Old Zhou was making automotive sealing strips in Yinzhou, Ningbo. The batch of Keltan EPDM raw material in the warehouse had been sleeping on the pallet for almost a year. The OEM changed the sealing strip formula as soon as it said, and twelve tons of material instantly became a baggage no one wanted. The bag mouth was already yellowed, forklift drivers complained it took up space, and warehouse manager Xiao Wu had to write an extra line of blank inventory in the ledger every time. Old Zhou knew very well that if this material kept being used, the viscosity of the Manney would deviate from the original level, like spoiled rice, never going back.

Obsolete material isn't an asset, it's a liability lying on the books.

EPDM this stuff, every boss who makes automotive sealing strips, hoses, and waterproof membranes knows it well. It's naturally sensitive to heat and humidity; in summer, without air conditioning, the surface clumps in half a month; When Mooney viscosity drifts, the glue strips produced by the mixed strips are all off-sized in size. What's even more frustrating is that EPDM grades are mixed, whether they are oil-filled, or whether ethylene content is high, the price difference can be two to three thousand per ton. You might think it's the same bag of material, but the dealer takes back one cent, the good ones are classified as Class A, and the worse are charged as the lowest grade.

Here's a true story: a boss stacked two bags of different grades of EPDM together on one pallet. The wholesaler immediately noticed the additives and sold the whole truck at floor price. EPDM mixed ingredients mixed with hot pot bases carry odors just like hotpot bases; if one ingredient gets dirty and you want to sell it separately, manual sorting costs more than the ingredients themselves. Sitting there waiting for market trends? Warehouse rent is just a few thousand a month, raw material billing deadlines are still being urged, and funds are being squeezed out like that.

The essence of recycling isn't selling scrap, it's turning dead money into working money.

To put it bluntly. Those wholesalers on the market drive their small trucks around and quote prices on the phone like a weather forecast—just check before you leave, don't take it seriously. At the warehouse entrance, they pick and pick, load good bags onto the truck, and the missing bag says it's blackened and worthless; When weighing, press the scale's skin, then at the factory add another cut and a bit of a deduction if the door is wrong. Think about it, the phone quotes 8,000, but getting 6,500 in hand is considered fair. Wholesalers calculate calculations even more sharply than your accountants—picking out good materials and charging them as defective products, returning inferior materials as shipping costs, and the difference between the two ends is all your profit.

Wholesalers aren't helping you deal with scrap; they're using your good materials to make up for their inferior ones.

Kelong New Materials is taking a different path. We have a batch of downstream customers making sealing strips, rubber hoses, and modified materials. Once we bring in popular grades and match the customer's formula, we just leave without holding back or stockpiling. If we encounter unpopular grades or batches with slight deviations, there's no need to worry. These materials can be digested into our own modified formula system, without picking brands or batches. Pricing isn't about a one-size-fits-all price but about grading properties like Mooney viscosity, ethylene content, and whether it's oil-filled, with each grade priced clearly on the recycling form. With our own production capacity and long-term customers backing us, the quotation doesn't fluctuate wildly with market trends. You won't call to buy one price today and then slash tomorrow.

Good material isn't afraid of no buyer; what's scary is selling good material as waste.

On the day of the appraisal, our technician brought a portable Mooney instrument and a color difference meter. After on-site testing, we produced a grading sheet on the spot: good ones as Class A, clustered ones as Class B, and bad ones as treatment fees—calculating every detail for you. It's not just about slapping your head on the phone to shout numbers—it's the instrument speaking. You watch the weighing, and the tare weight, gross weight, and net weight all match—there's no water mixing in the middle.

Even more worry-free is the recycled material exchange method. The process consists of five steps: first report the material, take a photo, and provide the grade, tonnage, and city; We conduct on-site graded assessment, test physical properties, and quote on the spot; Weigh and receive the goods on site; Payment for retrieval is not paid by cash card; it is directly deducted from your next purchase of new material from Cologne; Final settlement and invoice issuance with complete documentation. A long-term client of a waterproof membrane company had about 8 tons of EPDM obsolete material stored in the warehouse. According to grading assessment, nearly half of the new material payment was offset, saving about 30,000 yuan in cash flow. The new product brought back was the full range of QUANICE elastomers, which were directly added to the production line for renewal.

To put it bluntly, waste isn't something you can't accept; it depends on how you handle it.

Regarding grades, we regularly recycle mainstream grades such as Alan New Keltan 7752C, Keltan 13561C, Keltan 9565Q, Dow NORDEL 4640, NORDEL 2744, ExxonMobil Vistalon 6602, Vistalon 805, Vistalon 1703P, Jilin Petrochemical J-4045, J-3080, J-2070; Other grades such as JSR's EP series are subject to physical appraisal. Recyclable forms include stagnant raw material (whole pallets or loose packs), pre-mixing scraps, extrusion gate material, pre-vulcanization machine head material, scrap parts, and inventory tail material. Cured rubber blocks after vulcanization have significant physical properties; negotiate separately and do not mix them with new glue in one bag.

To be honest, some bosses are scared by bulk traders and shake their heads at the mention of recycling. Actually, it's not that recycling is unreliable; it's that you didn't find the right end-user for digestion. What we do is turn the material that sleeps in your warehouse into new material that can be used as a substitute when ordering. Only if you can calculate that will people play with you long-term.

Just a quick chat to avoid pitfalls. Is recycling just selling cheap? The truth is selling by grade and grade; good materials sell at good prices, while mixed materials get underpriced. Waiting for prices to rise? The truth is rubber only ages when left unused; even the most valuable grades lose value when Mooney drifts. Who offers the highest price and sells to whom? The truth is that you bargain, weigh down, and delay payments when you get the price, and the price is even worse than the three companies
