很多人以为,做汽车散热器水室,不就是PA66加玻纤吗?
真相是——现在新能车和燃油车的水室,越来越多从PA66切到PPO/PA合金了。
原因不复杂:水室要长期扛乙二醇冷却液,PA66吸水后尺寸会变,玻纤外露会漏;PPO/PA合金把PPO的低吸湿和PA的耐化学性焊在一起,尺寸稳、不渗漏、抗乙二醇。
哈尔滨有家做汽车散热器水室的厂,前年还在纠结要不要把PA66切到PPO/PA,去年一批新能源车型定点直接要求PPO/PA合金。老板硬着头皮上正牌,一吨四万多,成本直接打穿。后来才发现,PPO/PA这东西,副牌里藏着一条成本活路。
PPO和PPE是一回事?汽车水室用的是PPO/PA合金
先把概念说清楚:PPO和PPE,本质上是同一种树脂的两个名字。PPO是Polyphenylene Oxide的缩写,PPE是Polyphenylene Ether的缩写,分子链都是2,6-二甲基苯酚聚合出来的。美国那边习惯叫PPO,日本那边习惯叫PPE,指的是同一个东西。
纯PPO加工性差,市面上卖的PPO,全是合金——PPO/PS做电子件,PPO/PA做汽车件。汽车水室这个细分,用的就是PPO/PA合金,典型代表是SABIC的Noryl GTX系列。
全球做PPO改性合金的国外头部企业,按产能和份额排:
SABIC(沙特基础工业):Noryl系列,全球份额约18%-24%,汽车水室领域渗透率最高;
旭化成(Asahi Kasei,日本):Xyron系列,份额约14%-16%;
三菱工程塑料(Mitsubishi Engineering-Plastics,日本):Iupiace系列,份额约9%-12%。
这三家加上巴斯夫的Luranyl(PPO/PA合金),基本把汽车水室用PPO/PA市场瓜分得差不多了。国内蓝星这两年在追,但新能源汽车水室的认证级牌号,话语权还在SABIC手里。
电子级PPO(覆铜板用)另算——SABIC一家占了约70%,旭化成约20%,三菱瓦斯化学约5%,那是另一个故事。
PPO副牌:原厂原生合金粒子,不是回收胶
PPO副牌的逻辑,和其他工程塑料副牌一致,但汽车水室这个场景有它自己的脾气。
PPO副牌的真身:同一釜PPO/PA合金改性产物里,出厂检验耐乙二醇、耐热、熔指、冲击这几项中,有一项或两项小幅偏离正牌指标的那一档。四大来源还是那四个:开停车头尾料、牌号切换过渡料、工艺波动批次、副线尾料。
边界画清楚:正牌PPO/PA全指标达标,过主机厂认证,做新能源汽车水室、油冷器壳;副牌PPO/PA个别指标小幅浮动,做售后市场水室、非认证级冷却系统件;回料PPO/PA已经过一次热历史,合金界面破坏,不能用于承压件;再生PPO/PA性能波动大,只能做不承载的结构件。
一句话:PPO副牌是原厂原生合金粒子,PPO/PA比例和正牌一致,只是某一项指标在出厂时没踩线。
SABIC——Noryl GTX,汽车水室的事实标准
SABIC的Noryl GTX系列,在汽车散热器水室里几乎就是事实标准。GTX910、GTX920这些牌号,玻纤增强PPO/PA合金,长期扛120℃乙二醇冷却液,尺寸稳、不渗漏,欧美主机厂的散热器供应商基本都在用。
SABIC在比利时Bergen op Zoom和新加坡都有产能,汽车级牌号全球供货。
副牌特点:SABIC副牌多从GTX系列的过渡料里出,耐乙二醇性能不变,只是熔指或冲击强度略飘(冲击通常从60kJ/m²掉到50-55kJ/m²)。适合做售后市场水室、商用车冷却系统件,不适合做新能源车主驱动舱的认证级承压水室。包装以大包装为主,小包装也有流通。
旭化成——Xyron,日系汽车供应链的熟面孔
旭化成的Xyron在日系汽车供应链里用得很多,Xyron G701、V100系列这些牌号,做散热器水室和电机绝缘件都有渗透。旭化成的技术特点是合金界面做得细,耐冷却液老化性能在日系客户里口碑硬。
副牌特点:旭化成副牌常见的是耐热略低5℃-10℃,但耐乙二醇和尺寸稳定性不掉。做商用车水室、工程机械冷却系统件特别合适。哈尔滨那家厂后来换的就是Xyron的副牌,乙二醇老化测试500小时后尺寸变化从2%压到0.5%以内。
三菱工程塑料——Iupiace,性价比路线
三菱工程塑料的Iupiace在汽车冷却系统和OA设备里都有渗透。Iupiace的特点是加工窗口宽,对模具温度不敏感,价格比SABIC和旭化成略低一档。
副牌特点:三菱副牌的指标偏离幅度小,但货期在国内不如前两家稳。适合做对成本敏感、又需要进口PPO/PA基材的售后市场水室、冷却系统外壳件。
PPO副牌用在水室上,这三个坑一个都不能踩
PPO副牌用在汽车水室上,坑比电子件还多。
第一坑:拿PPO/PS副牌当PPO/PA副牌卖。PPO/PS不耐乙二醇,做水室一上车,冷却液一泡就裂。买之前问清楚合金体系——水室必须PPO/PA。
第二坑:把再生PPO/PA当副牌卖。再生料经过两次热历史,PPO和PA的合金界面破坏,耐冷却液老化直接腰斩。分辨方法:原厂副牌粒子表面光滑、颜色均匀;再生料发暗、有黑点、粒度不齐。
第三坑:不分认证级别乱上。主机厂认证级水室必须正牌;售后市场和商用车非关键件,副牌刚好。别为了省成本把副牌用在主驱动舱承压件上,那是拿召回风险换材料差价。
验收动作:进厂测三项——耐乙二醇老化(120℃×500h)、热变形温度、熔指,留样封袋。水室是承压件,这三项一项都不能省。

Many people think that making car radiator water chambers is just PA66 with fiberglass, right?
The truth is—nowadays, more and more new energy and fuel vehicle water chambers are switching from PA66 to PPO/PA alloy.
The reason isn't complicated: the water chamber must withstand long-term ethylene glycol coolant, and PA66 changes size after absorbing water, causing the exposed glass fiber to leak; PPO/PA alloy welds PPO's low moisture absorption with PA's chemical resistance, resulting in stable dimensions, no leakage, and ethylene glycol resistance.
There is a factory in Harbin that makes automotive radiator water chambers. Two years ago, they were still debating whether to switch PA66 to PPO/PA. Last year, a batch of new energy vehicles specifically required PPO/PA alloy. The boss braved the real deal, over 40,000 yuan per ton, with costs directly cut through. PPO and PPE the same thing? Car washrooms use PPO/PA alloy
To clarify the concept: PPO and PPE are essentially two names for the same resin. PPO stands for Polyphenylene Oxide, PPE stands for Polyphenylene Ether, and both molecular chains are polymerized from 2,6-dimethylphenol. In the US, it's commonly called PPO; in Japan, it's called PPE, referring to the same substance.
Pure PPO has poor processability; all PPOs sold on the market are alloys—PPO/PS for electronic components, PPO/PA for automotive parts. The automotive water chamber segment uses PPO/PA alloys, with SABIC's Noryl GTX series being a typical example.
Global leading foreign companies in PPO modified alloys by capacity and market share:
SABIC (Saudi Basic Industries): Noryl series, global market share about 18%-24%, highest penetration in automotive water chamber sector;
Asahi Kasei (Japan): Xylon series, about 14%-16%;
Mitsubishi Engineering-Plastics (Japan): Iupiace series, market share about 9%-12%.
These three companies, plus BASF's Luranyl (PPO/PA alloy), basically divide up the PPO/PA market for automotive water chambers. Domestic Bluestar has been chasing in recent years, but SABIC's authority in new energy vehicle water chamber certification grades is still in SABIC's hands.
Electronic grade PPO (for copper-clad laminates) is another count—SABIC alone accounts for about 70%, Asahi Kasei about 20%, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical about 5%, but that's another story.
PPO sub-brand: original original alloy pellets, not recycled rubber
PPO sub-brand, similar to other engineering plastic sub-brands, but the car water compartment scenario has its own character.
PPO sub-brand: Among the modified products of PPO/PA alloy in the same tank, one or two items in factory inspection for ethylene glycol resistance, heat resistance, melting fingers, and impact deviate slightly from the official brand standards. The four main sources remain the same four: start-stop and tail materials, grade switching transition materials, process fluctuation batches, and auxiliary line residues.
Clear boundaries: Genuine PPO/PA meets all specifications, OEM certification, and is used for new energy vehicle water chambers and oil cooler housings; Sub-brand PPO/PA has slight fluctuations in certain indicators, used for aftermarket water chambers and non-certified cooling system components; Reclaimed PPO/PA has already passed one thermal history, alloy interface damage, and cannot be used for pressure-bearing parts; Recycled PPO/PA performance fluctuates greatly and can only be made for non-load-bearing structural parts.
In a nutshell: The secondary brand PPO consists of original original alloy particles, with PPO/PA ratio consistent with genuine brand, except that one indicator was not crossed at the factory.
SABIC—Noryl GTX, the de facto standard for automotive water chambers
SABIC The Noryl GTX series is almost the de facto standard in automotive radiator water chambers. Grades like GTX910 and GTX920 are fiberglass-reinforced PPO/PA alloys, long-term resistant to 120°C ethylene glycol coolant, with stable dimensions and no leakage. Radiator suppliers from European and American OEMs basically use them.
SABIC have production capacity in Bergen Op Zoom in Belgium and Singapore, supplying automotive-grade grades worldwide.
Sub-brand Features: SABIC's secondary brands mostly come from transition materials in the GTX series, with ethylene glycol resistance unchanged, but the melt finger or impact strength is slightly unstable (impact usually drops from 60 kJ/m² to 50-55 kJ/m²). Suitable for aftermarket water chambers and commercial vehicle cooling system components, not suitable for certified-grade pressurized water chambers for new energy vehicle driver cabins. Packaging is mainly large packages, but small packages are also available.
Asahi Kasei—Xyron, a familiar face in the Japanese automotive supply chain
Asahi Kasei's Xyron is widely used in Japanese automotive supply chains. Grades like Xyron G701 and V100 series are well used for radiator water chambers and motor insulation parts. Asahi Kasei's technical features include fine alloy interfaces and a strong reputation among Japanese customers for coolant aging resistance.
Subbrand features: Asahi Kasei's secondary brands commonly have heat resistance slightly lower than 5°C-10°C, but ethylene glycol resistance and dimensional stability remain intact. They are especially suitable for commercial vehicle water chambers and construction machinery cooling system components. The Harbin factory later switched to the Xyron subbrand, reducing dimensional change from 2% to less than 0.5% after 500 hours of ethylene glycol aging tests.
Mitsubishi Engineering Plastics—Iupiace, cost-performance route
Mitsubishi Engineering Plastics' Iupiace is penetrated in automotive cooling systems and OA equipment. Iupiace features a wide processing window, is not sensitive to mold temperature, and its price is slightly lower than SABIC and Asahi Kasei.
Subbrand Features: Mitsubishi's secondary brand has small indicator deviations, but its lead times domestically are less stable than the top two. Suitable for aftermarket water chamber and cooling system enclosure parts that are cost-sensitive and require imported PPO/PA substrates.
PPO sub-brand used in water chambers, none of these three pitfalls can be
PPO secondary brands used in automotive water chambers have more pitfalls than electronic components.
First pitfall: selling PPO/PS secondary brands as PPO/PA secondary brands. PPO/PS is not ethylene glycol resistant; as soon as the water chamber is installed, the coolant cracks as soon as it soaks. Before buying, ask clearly about the alloy system—the water chamber must be PPO/PA.
Second pitfall: selling recycled PPO/PA as a secondary brand. After two heat cycles, the alloy interface between PPO and PA is damaged, and coolant aging resistance is cut in half. Identification method: original secondary brand particles have smooth surfaces and uniform color; Recycled materials are dark, have black spots, and uneven particle size
Third pitfall: Randomly applying regardless of certification level. OEM certified water compartments must be genuine; For aftermarket and commercial vehicle non-critical parts, the secondary plate fits perfectly. Don't use secondary plates on main drive cabin pressure parts just to save costs; that's risking recalls to exchange material price differences.
Acceptance action: Three tests upon factory testing—ethylene glycol aging resistance (120°C×500h), heat deformation temperature, melting finger, and sample sealing bag. The water chamber is a pressure-bearing component; none of these three should be skipped.
