Old Zhou opened a blow molding factory in Beilun, Ningbo, specializing in bottles for daily chemical factories. Last month, the client changed the formula at the last minute, cutting from HDPE to PP. The two whole trays of 5000S wire drawing material and six bags of HD5502 blown plastic in the warehouse slept on the pallet for over two months. The forklift driver walked around the way; the bag mouth was a bit pale from workshop rain leaks, and the money on the ledger still had "inventory" on it—in other words, it was dead money lying on the books.
If an order is canceled, it can be retaken; if a customer replaces materials, they can negotiate again, but the pile of material in your warehouse won't just grow out of its own legs.
Obsolete material isn't an asset, it's a liability lying on the books.
HDPE is dense, stacked to weigh down, and a single load of material can weigh over a thousand kilograms. Warehouse rent is calculated by square meter, capital tied monthly. What's more troublesome is that it absorbs moisture. If the material near the blow molding workshop sits for too long, the surface turns black, just like steamed buns left overnight—it's not spoiled, it's the material that quietly falls down, and the bottles that come out tend to be rough or prone to flashing. If you don't know grading, mix 5000S brushed material with HD5502 blown plastic in one bag. The seller will glance and give you the standard price, and the good material will be sold at a junk price. Over time, the label gets worn down, the batch number becomes unreadable, and even you don't even know what's in the bag.
Plastic won't appreciate in value; it will only slowly drop in value.
Let me tell you a true story: Old Zhou once hired a scrap goods dealer. He drove a small truck over, circled the warehouse three times, and immediately said, "Your material is wet, yellowed, or mixed. I'll calculate the consolidated price for you." Old Zhou was straightforward and wanted to clear out quickly, so he agreed. But after weighing, the other party started picking bags again—one bag was dirty, another had a smudged label, and they cut another 200 per ton. Old Zhou felt uncomfortable, but the goods were already loaded, so what could he do?
The wholesaler calculates even more cleverly than your accountant—picking out good materials and charging them by defective quality, returning inferior materials by shipping fees. Think about it, what they earn isn't from scrap, but from money you don't know about the trade.
The vendor's quotation sheet is like a weather forecast—just glance at it before you leave, don't take it seriously.
Colon New Materials follows a terminal digestion approach for HDPE recycling, not reselling to make a profit. Popular grades like 5000S brushed, HD5502 insulating, TR144 film are used by downstream modification and blow molding factories. After grading, they are taken out directly without inventory pressure. For niche batches or slightly damp materials, we don't pick them out—they go into Cologne's own modified granulation formula and digest them, just like mixing Chinese medicine: if one ingredient is a bit lacking, just add another flavor.
Pricing isn't one-size-fits-all. Graded by melt index, density, and appearance, good physical properties offer good prices, slightly degraded ones are treated as modified materials, and the price difference between each tier is displayed on the table, so you can see it clearly. Plus, with our own production capacity and long-term customers as a backup, our quotes don't fluctuate wildly with the market; they won't change prices today and tomorrow. When prices go up, they chase you for goods; when prices drop, we ignore calls. Here, we still pay whatever we want.
Good materials aren't afraid of no buyers; what's worrisome is selling good materials as waste.
The five-step cooperation process: material submission, graded evaluation, on-site pickup, deduction of payment, settlement and invoice. Old Zhou's batch of materials was sold like this—he took a few photos and sent them with grades and roughly eight tons. After we appraised and quoted a price, we arranged a time for on-site weighing. After the goods were brought back, the recycling payments were directly used to offset his purchase of KONICE modified plastics for the following month, nearly half of the total. It means the warehouse is cleared, the cash is back, and new materials have arrived at the factory. After completing the process, he told me, "If I'd known this would be like this, I should have handled it two years ago."
The essence of recycling isn't about selling waste, but turning dead money into living money.
Currently, the recyclable HDPE grades include Sinopec 5000S, HD5502, TR144; PetroChina 5000S, DMDA-6200, 2200J; ExxonMobil HTA-108, HMA-016, etc.; Other grades like Philips Marlex series and SABIC are based on physical appraisal. Formally, they collect: obsolete original packaging (whole or loose packages are fine), blow-molded sprue material, pipe and sheet scraps, machine head material, scrap bottles and barrels, and inventory scraps. As long as the labels are clear, mixed packages can be priced by grade.
Three common misconceptions, a reminder for you—
"Is recycling just selling cheaply?" "The truth is selling by grade and grade; good materials can sell at good prices, while mixed materials get underpriced."
"Waiting for price increases?" "The truth is HDPE will only drop in price slowly when left unused, and after absorbing moisture and becoming unstable, it loses even more value."
"Who bids the highest price and sells to whom?" "The truth is, when you get the price, underestimate the scale, or delay payment, comparing prices with the three companies actually results in losses."
