每年冬天一来,改性厂的车间就开始翻车:一批增韧改性料刚下线,做保险杠的客户拉回去一装车,零下十几度,制件脆得像酥饼,一磕就裂。老板盯着报表直拍桌子——配方明明没动啊?
配方没动,动的是料。POE这个增韧剂,牌号选错一个,冬天的韧性就能差出一个冬天。熔指、乙烯辛烯比例、共聚单体类型,哪个对不上,增韧效果都要打折。
本质上,POE是个被催化剂和牌号定义的料。它不是随便一袋“弹性体”都能增韧。这篇把POE全球前三的国外大厂讲透,再说说副牌到底能不能用来增韧、怎么用才不翻车。
POE是什么,增韧背后的催化密码
POE,聚烯烃弹性体,用茂金属催化做的乙烯-α烯烃共聚物。它又软又韧、耐低温、和聚烯烃相容性好,做改性PP/PE的增韧剂、做鞋材、做光伏胶膜、做汽车内饰,都是主力。增韧改性里,POE基本是绕不开的一号角色。
全球POE是个寡头市场,产能和催化剂都攥在几家手里。按市场份额与产能口径,综合行业研报与企业公开资料(2025—2026年):
1. 陶氏 Dow(美国):ENGAGE™、INFUSE™ 系列,全球POE产能与份额领先,约三成以上;
2. 埃克森美孚 ExxonMobil(美国):Exact™、Vistamaxx™ 系列,份额约两成上下;
3. 三井化学 Mitsui(日本):TAFMER™ 系列,茂金属弹性体老牌玩家。
这三家加上LG化学、SABIC合资的SSNC等,把全球POE供应大头攥在手里。POE的牌号差异极大,同一个牌号换个共聚单体,增韧效果天差地别,所以谈POE副牌,先谈牌号对不对得上。
POE副牌从哪来,和再生弹性体不是一回事
副牌逻辑一样:同一装置、同一批茂金属聚合料,全指标达标贴正牌,个别指标小幅没踩线就是副牌。POE副牌身上常见的问题,是熔指、密度、硬度小幅偏离,核心弹性和韧性指标通常仍在合理区间。
四个来源:开停车头尾料、切牌号过渡料、工艺波动导致单项指标小幅超标的批次、副线尾料。它是原厂原生茂金属聚烯烃粒子,分子结构和正牌一致。
这里的边界比别的料更要紧:POE副牌是原厂茂金属料;而再生弹性体、EPDM回料、杂色弹性体,虽然也软,增韧效率和相容性差得远。市面上拿别的弹性体冒充POE副牌的,做改性增韧一上机就露馅——增不进去韧,反而拖流动性。做增韧改性的,把四类料分清楚,是少赔料的前提。包装认准大包装、小包装即可。
陶氏ENGAGE™:增韧界的标配
先看陶氏。美国陶氏,ENGAGE™是它家POE的招牌,INFUSE™做嵌段牌号,全球POE产能领先。ENGAGE™牌号覆盖增韧、薄膜、线缆、汽车,做改性PP/PE增韧,ENGAGE™几乎是行业里的默认选项。
ENGAGE™的副牌,多为熔指或密度小幅偏离的批次。它适合做非苛刻的增韧改性、一般汽车内饰增韧件、日用品增韧。但要做保险杠这种要求低温抗冲的关键件,增韧比例和牌号得对死,副牌能不能用,要先做低温悬臂梁验证。
埃克森美孚Exact™:高流动耐低温派
再看埃克森美孚。Exact™做乙烯-α烯烃共聚物,Vistamaxx™做丙烯基弹性体,主打耐低温、高流动、增韧效率高。做高流动薄壁件的增韧、做低温抗冲,Exact™的牌号很对口。
Exact™副牌的特点是牌号贴近薄壁、高流动场景,适合做对流动性要求高、韧性要求中等的改性件。它的副牌拿来做一般增韧改性、填充体系增韧,性价比不错。关键是牌号要和你的基体、壁厚对上,别拿高熔指副牌去做需要高强度的件。
三井TAFMER™:茂金属老牌精工派
再看三井化学。日本三井的TAFMER™,是茂金属聚烯烃弹性体的老牌招牌,做增韧、做相容、做软质触感件口碑一直在线。它的牌号体系细,从增韧级到柔软级分得清楚。
TAFMER™副牌,适合做汽车内饰增韧、软触感件、非关键结构的增韧改性。它的量没有陶氏那么大,但牌号细、批次稳,挑精选副牌用在非低温关键件上,很稳。做汽车外饰低温抗冲关键件的,正牌还是别省。
POE副牌怎么选,改性厂的增韧账
POE做增韧,副牌能不能用,核心看你的件吃不吃低温抗冲。选料几条:
一看牌号对不对基体。PP增韧选乙烯-辛烯,PE增韧选相容的共聚单体,别拿错体系。二看熔指和硬度,和你的加工工艺、目标韧性对上。三做验证,副牌进厂,先做低温悬臂梁/简支梁冲击,再做流动和相容性测试。
常见坑:拿再生弹性体冒充POE副牌,增韧效率掉一半;牌号熔指对不上,加再多也增不进去韧;副牌和别的弹性体混用,相容性出问题,表面发花、性能波动。做增韧改性都知道,一柜料的增韧效果不对,整批改性料都得返工。

Every winter, the modification factory's workshop starts to mess up: a batch of toughening modified material just rolls off the line, and when the bumper customer pulls it back for loading, the parts are as brittle as crispy cakes, cracking at the slightest impact. The boss stares at the report and slams the table—the formula clearly hasn't changed?
The formula hasn't changed, but the material has been changed. POE, this toughening agent, if you pick the wrong grade, its toughness in winter can be worse than ever. If the melting finger, vinyl-vinyl-vinyl ratio, or copolymer monomer type doesn't match, the toughening effect will be compromised.
Essentially, POE is a material defined by catalysts and grades. It's not toughened by just a random bag of "elastomer." This article thoroughly explains the top three global POE foreign companies, then discusses whether secondary brands can be used for toughening and how to avoid backfires. What is
POE? The catalytic code behind toughening
POE polyolefin elastomers, ethylene-α olefin copolymers made by metallocene catalysis. They are soft and tough, resistant to low temperatures, and compatible with polyolefins. They are main products for toughening modified PP/PE, shoe materials, photovoltaic films, and automotive interiors. In toughening modification, POE is basically the unavoidable number one player.
Global POE is an oligopoly market, with production capacity and catalysts controlled by a few companies. By market share and capacity criteria, based on industry research reports and publicly available company data (2025–2026):
1. Dow (USA): ENGAGE™ and INFUSE™ series, leading global POE capacity and share, about 30% or more;
2. ExxonMobil (USA): Execute™ and Vistamaxx™ series, market share around 20%;
3. Mitsui Chemicals (Japan): TAFMER™ series, a veteran player in metallocene elastomers.
These three companies, along with SSNC, a joint venture between LG Chem and SABIC, hold the bulk of global POE supply. POE grades vary greatly; switching to a copolymer monomer of the same grade results in vastly different toughening effects. So when discussing POE secondary brands, let's first discuss whether the grades match.
POE secondary brand originates from different matters than recycled elastomers
Subbrand logic is the same: same device and batch of metallocene polymers, if all indicators meet standards and are labeled as genuine, and a few indicators that slightly miss the line are sub-brands. Common issues with POE sub-brands are slight deviations in melt index, density, and hardness, while core elasticity and toughness indicators are usually still within reasonable ranges.
Four sources: starting and stopping starting and ending materials, grade number transition materials, batches with slight exceedances caused by process fluctuations, and secondary line tailings. They are original metallocene polyolefin particles from the original factory, with molecular structure consistent with the genuine brand.
The boundaries here are even stricter than other materials: POE secondary brands use original metallocene materials; while recycled elastomers, EPDM recirculation, and mixed color elastomers, although soft, have much lower toughening efficiency and compatibility. Some people on the market use other elastomers to pass off as POE secondary brands, but when doing modified toughening and toughening machines, the truth is immediately exposed—they fail to increase toughness and instead drag down flow. For toughening modification, distinguishing the four types of materials is the prerequisite for minimizing losses. For packaging, just focus on large and small packages.
Dow ENGAGE™: The standard in toughening
First, look at Dow. Dow USA, ENGAGE™ is their signature POE, INFUSE™ is a block grade, and it leads global POE production capacity. ENGAGE grades™ cover toughening, film, cable, automotive, and for modified PP/PE toughening. ENGAGE™ is almost the industry's default choice.
ENGAGE's™ sub-brands mostly have melted fingers or batches with slight density deviations. They are suitable for non-demanding toughening modifications, general automotive interior toughening parts, and daily goods toughening. But to make key components like bumpers that require low-temperature shock resistance, the toughening ratio and grade must be correct. Whether the secondary brand can be used requires low-temperature cantilever beam verification first.
ExxonMobilExact™: High flow and low-temperature resistance camp
Look at ExxonMobil again. Exact™ makes ethylene-α olefin copolymers, Vistamaxx™ makes acrylic elastomers, focusing on low temperature resistance, high flow, and high toughening efficiency. For toughening high-flow thin-walled parts and low-temperature impact resistance, Exact™ is a great match.
Exact™ sub-brand is that the grade is close to thin-walled, high-flow scenarios, suitable for modified parts with high flow and medium toughness requirements. Its sub-brand is used for general toughening modification and filling system toughening, offering good cost performance. The key is that the grade matches your substrate and wall thickness; don't use high-melt index sub-brands for parts requiring high strength.
Mitsui TAFMER™: Veteran metallocene brand Seikopai
Looking at Mitsui Chemicals again. Japan's TAFMER™ is a long-standing brand of metallocene polyolefin elastomers, known for toughening, compatibility, and soft tactile parts. Its grading system is fine, clearly distinguished from toughening to soft grades.
TAFMER™ sub-brand, suitable for toughening automotive interiors, soft-touch parts, and toughening modification of non-critical structures. Its quantity isn't as large as Dow's, but the grades are fine and batch quality is stable. Selecting premium sub-brands for non-low-temperature critical parts is very reliable. For key low-temperature impact-resistant automotive exterior parts, don't save on genuine brands.
POE how to choose sub-brands? The toughening
POE toughening from modification factories is for toughening. Whether sub-brands can be used depends on whether your parts can withstand low-temperature impact resistance. Choose a few materials:
First, check if the grade matches the base body. For PP toughening, choose ethylene-octene; for PE toughening, choose compatible copolymer monomers—don't choose the wrong system. Second, check the melt finger and hardness, which match your processing technology and target toughness. Third, verify: when sub-brands arrive at the factory, first test low-temperature cantilever beam/simply supported beam impact, then perform flow and compatibility tests.
Common pitfall: Using recycled elastomer to pass off as POE sub-brand, reducing toughening efficiency by half; If the grade melts the index doesn't match, no matter how much you add, you can't increase toughness; If secondary brands are mixed with other elastomers, compatibility issues arise, surface falters, and performance fluctuations. Anyone doing toughening modification knows that if one batch of material doesn't perform well, the whole batch of modified material needs to be reworked.

5. In-factory testing for low-temperature impact + flow + compatibility verification;

7. Keep samples from sub-brand batches, and ensure the same batch uses all materials.
Changchun has a factory specializing in automotive modified toughening materials, supplying PP modified materials to northern car manufacturers. Previously, to cut costs, we bought a cabinet of cheap "POE toughening sub-brand." In winter, a batch of toughening material arrived at the customer's end, and when it dropped to minus 20 degrees, the parts cracked and became brittle, resulting in a whole batch of returns and losses of nearly 100,000 yuan. Later, we replaced it with selected sub-brands of Dow ENGAGE™ and Mitsui TAFMER™, which were only used for non-low-temperature critical interior toughening. The bumper grade remained the official brand, and the return rate for low-temperature brittle cracking dropped from 8% to 0.3%.
This is the accounting of toughening and modification—POE is a material defined by its catalyst and grade. Using a secondary grade can save money on general parts but cannot save the lifespan of critical low-temperature parts.
