TPE副牌,日用品握把那点软弹手感,为什么盯这三家国外大厂?

TPE sub-brand is like the fabric in the same batch that feels half a degree softer—pull and bend, and its resilience and fold resistance are just like the genuine brand.

Ten handles, nine soft springs, all backed by it

Randomly grab ten daily necessity handles—toothbrush handles, peeler handles, power tool rubber-clad handles—nine feel soft and springy and don't slip, all backed by the same type: TPE. But the price difference per ton of this thing can go from 12,000 to 30,000.

Both called TPE, the feel is worlds apart—some harden and lose powder after half a year, others get more comfortable the more you hold them. Many buyers think TPE is just "soft plastic" and buy it casually. As a result, the rubber doesn't stick properly, feels sticky to the touch, gets oily in summer, cracks in winter. This article strips TPE underwear clean.

TPE is a big category: first distinguish TPR and TP

TPE U , thermoplastic elastomers, which are a big category, not a specific grade. At room temperature, they are soft and elastic like rubber, can be injection molded like plastic when heated, no vulcanization needed, and scraps can be recycled. Daily necessities like handles, soft-touch rubber coatings, sealing strips, toys, straw heads—all are made of this.

But TPE is divided into several types: styrene (SBC, SBS/SEBS), olefins (TPO/TPV), polyurethane (TPU), polyester (TPEE), and so on. For daily necessities grips, the main focus is styrene SBC—TPE/TPR made from SBS and SEBS as the backbone, blended with oil and polystyrene.

Let's clarify the term: TPR is often the common term for styrene TPE, which is the same as TPE; TPU is polyurethane elastomer, harder and more wear-resistant, not the same thing. Don't mix it up. Globally, there are only a handful of leading foreign companies making styrene TPE: Kraton (USA) is the originator of SBC; Taiwan's TSRC and LCY are the main players in Asia. Each company has different market shares in different SBS and SEBS sub-products; let's discuss them by tier.

Sub-brand Knowledge: Focus on hardness, oil-extraction, and adhesive bonding

TPE sub-brand—the logic remains unchanged. If the same manufacturer and same grade are aggregated and any hardness, viscosity, or appearance inspection doesn't fully meet the line, that's sub-brand. There are four sources: starting and stopping the tail scrap, switching grades transitional material, process fluctuation batches, and auxiliary line scrap material.

It's still original raw material, with molecular chains consistent with the genuine brand, just a slight flutter. It's not the same as recycled TPE—recycled material loses oil content, molecular weight drops, feels hard, and easily sheds powder. Boundary table remains as before:

TypeSourceQualityTypical Use
Genuine BrandOriginal Factory Standard BatchFull Indicator Compliant, Batch StableHigh Requirements, Certified Parts
SubbrandOriginal factory substandard batchslight deviations in certain indicators, substrate consistent with genuine brandGeneral parts, color-matched parts, internal parts
Reused/sprue materialProcessed scraps repelled and granulatedAlready experienced once heat historyLow requirements products
Regenerated materialRecycled plastic pelletizingHigh performance fluctuationLow-end products, filling

TPE sub-brand—focus on three things: Shore hardness, oil release, and overmolding adhesion. These three factors determine whether the hand feel is soft, whether it releases oil, and whether it can stick to hard plastics.

Kraton: The pioneer of the SBC category .

The first company, Kraton (USA). Kraton is the pioneer of the SBC category. Kraton G series is SEBS, Kraton A series is SBS, and manufacturers specializing in high-end soft touch, medical, and automotive industries recognize it.

Their strengths are clean molecular weight distribution, aging resistance, and delicate feel. When sub-brand materials arrive, hardness or fluidity usually fluctuates slightly, but the elastomer frame is original. For high-end daily necessities grips and parts requiring aging resistance, Keten's secondary brand is worry-free.

TSRC: The main volume seller in Asia

The second company, Taiwan Rubber Corporation (TSRC). TSRC is a major SBS/SEBS manufacturer in Asia, with large capacity and a full range of grades, widely used by factories producing daily necessities, footwear materials, and modified asphalt.

Its advantages are cost-effectiveness, stable supply, and short lead times. Its sub-brand material is suitable for high-volume daily necessities grips and ordinary rubber-coated parts. When choosing its sub-brand, focus on hardness and oil production.

Li Changrong LCY: Adhesive bonding is well done

Third company, Li Changrong (LCY) from Taiwan, China. Li Changrong is also a main SBC manufacturer, with a full range of SBS/SEBS grades, widely used in handles, sealing, and modification.

Its features are batch stability and good adhesive bonding. The secondary grade material is suitable for soft and hard co-extruded parts that require strong bonding. Choose this secondary brand and see if it sticks well with your hard plastic substrate.

Avoid pitfalls: Don't use TPE to pass off as TPU, and don't overlook oily

TPE how to choose a secondary brand? First, distinguish which type you want. Use styrene-based SBC for handle rubber; TPU for more wear-resistant; Use something else if you want oil resistance. Choosing the wrong family is a waste.

Second, focus on Shaw hardness. If the softness is wrong, the handle feels off. Third, check for oiliness. Cheap TPE contains a lot of oil; in summer, the handle sticks to your hand and surface shows ink marks after prolonged storage. For secondary brands, test for oil release after aging.

Fourth, test the adhesive bonding. TPE soft rubber adheres hard plastics; if it can't stick properly, delamination occurs. Fifth, identify the manufacturer. Keteng, Taixiang, and Li Changrong are sub-brands made from original factory materials. Sixth, ask about packaging for large and small packages. Large packages are mass-produced for mass production, small packages are sampled and color-adjusted.

Selection formula + a case from Jinan kitchenware handle factory

Mnemonic:

1. Soft touch of daily necessities handles—styrene-based TPE (SBC);

2. More wear-resistant—TPU, don't use TPE hard tops;

3. High-end aging resistance—Keteng Kraton;

4. Volume and cost-effectiveness—TSRC;

5. Overmolding bonding—Li Changrong LCY;

6. On-site hardness testing, oil detection, and overmolding tests;

7. For mass production, choose large packaging; for samples, choose small packaging.

Jinan, a customer making daily kitchenware handles, previously used low-priced TPE overmolding. In summer, the handle became sticky to your hand and surface showed ink marks after two months of heat, resulting in a 7% return rate for customer complaints. Later, I switched to the same sub-brand of Taiwan Rubber Plastics. Hardness and oil production were tested before being signed upon delivery. After gluing and bonding, the sticky and oily issues basically disappeared, the return rate dropped to 0.6%, and the yield rate returned to 95%.

A ton of material costs a few hundred yuan more, and just complaints from customers are reduced by more than half. This is the value of choosing the right type — the feel of the handle is something the customer can tell immediately. Ningbo Kelon New Materials Co., Ltd. has been making secondary brands of imported major manufacturers for years, handling many cases in daily necessities and soft-touch products. To put it simply, they help you figure out whether something is sticky or doesn't stick before mass production.
