做ABS的看不起做AES的,可户外翻车的偏偏是ABS
苯乙烯系圈子里有个老掉牙的鄙视链:做ABS的觉得自己量大面广、啥都能做,看不上做AES这种“小众耐候料”。
可真到了户外电子电器外壳这个场景,翻车翻得凶的恰恰是ABS。ABS里那个丁二烯橡胶,见着紫外线就翻脸,户外放半年,外壳粉化、发黄、一碰就掉渣。客户装在户外的路由器外壳、电表箱、监控外壳,一个夏天回来,投诉单堆成山。
AES就是奔着治这个病来的——它用EPDM橡胶把ABS里的丁二烯替了下来,耐候性一下拉开代差。可AES正牌贵,回料又扛不住老化,于是副牌成了中间那档。这篇把AES讲透:它到底凭什么耐晒、全球前三国外大厂是谁、副牌怎么挑。
AES的本事,是把怕晒的那一段换成不怕晒的
AES全称丙烯腈-EPDM-苯乙烯,说白了就是ABS的耐候改版。ABS的抗冲靠丁二烯,丁二烯里那双键怕紫外线;AES把这一段换成EPDM橡胶,双键没了,紫外线就拆不动它,户外长期用不粉化、不泛黄。
它的典型去处是户外电子电器外壳、空调外机部件、路灯灯罩外壳、草坪音响这种“常年在外风吹日晒”的件。要耐候、又要抗冲、还要有苯乙烯系那种好加工的表面,AES就是对口选手。
全球做AES的国外大厂,主要集中在日本。按技术和产能交叉看,第一梯队是日本钟化、日本UMG、日本电气化学这三家;LG化学、三井化学也有相关牌号在流通。注意,市面上常把ASA和AES混着叫,ASA用的是丙烯酸酯橡胶、AES用的是EPDM橡胶,挑料时别让供应商把ASA当AES卖给你。
副牌不是降级,是原厂同批料里耐候指标差一格的那一档
AES副牌的定义和系列里其他品类一致:同一厂家、同一牌号里,出厂检验没完全踩中正牌指标的那部分。分子结构和正牌一样,EPDM那段橡胶也在,只是个别指标——常是色差、熔指、抗冲——小幅偏离。
四大来源依旧是开停车头尾料、牌号切换过渡料、工艺波动致单项超标的批次、副线尾料。它仍是原厂原生聚合粒子。
边界要划清:正牌全指标达标、批次稳;副牌个别指标小幅偏离、基材一致;回料是加工边角料再造粒、已经受过一次热历史;再生料性能波动大。户外件怕老化,用回料等于给外壳埋雷,副牌才是原厂料里能压成本的正道。
日本钟化:AES这门生意里,它是绕不开的主
日本钟化(Kaneka)在AES领域是公认的老大哥,Kanekaron A系列是它家代表牌号,长期在全球AES市场占主导。它家的料耐候稳定、表面质感好,做户外电子外壳和汽车外饰件的配方里经常见到。
钟化副牌的特点是耐候底子在,即使色差或熔指小幅飘,紫外老化的性能还在线。适合做户外外壳这种“颜色不一定顶格、但耐候必须到位”的件。挑它家副牌,重点看色差能不能过你的外装标准,别牺牲耐候去换价格。
日本UMG:Techno-UMG,苯乙烯系耐候的专才
日本UMG(Techno-UMG)是大科能和UMG两家苯乙烯厂合并而来,在耐候苯乙烯这块是专才。它家AES牌号在电子电器外壳和挤出型材领域口碑扎实,加工窗口宽、表面光泽好。
UMG副牌的好处是流动性和表面质量稳,做复杂外壳、薄壁外装件上手快。它家料常做小包装,小批量打样和多配方切换都方便。做电子外壳这种件,用它家副牌替代正牌,先打样测色差和耐候,对得上就放量。
日本电气化学:Denka,耐候抗冲的老牌选手
日本电气化学(Denka)做苯乙烯系材料年头很长,AES牌号以抗冲和耐候兼顾著称。它家料在户外设备外壳、空调部件这些对冲击和耐候双有要求的场景里用得不少。
电气化学副牌的特点是抗冲性能保留得好,适合做可能受外力磕碰的户外壳体。挑它家副牌,建议把冲击强度和熔指两个数一起验,别只盯耐候,户外件摔一下裂了一样要退货。
挑AES副牌,先把这四个坑填上
第一,别把ASA当AES。两者都耐候,但橡胶段不同,加工和收缩有差异,下单前问清楚橡胶体系。
第二,认准日本三家原厂副牌。钟化、UMG、电气化学的原厂副牌来路清楚,耐候记录可查,别拿杂牌子冒充。
第三,色差和熔指先验再上机。户外外壳对色差敏感,先打样对色板;熔指不对,薄壁外装件充不满。
第四,用对位置。做需要顶格耐候认证的外装件,上正牌;做外壳内件、非外露结构件、配色件,副牌才是空间。

In the styrene circle, there's an age-old hierarchy of contempt: those who work with ABS think they have large volume and wide applications, can do anything, and look down on those making AES, a 'niche weather-resistant material'.
When it really comes to outdoor electronic and electrical enclosures, the one that fails miserably is ABS. The butadiene rubber in ABS reacts badly to ultraviolet light; if left outdoors for half a year, the enclosure chalks, yellows, and crumbles at the slightest touch. For routers, electricity meter boxes, and surveillance housings placed outdoors, after just one summer, complaint forms pile up like mountains.
AES is specifically designed to tackle this issue—it replaces the butadiene in ABS with EPDM rubber, instantly improving weather resistance. However, genuine AES is expensive, and recycled material can’t withstand aging, so the alternative brands take the middle ground. AES's capability is to replace the part that is afraid of sunlight with one that is not afraid of sunlight.
AES stands for Acrylonitrile-EPDM-Styrene, which, to put it simply, is a weather-resistant version of ABS. ABS's impact resistance comes from butadiene, but the double bonds in butadiene are sensitive to UV light; AES replaces this part with EPDM rubber, removing the double bonds, so UV light can't break it down, making it suitable for long-term outdoor use without chalking or yellowing.
Its typical applications are outdoor electronic and electrical enclosures, air conditioner outdoor unit parts, street lamp cover housings, and lawn speakers—those kinds of parts that are 'exposed to wind and sun all year round.' They need to be weather-resistant, impact-resistant, and also have styrene-based surfaces that are easy to process, and AES is the right choice for that.
The major foreign manufacturers producing AES globally are mainly concentrated in Japan. Looking at it from the perspective of technology and production capacity, the first tier consists of Denka Japan, UMG Japan, and Mitsubishi Chemical Japan; LG Chem and Mitsui Chemicals also have related grades available on the market. Note that ASA and AES are often mixed up in the market. ASA uses acrylate rubber, while AES uses EPDM rubber, so when selecting materials, make sure the supplier does not sell ASA as AES to you.
The secondary card is not a downgrade; it’s the batch from the original factory with weather resistance one grade lower.
The definition of AES secondary grade is consistent with other categories in the series: for the same manufacturer and the same grade, the portion that did not fully meet the primary grade specifications during factory inspection. The molecular structure is the same as the primary grade, and the EPDM portion of the rubber is also present, only a few indicators—usually color difference, melt index, impact resistance—slightly deviate.
The four main sources are still the leftover material from starting and stopping production, transitional material from grade switching, batches with individual items exceeding standards due to process fluctuations, and leftover material from secondary lines. It is still original factory native polymer particles.
Boundaries need to be clear: the main brand meets all standard indicators and has stable batches; the secondary brand has slight deviations in individual indicators, but the substrate is consistent; reprocessed material is made from processed scraps and has already undergone one heat history; recycled material has great performance fluctuations. Outdoor components are afraid of aging, using recycled material is like planting a landmine in the housing, the secondary brand is the proper way to cut costs among original materials.
Japan Clock Industry: In the AES business, it is an unavoidable mainstay
Japan's Kaneka is recognized as a leader in the AES field. The Kanekaron A series is its representative brand, and it has long dominated the global AES market. Its materials are weather-resistant and have a good surface texture, and its formulations are often seen in outdoor electronic enclosures and automotive exterior parts.
The characteristic of Zhonghua's secondary brand is that it has a weather-resistant base, so even if there is a slight color difference or light flowing when molding, the performance against UV aging still holds. It is suitable for outdoor housings where 'the color doesn't have to be perfect, but weather resistance must be in place.' When choosing their secondary brand, the key is to see whether the color difference can meet your external finish standards; don't sacrifice weather resistance for a lower price.
Japan UMG: Techno-UMG, specialist in styrene-based weather resistance
Japan UMG (Techno-UMG) was formed by the merger of the styrene plants of Dakineng and UMG, specializing in weather-resistant styrene. Its AES grades have a solid reputation in the fields of electronic and electrical housings and extruded profiles, with a wide processing window and good surface gloss.
The advantage of UMG's sub-brand is its liquidity and stable surface quality, making it quick to work with for complex enclosures and thin-walled exterior parts. Their materials are often packaged in small sizes, which is convenient for small-batch prototyping and switching between multiple formulations. For electronic enclosures, using their sub-brand as a substitute for the main brand, you first create samples to check color differences and weather resistance, and if they match, you go into full production.
Japan Electric Chemicals: Denka, a veteran player in weather resistance and impact resistance
Denka, a Japanese chemical company, has a long history in producing styrene-based materials. Its AES grades are known for balancing impact resistance and weather resistance. Their materials are widely used in outdoor equipment enclosures and air conditioning components, where both impact resistance and weather resistance are required.
The characteristic of the secondary brand of electrochemical products is that it retains good impact resistance, making it suitable for outdoor housings that may be subjected to external force and bumps. When choosing their secondary brand, it is recommended to check both the impact strength and the melt flow index together, rather than only focusing on weather resistance, because outdoor parts will also need to be returned if they crack after being dropped.
Choose AES sub-brand, first fill in these four gaps
First, don't treat ASA as AES. Both are weather-resistant, but the rubber segments are different, and there are differences in processing and shrinkage. Make sure to ask about the rubber system before placing an order.
Second, stick to the three Japanese original manufacturers' sub-brands. The sub-brands of Chungwa, UMG, and Electrochemical have clear origins and verifiable weather resistance records, so don't pretend with miscellaneous brands.
Third, color difference and melt index should be checked before machine processing. Outdoor housings are sensitive to color differences, so samples should be made according to the color board first; if the melt index is incorrect, thin-walled exterior parts cannot be fully filled.
Fourth, use the correct position. For exterior parts that require full-position weathering certification, use the main brand; for interior parts of the casing, non-exposed structural parts, and color-matched parts, the secondary brand is appropriate.

There is a client in Nantong that makes outdoor communication equipment and meter enclosures. Previously, for convenience, they used ABS for the enclosures. However, due to the rainy season and strong sun in the south, the enclosures yellowed and became brittle in less than a year, resulting in a high repair rate. Later, they switched to the AES sub-brand from Japan's Chuuka. Upon arrival, color differences and melt flow index were inspected first. The parts originally made with ABS were entirely switched to the AES solution. After being placed outdoors for two years, complaints about yellowing and chalking dropped from more than 20 per year to fewer than 3, while the material cost per piece was actually lower than that of the standard AES brand.
