Last month, the brand changed packaging materials from PCTA to regular PETG. The few bundles of Eastman BR203 and a few bags of BR208 in the warehouse have been lying on trays for almost a year. Dust has settled on the bags, the labels are still clear, but no one comes to pick them up. Every time Lao He does the inventory, he sighs—this material wasn't cheap back then, but now it's piled up like waste plastic.

PCTA this stuff, to put it bluntly, is modified PET copolyester, chemically resistant and tougher than PET, specialized for cosmetic packaging and transparent films. What makes it so delicate? Afraid of moisture absorption, high temperatures, and mixing with other transparent polyesters. It's the same as when transparent glass cups gather dust after being stored for a long time—the material itself isn't bad, but if it absorbs moisture, it tends to show silver lines and fog up during injection molding. What's even more troublesome is that PCTA is not cheap; a single tray can cost tens of thousands, and warehouse rent for a year is extra.

High-end transparent polyester absorbs moisture, and its value drops accordingly. What's even more troublesome is that when PCTA and PETG are placed together, you can't tell them apart just by looking; you have to test melting point and chemical resistance. The dealer didn't understand this trick, grabbed him, squeezed a couple of times, and charged you with the mixed transparent polyester product, selling the good material at a junk price.

Telling a truth, Old He once asked around around waste collectors. As soon as he heard it was PCTA, some people said, "This copolymer polyester is too niche, we can't do it." Someone quoted a price, and when Old He called them over, the other party pinched the bag twice and said, "Your material has absorbed moisture too long, so you can only buy it as regular transparent polyester," cutting the price by nearly 30%. Old He wanted to argue, but the other person shrugged, "If you don't sell to me, there will be a long line at the entrance."

Wholesalers are happier to see niche copolymer polyester than to see fat meat—they know you can't find a buyer, so they press it hard. They're not here to collect goods, they're here to collect your anxiety.

Cologne New Materials follows the terminal digestion route for PCTA recycling. Eastman BR203 and BR208, commonly used cosmetic packaging grades, are still used by downstream packaging factories, and after grading, they are directly taken away. SK Chemical's Skygreen series daily use brands are also accepted—niche materials are processed into their own transparent modified formulas, regardless of batch or color. PCTA is originally used for transparent copolymerization, and when mixed back into transparent modified materials, its physical properties still match.

Pricing is based on light transmittance, chemical resistance, and appearance. Clean and transparent materials are priced well, while those with slight moisture absorption are accepted as modified transparent materials. Copolyester isn't unwanted by anyone; it's that you haven't found the right people who truly use it. Lao He now says this to everyone he meets.

Five-step cooperation process: material reporting, grading evaluation, on-site pickup, deduction of payment, settlement and invoicing. That's how Old He handled that batch of material—he took photos and sent them with about three tons of BR203 and two tons of BR208. After we appraised and quoted the price, we arranged a time for a home weighing. The recycling payment was directly used to offset the payment for next month's purchase of KONICE modified plastic, totaling about thirty thousand. After clearing out half the warehouse, Old He said it felt as satisfying as clearing old debts.

Recycling isn't about selling copolyester cheaply, but about revitalizing the unused money held in the warehouse. Later, Old He told his peers about this, and they finally understood—it turns out PCTA isn't unwanted by anyone, but that they haven't found the right people to truly digest it.

Currently, the recyclable PCTA grades include Eastman PCTA BR203, BR208, SK Chem's Skygreen series, and other mainstream numbers; For Selenis and other grades, the actual appraisal is the standard. In terms of form, we accept all the following materials: obsolete original packaging, cosmetic packaging edges, transparent bottle gates, discarded cream bottles, and leftover stock materials. Don't mix transparent materials with colored materials; packaging them separately and grading them is more cost-effective.
