Lao Gao makes car dust covers in Ningbo, and the two trays of Hytrel 5556 TPEE in the warehouse have been sitting on trays for almost half a year. An OEM changed their material plan and replaced the dust cover with TPV, so the TPEE pellets in inventory suddenly increased by three to four tons. The bag surface was a bit damp, the pellets were yellowish, and the warehouse staff checked the ledger and found the unit price wasn't cheap—one ton was worth two tons of ordinary elastomer. Lao Gao squatted at the workshop entrance and calculated: after TPEE absorbed moisture, it bubbled up when squeezed out, like boiling water overflowing into a pot, and the dust cover surface was covered in silver patterns.

Obsolete material isn't an asset, it's a liability lying on the books.

TPEE this stuff, only bosses who make car dust covers, bellows, and phone antennas know how to handle it. It's a polyester thermoplastic elastomer with good resilience, oil resistance, and fatigue resistance, but it's naturally sensitive to moisture. Once the packaging breaks, the pellet surface absorbs water, and during injection molding, heating it causes bubbles to break down. What's even more troublesome is that Shore hardness ranges from 30D to 82D, with price differences reaching four to five thousand per ton; Different hardness corresponds to different parts, and sellers don't distinguish between them—one ton is treated as one ton. TPEE absorbs moisture like soaking a sponge in water—no matter how much you squeeze, it can't get rid of that moisture quality. You might think drying it will still work, but actually the molecular weight has quietly dropped by a bit.

The essence of recycling isn't selling scrap, but turning dead money into living money.

Let me tell a true story. A boss called in a wholesaler, who picked up a TPEE tablet and said it was yellowed and over-baked, so he charged at floor price. The wholesaler's calculations were even more sophisticated than your accountant's—he took it back and mixed it into low-grade bellows to make up the numbers, added some plasticizer when elasticity was insufficient, and the finished parts cracked after a year, pocketing all the difference. Honestly, what he said was hard to sell—not because he had no customers, but because he didn't have auto parts himself. Some dealers were even worse, not even testing hardness, mixing Hytrel 3078 and 5556 into a truckload.

Wholesalers aren't helping you deal with scrap; they're using your best materials to make up for their poor parts.

Cologne New Materials is taking the path of terminal digestion. We have long-term downstream customers for automotive dust covers, bellows, and antennas. For high-circulation grades like Hytrel 5556 and Arnitel EM400, we buy them that match the customer's formula and sell directly without inventory pressure. If the batch is slightly off, we can digest it into our own modified formula system, regardless of hardness or batch. Pricing is based on Shore hardness, tensile strength, moisture resistance, grading, one price per grade, clearly stated on the recycling form. With our own production capacity and customers backing us, our quotes are stable and don't fluctuate wildly with market trends.

Good materials aren't afraid of not being picked up; what's scary is selling good materials as scrap.

On the day of the on-site evaluation, our technician brought a Shore D hardness tester and a rapid moisture analyzer to measure hardness and check for moisture on site. For polyester polyether, we first matched the model first. You were present and weighed to ensure the gross weight and net weight matched. We sampled and dried the moisture-affected particles separately and then re-evaluated them, avoiding overestimating the moisture price and your price.

A different approach is more cost-effective—replacing recycled materials with new materials. Five-step process: first report materials, take photos, indicate brand number, tonnage, and city; We conduct on-site graded assessments and quote on the spot after testing; On-site weighing and receiving goods; Collected funds are directly deducted from your purchase of new material from Cologne; Final settlement and invoice issuance. A long-term client of a corrugated pipe company had about 4 tons of TPEE obsolete material stored in the warehouse, which was offset by grading for nearly half of the new material payments, saving about 20,000 yuan in cash flow. The newly brought back was the full range of QUANICE elastomers, which were directly added to the production line for renewal.

To put it simply, scrap isn't something you can't accept; it depends on how you handle it.

As for specific grades, we regularly recycle mainstream TPEE grades such as DuPont (Celanis) Hytrel 3078, Hytrel 4068, Hytrel 5556, Envalior Arnitel EM400, Arnitel EB463, Arnitel EL250; Other manufacturers like Toyobo Pelpree, SK SKYPEM, LG Keyflex, etc., have grades based on physical appraisal. Recyclable forms include stagnant original pack material (whole pallets or loose packs), extruded gate feed, corrugated pipe sprue material, pelletizer head material, scrap parts, and inventory scrap. Damp pellets should be sampled and dried separately; don't mix them with new pellets in the same bag.

To be honest, TPEE moisture absorption is normal, but some bosses just leave it and can't dry it back when they really need it. Before the pellets undergo deep hydrolysis, find someone with an automotive parts terminal to pick them up, then after grading and evaluation, offset new material for new material. Cash flow is better than anything else.

Say a few words to avoid pitfalls. Is recycling just selling cheap? The truth is, you sell by hardness and grade—good materials can sell at good prices. Waiting for the price to rise? The truth is, TPEE only absorbs moisture and degrades when shelved, and the longer it is stored, the less valuable it becomes. Who bids the highest price? The truth is, when you get it, you bargain, weigh it, and delay payment—the price is even worse than the other three
