PEEK: The temperature-resistant leader among specialty engineering plastics

PEEK, polyether ether ketone, is recognized in specialty engineering plastics as the 'temperature-resistant champion.' The medical implant grade has very high requirements for biocompatibility certification, which the secondary brand does not have, so do not force it into medical implant scenarios.

Solvay KetaSpire: High-end purity, mainly for medical and electronic packaging

The second company, Solvay, now has its high-performance polymer business under Solvay Specialty Polymers in Belgium. KetaSpire is its PEEK brand, focusing on high-end medical and electronic packaging, with good fluidity and high purity.

When choosing a PEEK secondary brand, first clearly consider which certification your parts need to pass and how high the temperature resistance should be, then match the grade accordingly.

The PEEK sub-brand has three flaws; don't treat the sub-brand as aerospace-grade.

First, don't use a secondary brand as if it's aerospace-grade or medical implant-grade—the two scenarios require certification and batch traceability, which a secondary brand doesn't have. Second, the viscosity doesn't match; PEEK viscosity directly determines molecular weight and strength. Using a different viscosity for structural parts will result in reduced fatigue resistance.

Third is ash content and impurities. For semiconductor carriers that require high cleanliness, the ash content must be reduced to a very low level, so do not use substandard brands with higher ash content. Also, PEEK absorbs little moisture but still needs to be dried before processing, and substandard brands should also be dried according to the process card—do not skip this step.
