轮胎圈有条心照不宣的鄙视链:做斜交胎的看不起做半钢胎的,做半钢胎的又看不起做摩托车胎的。可你往上看,做绿色高性能轮胎胎面的那拨人,谁都不敢随便——因为他们用的料,是SSBR。
SSBR,溶液聚合丁苯橡胶,跟白炭黑搭档,是低滚阻、高抓地绿色轮胎的黄金胶。谁在胎面上用错一档料,整车的油耗和刹车成绩就跟着飘。这东西看着跟普通SBR差不了几个字母,身价和门槛却高一大截。
定制西装跟成衣的差别
SSBR用溶液聚合法做,分子链结构可控,能定制作业化的乙烯基含量和苯乙烯分布。它跟E-SBR的差别,就像定制西装跟成衣:同是布,剪裁精度完全两回事。

SSBR为什么跟绿色轮胎绑得这么死?传统E-SBR胎面配炭黑,抓地和滚阻很难两头兼顾;SSBR配白炭黑,分子链能在硅石表面更好地分散,把滚动阻力压下来、湿地抓地提上去,这就是低滚阻、高抓地的来源。电动车要续航、要静音,胎面这一项的权重一年比一年高。
副牌是化验表那一格没踩线
SSBR副牌怎么理解?它跟SBR副牌同源:原厂溶液聚合线上下来,门尼粘度或苯乙烯含量在出厂检验时小幅越线的那一档。SSBR因为用在胎面这种高要求位置,正牌指标卡得严,副牌的越线区间也更小。
同牌号SSBR副牌,门尼偏差常在±5个点以内、结合苯乙烯含量波动不超两个百分点,分子链和正牌是同一条锂系阴离子聚合线上下来的。说白了,副牌不是换了配方,是化验单上那一格指标没踩到正牌线。
边界照旧:副牌是原厂原生胶粒;回料是炼胶边角料再造粒;再生料是废胎磨粉回来的。SSBR这种料,副牌用在内衬、垫带、一般结构胶件很划算,别往要求高抓地的胎面上怼。
还要提醒一句:SSBR副牌的牌号尾号往往藏着油含量和偶联方式的差别,光看“Buna”或“Nipol”这个商标下单是不够的,具体尾号、有没有充油、是不是偶联结构,都要对着化验单一条条确认。
阿朗新科Buna:欧洲轮胎厂的老搭档
阿朗新科总部在荷兰海牙,2018年起是沙特阿美的全资子公司。它家Buna VSL系列是SSBR的老牌产品,跟欧洲几大轮胎厂绑定深。阿朗新科副牌的特点是配方文档规范、批次一致性好,门尼漂移有迹可循。做半钢胎胎体、做输送带的厂,拿它顶正牌比较稳。
JSR:功能化平台盯紧敏感项
日本JSR是SSBR技术的先行者之一,功能化SSBR平台专门冲着低滚阻和电动车胎去。JSR副牌多出自牌号切换过渡,特点是微观结构准、杂质低。要注意JSR副牌的含油量和偶联度是敏感项,做要求高的胎面料前,这两项必须要化验单。
瑞翁Nipol:色相干净的小批量稳料
日本瑞翁Nipol SSBR在新加坡量产,主打低燃耗轮胎。它家副牌色相和凝胶控制得好,做浅色胶料和密封件不发雾。瑞翁副牌量不算大,但批次稳,适合小批量高要求的胶厂盯着用。
三个坑,都跟配方有关
SSBR副牌三个坑。头一个,是把E-SBR副牌当SSBR副牌买。两个字母差一个,滚阻和抓地差一截,胎面用E-SBR副牌是要出安全问题的。
再一个,是不看偶联度和支化度。这俩决定加工性,副牌这两项飘了,炼胶就粘辊。还有一个,是不做白炭黑配方验证。SSBR跟白炭黑的配伍是灵魂,副牌进来必须重新跑一遍分散性试验。

There's an unspoken hierarchy in the tire world: those who make bias tires look down on those who make semi-steel tires, and those who make semi-steel tires look down on those who make motorcycle tires. But if you look up, the group making green high-performance tire treads doesn't dare to be careless—because they use SSBR material.
SSBR, solution-polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber, paired with silica, is the golden rubber for low rolling resistance and high-grip green tires. If someone uses the wrong grade on the tread, the vehicle's fuel consumption and braking performance will be affected. This stuff looks no different from ordinary SBR by just a few letters, but its value and entry threshold are much higher.
The difference between custom suits and ready-to-wear suits
SSBR is made by solution polymerization, with controllable molecular chain structure, allowing for customized vinyl content and styrene distribution for industrial production. Its difference from E-SBR is like that between a custom-made suit and ready-to-wear clothes: both are made of cloth, but the precision of the cut is completely different.
The major foreign manufacturers producing SSBR globally, ranked by market share, are: Arlanxeo (Buna VSL/SE series, fully owned by Saudi Aramco) with about 22% share, ranking first; Japan's JSR with about 15%, specializing in functionalized SSBR; Japan's Nippon (Nipol) produces low rolling resistance materials at its Singapore base. Why is SSBR so closely tied to green tires? Traditional E-SBR tire treads paired with carbon black make it hard to balance grip and rolling resistance; SSBR paired with silica allows the molecular chains to disperse better on the surface of the silica, reducing rolling resistance and improving wet grip. This is the source of low rolling resistance and high grip. Electric vehicles require range and quietness, so the importance of the tread has been increasing year by year.
The secondary card is the one in the test chart where the line wasn't crossed.
How should we understand SSBR secondary grades? They share the same origin as SBR secondary grades: coming off the original solution polymerization line, the Mooney viscosity or styrene content slightly exceeds the standard during factory inspection. Because SSBR is used in high-demand areas like tire treads, the main grade specifications are strictly controlled, and the range of deviation for secondary grades is even smaller.
For secondary brands of the same grade SSBR, the Mooney deviation is often within ±5 points, and the styrene content fluctuates by no more than two percentage points. The molecular chain and the genuine brand come down from the same lithium-based anion polymerization line. Simply put, the secondary brand isn't just a new formula; it's that one bar on the test report doesn't cross the genuine line.
Border remains the same: the secondary brand uses original factory raw rubber pellets; reprocessed material is made by granulating rubber scraps; recycled material comes from grinding waste tires. For SSBR material, using secondary brand for inner linings, belt padding, and general structural rubber parts is very cost-effective; don't use it on treads that require high grip.
One more thing to remind: the last digits of the SSBR sub-brand numbers often hide differences in oil content and coupling methods. Simply placing an order based on the trademark 'Buna' or 'Nipol' is not enough; the specific last digits, whether it has oil added, and whether it is a coupled structure all need to be checked one by one against the test report.
Alang Xinke Buna: The Old Partner of European Tire Manufacturers
Arlan Xinke's headquarters is in The Hague, Netherlands, and since 2018 it has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Saudi Aramco. Its Buna VSL series is a long-established SSBR product and has strong ties with several major European tire manufacturers. The characteristic of Arlan Xinke's sub-brand is that the formulation documentation is standardized, batch consistency is good, and Mooney index variations are traceable. For factories producing semi-steel tire carcasses or conveyor belts, using it as a top-grade substitute is relatively reliable.
JSR: Functionalized Platform Focusing on Sensitive Items
Japan's JSR is one of the pioneers of SSBR technology. The functionalized SSBR platform is specifically aimed at low rolling resistance and electric vehicle tires. JSR's secondary brands mostly come from grade transition, characterized by precise microstructure and low impurities. It is important to note that the oil content and coupling degree of JSR's secondary brands are sensitive factors. Before making high-demand tread materials, these two items must be verified through test reports.
Ruiweng Nipol: small-batch stable material with clean color shade
Japan's Nipol SSBR is mass-produced in Singapore, focusing on low fuel consumption tires. Its sub-brand has good color and gel control, so light-colored rubber and seals do not fog. The output of Nipol's sub-brand is not very large, but the batches are stable, making it suitable for small-batch, high-demand rubber factories to monitor and use.
All three pitfalls are related to the formula.
Three pitfalls of SSBR sub-brands. The first one is buying an E-SBR sub-brand as if it were an SSBR sub-brand. Just a difference of two letters, but the rolling resistance and grip are quite different. Using an E-SBR sub-brand for the tire surface can lead to safety issues.
Another point is not considering the coupling degree and branching degree. These two determine processability, and for secondary brands, these two often fluctuate, causing the rubber to stick to the rollers during mixing. Another point is not doing white carbon black formula verification. The compatibility between SSBR and white carbon black is crucial, and whenever a secondary brand is used, the dispersion test must be redone.

Remember five points, then start refining again
1. First distinguish between E-SBR and SSBR, and don't use the wrong tread.
2. The three test reports for Mooney, styrene content, and oil content must all be complete.
3. If the coupling degree fluctuates, don't start the machine; sticky rollers are a minor issue, performance is the major concern.
4. After adding the white carbon black, recompute the dispersibility.
5. Don't skimp on the main brand for the tire surface; consider secondary brands for the lining and structural parts.
