EMA这料,是乙烯丙烯酸甲酯共聚物,做相容剂、涂层、流延膜的,柔软、粘接性好。可它加工温度不高,边角料放久了吸潮、氧化,柔软度和粘接性就掉。
老宋的仓管把那两托料往里间挪,台账上写着"待处理"。车间那头,每天切下来的EMA水口料、涂层边角料堆在角落,和EVA、EEA混在一起。
EMA的痛点在于:它和EVA、EEA长得像,相容溢价高,一混就掉价。
呆滞料不是资产,是趴在账上的负债。
EMA说白了就是改性聚乙烯,里面加了丙烯酸甲酯,专做相容剂、涂层、流延膜、软质制品的。正因为是低熔点柔软聚烯烃,单价不低,一压库占的钱就多。
EMA放久了柔软度下降,跟塑料雨衣放久了发硬一样——看着还是那件雨衣,穿上去已经不贴身了。原包料开袋吸潮氧化,回炉做涂层,剥离强度不够,客户直接退。
车间里更现实的是混料。EMA和EVA、EEA水口料长得像,工人图省事往一个袋里倒。一混,EMA的相容溢价就打了水漂,只能按普通聚烯烃卖。
柔软相容料的贵,贵在"软"和"粘"两个字上,混掉了就一文不值。
老宋找过收料的。贩子抓起料粒一看,说"这不就是EVA嘛,按EVA价"。老宋当场摇头——他这是EMA,做涂层相容的,跟EVA差着价呢。可贩子不听,他不认EMA。
说白了,统货商对这种"长得像EVA"的料,本能就是往EVA上靠。他不是不知道有EMA,是认EMA没好处——认了就得给你好价,不认就能压你。
有些贩子的认知,停留在"塑料就分透明和不透明"这一层,你跟他谈相容,他跟你谈统货。

Old Song works in Yuyao, Ningbo making compatibilizers and casting coatings, and extruders in the workshop come and go in EMA year-round. Last month, a coating project changed its adhesive system. The warehouse had two original EMA trays, Exxon Optema, which suddenly became unusable.
EMA this material is methyl ethylene acrylate copolymer, used for compatibilizers, coatings, and casting films, and is soft and has good adhesion. But its processing temperature is low, so the scraps absorb moisture and oxidize for a long time, losing softness and adhesion.
Old Song's warehouse manager moved those two supports inward, with the ledger marked "pending processing." At the end of the workshop, daily cut EMA sprue material and coating scraps were piled up in the corners, mixed with EVA and EEA. The pain point of
EMA is: it looks similar to EVA and EEA, has a high compatibility premium, and once mixed in, its value drops.
Obsolete material isn't an asset, it's a liability lying on the books.
EMA plainly, it's modified polyethylene with methyl acrylate added, specializing in compatibilizers, coatings, casting films, and soft products. Because it's low-melting-point, soft polyolefin, the unit price isn't low, and once you put it down, it takes up more money.
EMA after sitting for a while, its softness drops, just like a plastic raincoat that hardens after prolonged storage—it still looks like the same raincoat, but once worn, it doesn't fit well. The original material absorbs moisture and oxidizes when opened, then recycles for coating, and if the peeling strength isn't strong enough, the customer returns it directly.
The more realistic thing in the workshop is mixing materials. EMA looks similar to EVA and EEA sprue materials, so workers pour them into one bag for convenience. Once mixed, EMA's compatibility premium is wasted, and it can only be sold as regular polyolefins.
The price of soft compatibility materials lies in the words "soft" and "sticky"; once mixed together, they become worthless.
Old Song once contacted the material collectors. The dealer picked up the material and said, "Isn't this EVA? At EVA price." Old Song shook his head on the spot—this is EMA, coated compatible, and the price difference is higher than EVA. But the dealer wouldn't listen; he didn't recognize EMA.
To put it bluntly, wholesalers instinctively lean toward EVA for materials that "look like EVA." It's not that they don't know about EMA; they just accept EMA as unprofitable—if they accept it, they have to offer you a good price; if they don't, they can squeeze you.
Some traders think "plastic is divided into transparent and opaque"; you talk to them about compatibility, they negotiate wholesale goods with you.
Cologne New Materials does EMA recycling and clearly distinguishes between soft and compatible materials. EMA coatings and cast film materials are long sought by downstream modification and film factories. Exxon's main brands like Optema TC121, TC221, TC114 have targeted customers and can buy them in and sell.
If you encounter discoloration, reduced softness, or mixed with EVA/EEA, don't worry—go into Cologne's own modified formula for grading and digestion, without picking brands or batches. EMA belongs to EMA, EVA and EEA to each classification, graded separately.

Cooperative follows the five-step "recycled material for new material": material submission → grading evaluation→ on-site pickup→ deduction of payment→ settlement and invoice. Recycling payments are directly applied to the new material payment for Cologne, and the EMA direction corresponds to the KONICE modified plastic series.
Tell a true story. Last year, a factory in Ningbo that made cast coatings had about 4 tons of raw EMA mixed with a bunch of EVA sprue material, and the adhesive system was changed so it was no longer needed. On our trip, they first picked out the EMA mixed in EVA and graded it; those with sufficient softness went through coating modification, and the recycled amount was directly deducted from the next batch of KONICE payments, about half of the cost. The line of mixing bags in the workshop was cleared out, and the warehouse space was returned.
Good material isn't afraid of not being picked up; the fear is selling good material as waste.
EMA grades we are familiar with: ExxonMobil Optema TC121, TC221, TC114, etc., mainstream soft and compatible grades are accepted year-round; other grades are subject to physical appraisal.
Recyclable forms: obsolete original packaging, sprue gate material, coating scraps, cast film trimmings, defective scrap parts, inventory scraps. Special reminder — EMA sprue material must be bagging with EVA and EEA; mixing with them means the compatibility premium disappears.
- "Isn't EMA just EVA?" The truth is EMA follows the methyl acrylate soft main chain, with a high coating premium, so mixing and selling at a low price means selling cheaply.
- "Waiting for the project to restart?" The truth is, the softer the material gets, and the peeling strength of the coating can't hold up first.
- "Who bids the highest price and sells to whom?" The truth is, EMA is treated like EVA and collected; what you get is the EVA price.
