Lao He's factory is in Ningbo, making LED reflectors and high-temperature resistant connectors. Last year, a lighting project changed its plan. He stored over two tons of Thermx and Eastman PCT in the warehouse, stored in the drying silo with brand-new labels. PCT is a niche material, heat-resistant, and a master at making LED reflectors. The unit price isn't low, and after half a year, it takes tens of thousands of yuan. Finance keeps urging for price drops, but he's been dragging it out. He asked around with those who collect materials, but hardly anyone has heard of PCT. All the bids are randomly made of ordinary polyester, and the more he hears, the more he feels this material has been wasted.
Materials so niche that even the dealers have never heard of them is the real test for the next buyer. What is
PCT? Polyterephthalate cyclohexane dimethanol ester is more heat-resistant than PBT, making LED reflectors and high-temperature connectors a real hit. But it's very niche, like a corner of a wet market—main dishes like PBT and PET are in high demand, PCT is unknown, but it can still be used as a side dish. This material has a narrow niche, with only a few downstream suppliers for LED reflectors and high-temperature connectors, and the unit price is high. Ordinary recyclers can't find a buyer. Cold materials can't find a buyer, and they just depreciate—Old He ran into it all. The more he asked, the more disheartened he felt—good material was about to be sold off cheaply as ordinary polyester. It's not that no one wants it, but too few people understand it. He wanted to clear it quickly but was afraid of being underpriced as ordinary polyester. After hesitating for a while, he couldn't make up his mind.
The value of niche materials isn't that no one wants them, but who recognizes them.
If you call a scrap collector, they'll probably treat PCT for PBT or PET, say "polyester is the same price," and call your high-temperature reflector-grade material ordinary polyester. Half-Buddha replies: It's not that they don't know the quality, it's that this material is beyond their understanding, so they can only test you at the bottom price. Weighing it, saying your material will be discounted after sitting too long, quoting a price to hook you before bargaining—this way, your good material is treated as a processing price. To put it bluntly, the problem with niche materials is that they "know nothing but dare to buy anything" dealers, who buy them and then dump them on you, blaming you for poor materials, and you have no way to argue.
For materials outside our understanding, traders will only test you at the base price.
Why would Cologne dare to accept this material? Because downstream of PCT, we have LED and connector customers who directly source and divert the supply without inventory pressure. Niche batches and downgraded materials are processed by our own modified formulas. We price each item by grade, fiberglass content, and flame retardant rating, with clear and solid pricing. With our own production capacity plus customer backing, we don't change our bids at the last minute during market fluctuations. To put it simply, what we earn isn't the price difference from resale, but the money from "recognizing this niche material and delivering it to the target customer."
Only when you recognize this material and have a buyer can we sell it at a higher price.
Cold door material is not about cutting losses; it's about redeeming the capital that has been crushed.
Grade points out: Eastman Thermx PCT CG933, Eastman PCT 36294, Eastman PCT 36296 are all within the regular recycling range; Other PCT grades like Toray and Evonik are subject to physical appraisal. Recyclable forms include obsolete original packaging, sprue gate materials, fiberglass scraps, defective reflector/connector parts, and inventory scraps; if damaged or damp, we still accept them. We evaluate fiber-reinforced and pure resin separately, not mixing and pressing.
Avoid three pitfalls. First, "polyester is all at the same price"—the truth is that PCT, as a high-temperature resistant material, is priced quite differently from ordinary PBT and PET. 2. "Niche materials don't sell at high prices"—the truth is, if you find the right supplier, niche materials are still valuable. 3. "Leave it and wait for the project to restart"—the truth is, leaving it unattended will only depreciate, and resumption is still a long way off. Niche materials can't be delayed. The sooner you ask, the sooner you know the market, the harder it will be. The sooner you release, the sooner you release, the better you get to relax. If you ask early, you'll be more secure
