高温下还要扛强度、要耐磨低噪——选PA46,别用PA66硬顶;
认证件、高光外观件——正牌,别省;
一般齿轮、衬套、内结构件——可看副牌,先台架后量产;
模具温度和冷却节奏按PA46重新调,别套用PA66;
热老化强度保留率先测,别只看新料熔指;
齿轮轴承件补做噪声、磨损台架;

Many people think that PA46 and PA66 are the same, that they are both nylon. The truth is — although both are called 'polyamide 46/66,' their temperaments are far from similar. PA46 has a much higher density of amide groups than PA66, its crystallinity can reach 70%, and its crystallization speed is so fast that the mold has to chase after it.
Even more counterintuitive is that while this industry sounds like it should have several big companies competing, in reality, in the pure resin sector, almost everything is decided by one company. If you go to the market looking for 'PA46 alternative brands' and take a look around, nine times out of ten you'll find yourself coming back to the same name. This isn’t exclusion within the procurement circle; it’s that the technical threshold really keeps others out.
Factories that make gears, bearings, and high-temperature bushings have a love-hate relationship with PA46: they love that it can still maintain strength, resist wear, and self-lubricate at high temperatures; they hate that the genuine brand is painfully expensive, and they worry about noise and wear issues when looking for alternatives. This secondary brand business has grown out of this push and pull of being indispensable yet resented for its cost.
How PA46 has made being 'still hard at high temperatures' part of its very essence
PA46 is called polyamide 46, and its monomers are butanediamine and adipic acid. The molecular chain is highly symmetrical, the amide groups are densely arranged, crystallinity is high, the melting point is about 290°C, and its long-term service temperature is higher than PA66. Its best feature is that even when the temperature reaches 150–160°C, its rigidity and strength decrease very little. Coupled with wear resistance and low noise, it is simply the ideal material for gears and bearings.
But describing the structure of this category as a 'single dominant player' is actually conservative. The global mass production of PA46 pure resin has long been controlled by Envalior, a company originating from the Netherlands—it was formed in 2023 through the merger of DSM Engineering Materials and LANXESS High Performance Materials, and its product grade is Stanyl®. According to multiple third-party sources, Stanyl accounts for roughly 85% of global PA46 production capacity and possesses industrial-scale production technology for upstream hexamethylenediamine; anyone else trying to enter would be blocked at this single monomer stage. The second-tier companies capable of producing PA46 grades are very few, mainly BASF, Asahi Kasei, etc., offering only limited grades. This is a typical oligopolistic category, so the following will not force a 'tripartite structure,' but rather reflect the real tiering.
Sub-card General Knowledge: It is the batch from the original factory that didn't fall below the standard.
Before discussing PA46 secondary cards, first calibrate the term 'secondary cards'.
The secondary batch is neither defective nor recycled material. It is a batch from the same manufacturer and the same grade, where individual indicators did not fully meet the standards during factory inspection. The polymer goes through the same production line, with a molecular structure identical to the main brand. It might have slightly different melt flow index, half a shade difference in color, or a bit more ash content, but it is still original factory resin and has not undergone secondary thermal processing.
There are only four sources: inconsistent materials at the beginning and end of parking, transition materials during grade switching, batches with slight fluctuations in individual indicators, and leftover materials from secondary lines. For the same grade, secondary grades are divided into selected secondary and ordinary secondary, and the price is usually lower than the main grade.
| Type | Source | Quality | Typical uses |
|---|
| Authentic | Original factory standard batch | All indicators meet standards, batch stable | High-requirement parts, certified parts |
| Side dish | Factory batch not fully up to standard | Individual indicators slightly deviate, but the base material is consistent with the genuine brand | Inner components, general structural parts |
| Recycled material / Sprue material | Processing scrap material into regranulate | Has undergone one heat history | Low-demand products |
| Recycled material | Recycled Plastic Pelletizing | Performance fluctuates greatly | Low-end products, fillers |
Enhua Li Stanyl: PA46, this table is basically set up by it
Stanyl® is synonymous with PA46. Around the engine, gears, timing components, bearing cages, as well as electronic connectors and SMT components, a large amount of it is used behind the scenes. Its high crystallinity provides high-temperature rigidity, and after glass fiber reinforcement, it can still maintain its dimensions at high temperatures. Flame-retardant grades can achieve V-0, and the CTI is also high.
Regarding the secondary batches, Stanyl's secondary batches mostly come from lots with slight deviations in melt index or hue. For factories producing general gears, bushings, and non-high-gloss structural parts, selecting high-quality secondary batches is fine, as the high-temperature wear resistance remains unchanged. There are both large and small packaging options, and samples and mass production can be chosen according to usage. One thing to note: precisely because it is so dominant, the market is full of mixed-quality products labeled as 'Stanyl secondary batches.' Make sure to identify the original factory packaging and check the batch number; that's more reliable than anything else.
BASF: The Second-Tier Player in the PA46 Field
Apart from Stanyl, BASF can be considered one of the few companies that still offers noteworthy PA46/high-temperature polyamide grades. Its strength lies in the complete set of polyamide formulations and additive systems, and many of its PA46-related grades are aimed at heat-resistant parts for the automotive and electronics sectors.
Its secondary grade material also comes from batch indicators with slight deviations. The quantity is not large, but the stability is reliable. For manufacturers who are already modifying within the BASF system and do not want to put all their eggs in one basket, its secondary grade is a supplementary option.
Asahi Kasei: Small-scale, Precisely Aligned Third Tier
Asahi Kasei takes a small and refined approach in high-temperature nylons. The volume of PA46 grades is not large, but it focuses on a few specific heat-resistant and wear-resistant applications. It does not pursue quantity, but performance that fits specific conditions.
Its secondary brand material comes from the same source as before, suitable for mature parts that have already been verified for part numbers and want to reduce costs a bit. These niche secondary brands have low circulation in the market, so you need to find channels with a stable supply, and not try to improvise at the last minute.
Buy a PA46 side card, don't just focus on the fusion slot
The most common pitfall with PA46 generic brands is treating it the same way as PA66. First, it crystallizes quickly, so mold temperature and cooling rhythm need to be adjusted; using PA66 parameters directly will cause flash and short shots. Second, for high-temperature parts, you must check the strength retention after thermal aging, as looking at the melt flow index of new material is useless. Third, for gears and bearing parts, noise and wear testing on a bench is necessary—don’t just check the appearance. Fourth, moisture absorption still requires pre-drying; generic brands are no exception.
Frankly speaking, the PA46 isn't something you can just buy and get running; it requires craftsmanship.

PA46 Don't just look at the melting finger for sub-brands; calculate the gap accurately before feeding
Here is the mnemonic:
Must still withstand high temperatures, be wear-resistant and low-noise—choose PA46, don't use PA66 hardheads;
Certified parts, high-gloss exterior parts—genuine brand, don't skimp;
General gears, bushings, internal structural parts—check the secondary label, stand first, then mass production;
Mold temperature and cooling rhythm should be reset to PA46, don't use PA66;
Thermal aging strength should be tested first, don't just look at new material melting fingers;
Gear bearing parts should be repaired for noise and wear on the bench;
Make sure to use original factory packaging, get batch numbers, use small quantities for smaller packaging, mass production for larger packages.
Yulin has a customer specializing in automotive gears and bearing bushings. Previously, using ordinary modified nylon tops, running continuously at high temperatures for two months, gear surface wear and noise increased, resulting in a test bench pass rate of only 70%. Later, they switched to imported PA46 secondary brands, re-checked the clearance according to gear modules, processed high-temperature thermal aging and wear benches, raised the test bench pass rate to 96%, reduced noise, and reduced unit cost a notch lower than genuine Stanyl. What does this mean? The secondary brand saves on purchase price, not performance. Ningbo Kelong New Materials Co., Ltd. has long produced imported high-temperature nylon secondary brands, handling many similar gear bearing cases annually. Simply put, they help you prevent "grinding into a fan shape after two months of running" before the mold is opened.
Gears, bearings, and transmission parts, who hasn't been tricked by PA46? Is it that the flash can't block the crystallization too fast? Or does the tooth surface wear down after two months of use? Or is the secondary brand brand misaligned and brittle during machine use?
