Old Feng is making buttons and sealing rings in Dongguan. The two pallets of KE-551 mixed silicone rubber in the warehouse have been sitting on trays for almost half a year. A medical client changed the material certification, and the inventory of silicone rubber material suddenly increased by three to four tons. The surface of the bags was a bit hard, the edges of the rubber blocks had a layer of skin, and the warehouse manager checked the ledger to calculate that the material was classified as food contact grade, so the unit price was not cheap. Old Feng squatted at the workshop entrance to do the accounts: silicone rubber sits for too long and becomes structured hard. Once the structural effect comes, the mixing process can't be mixed, just like dough that has been stored for a long time and becomes elastic, unable to be pulled apart.

Obsolete material is not an asset, but a liability lying on the books.

Silicone rubber is something every boss deals with every day for buttons , seals, medical tubes, and baby products. It's resistant to high and low temperatures and physiologically inert, but it's naturally sensitive to structure. Over time, the cross-linking density gradually increases, making the compound harder and brittle. What's even more troublesome is that hardness ranges from 30 to 80 degrees, and the price difference between medical-grade and industrial grade is huge. Vendors don't even distinguish between the material and press it one by one. Silicone is structured like a paste that's been sitting for a long time—it still looks like the same glue, and no matter how you stir, you can't get that smoothness. You might think adding some softener is still usable, but actually the properties of vulcanization have already gone off track.

The essence of recycling isn't about selling waste, but about turning dead money into living money.

Let me tell a real story. A boss called in a wholesaler, who picked up a piece of silicone and broke it off, saying the compound was hard and structured, and charged at floor price. The wholesaler's calculations were even more sophisticated than your accountant's—he took it back and mixed it into low-grade sealing rings, added some oil if the hardness was off, and the rings cracked after two months, pocketing the price difference. Think about it, what he said was useless—not because he really had no customers, but because he had no medical or food-grade clients himself. Some dealers were even more ruthless, not even distinguishing hardness, mixing KE-551 and generic silicone into one bag.

Wholesalers aren't helping you deal with scrap; they're using your good materials to make up for their poor materials.

Cologne New Materials is taking the path of terminal digestion. We have long-term downstream customers who make buttons, seals, and cable miscellaneous parts. For high-circulation grades like KE-551 and ELASTOSIL R, we buy them that match the customer's formula and ship directly without inventory pressure. If the batch is slightly off, we can digest it into our own modified formula system, regardless of hardness or batch. Pricing is graded by Shaw hardness, tensile strength, and degree of structure, with one price per grade, clearly stated on the recall form. With our own production capacity and customers backing us, our quotes are stable and don't fluctuate wildly with market trends.

Good materials aren't afraid of not being picked up; the real worry is selling good materials as scrap.

On the day of the on-site evaluation, our technician brought a Shore hardness tester, kneaded it on site to check if the structure was hard, and recorded industrial and food grade separately. You were present and weighed it; the tall, gross weight, and net weight matched the numbers. We sampled the structured rubber blocks separately; those that could be loosened were counted as whole pieces, and those as hard as stone were negotiated separately.

A different approach is more cost-effective—exchange recycled materials for new materials. Five-step process: first report materials, take photos, announce brand number, net weight, and city; We conduct on-site graded assessments and quote on the spot after measurement; On-site weighing and receiving goods; Recovery funds are directly deducted from your purchase of new materials from Cologne; Final settlement and invoice issuance. A long-term customer who makes cable sealing rings had about 3 tons of silica gel stale material stored in the warehouse. By grading, they offset nearly half of the new material payment, saving about 20,000 yuan in cash flow. The newly acquired product was the full range of QUANICE elastomers, which were directly added to the production line for renewal.

To put it bluntly, scrap isn't something you can't accept; it depends on how you handle it.

As for specific grades, we regularly recycle Dow SILASTIC, DOWSIL, Sylgard; Wacker ELASTOSIL R, SILPURAN; Shin-Etsu KE-541, KE-551, KE-951; Momentive TSE series; Xin'an Chemical WRB2800, TYH171, XHG151, and other mainstream silicone rubber grades; Other manufacturers' grades are based on physical appraisal. Recyclable forms include stagnant mixed rubber material (whole trays or loose blocks), molded gate material, button scraps, sealing ring scraps, and inventory scrap. Structured rubber blocks should be sampled separately; don't mix them with new glue. Cured rubber blocks after vulcanization have large physical properties, so negotiate prices separately.

To be honest, silicone structure hardens gradually. If you hold it today, it's still soft, but after half a year, it's as hard as rubber bricks. While the compound can still be mixed, find someone with buttons and cable miscellaneous parts to pick it up, grade it to offset new material, which is better than wasting time in the warehouse.

Say a few words to avoid pitfalls. Is recycling just selling cheap? The truth is selling by hardness and grade; good materials can be sold at good prices. Waiting for prices to rise? The truth is, silicone only hardens and structures over time, and the longer it sits, the less valuable it becomes. Who bids the higher and sells to whom? The truth is, you bargain, weigh down, and delay payment when you get it—the price is even worse than the three brands
