要低吸水、要尺寸稳——先看PA610,别硬上PA6;
工业件要求高——认准巴斯夫、EMS-GRIVORY、杜邦Zytel;
料源——测密度、测熔点,别让PA6/PA66混进来;
粘度熔指——拉丝注塑都看它;
含水率——上机前烘料,表面不起泡;
回料再生料——别当副牌买,分子量已降;
大包装小包装——原厂原包、批号可溯才签;
01 The same grade, the price quote can differ by 30%
The PA610 material is deeper than you think.
If you go to three different suppliers with the same brand, the quotes can differ by 30%. For the one with the lower price, when you ask for a warranty certificate, they might issue one today and a different one tomorrow; the batch numbers don't match, and the test reports seem templated. Yet you still don't dare to refuse them—components like screws and bearings, if the dimensions are even slightly off, will render the assembled product useless.
What’s even worse is that some people modify PA66 or mix in PA6 and sell it as PA610. To outsiders, the pellets look similar, but once you put them in a machine and absorb water, the dimensions all go off. There’s a saying among industrial parts factory owners: buying PA610, you’re not afraid of it being expensive, you’re afraid of paying for PA610 and ending up with a bunch of PA6 material.
This article straightens out the material PA610: how it differs from PA6 and PA66, who holds the global market, and how to choose sub-brands without making mistakes.
02 What is PA610, and how can its size remain stable?
PA610, with the chemical name polyamide 610, is synthesized by the polycondensation of hexamethylenediamine and sebacic acid. Sebacic acid is gradually extracted from castor oil, so more than sixty percent of PA610's raw materials come from renewable resources, which is uncommon in nylon.
The key difference between it and PA6 and PA66 lies in water absorption. The long carbon chains make its amide group density lower, resulting in a much lower water absorption rate than PA6. After absorbing moisture, it shows minimal dimensional changes, maintains good rigidity, and is also oil-resistant, chemically resistant, and tough enough. It is used for industrial brush bristles, fishing lines, ski boots, precision bearings, gears, and oil and gas pipelines.
This market is not large, but the entry barriers are high. According to Dataintelo, PA610 is a highly concentrated niche market, with the top three foreign companies being: Germany's BASF, Switzerland's EMS-GRIVORY, and the U.S.'s DuPont Zytel series (its high-performance nylon business is now under Celanese). DOMO's DOMAMID long-chain nylon is also in the same tier.
03 The secondary plate is not adulterated; the water-absorbing line is fluctuating.
First, let's explain the definition thoroughly. 'Sub-standard products' are the portion from the same manufacturer and the same brand that did not fully meet the standards of the main product during factory inspection. There are four sources: leftover material from the start and end of production runs, transitional material during brand switching, batches where individual indicators slightly exceed the standards due to process fluctuations, and leftover material from secondary production lines.
PA610 secondary brand, the variations are mostly in melting point, viscosity, and moisture content. Here is a key pain point to remember:
The genuine PA610 is so expensive that I'm reluctant to use it for screw bearings. Recycled PA610 absorbs water and its dimensions drift, and once on the machine, all the tolerances go off.
The distinction between regrind, recycled material, and others must be clearly understood. Regrind is made by granulating processing scraps; it has undergone one thermal history, and its molecular weight has already decreased. Recycled material is granulated from waste nylon, and its water absorption and dimensional stability are unpredictable. As for a secondary brand of original PA610, it is still made from virgin polymer pellets, and the long carbon chain's low water absorption foundation remains intact. Using regrind in industrial parts means gambling with dimensional tolerances.
04 BASF: Ultramid, a veteran player in long-chain polymers
Germany's BASF has a nylon brand called Ultramid, with a product line covering long-chain nylons such as PA6, PA66, and PA610. According to Dataintelo, BASF holds a leading position in the PA610 market due to its integrated supply chain and multi-site production capacity.
Its secondary grade characteristics are: slight fluctuations in viscosity or melt index, but the base material's low water absorption and oil resistance remain unchanged. For making industrial structural parts, oil and gas pipelines, and general mechanical components, if you choose the right secondary grade, dimensional stability is reliable.
05 EMS-GRIVORY: Take the castor oil route to the end
Swiss EMS-GRIVORY, PA610 grade is called Grilamid 2S. According to its official website, Grilamid 2S is polymerized from hexamethylene diamine and sebacic acid, with the sebacic acid derived from castor oil. About 60% of the polymer comes from renewable raw materials, and the GreenLine series is its main product.
Its secondary grade, commonly, has viscosity or moisture content fluctuating at the factory's tolerance limit. For making precision parts that require high dimensional stability, bristles, and bearing cages, select carefully from the secondary grade; the low water absorption criterion is non-negotiable.
06 DuPont Zytel: The Technical Origin of Long-Chain Nylon
The Zytel series from DuPont in the United States is a long-established brand in the nylon industry; according to channel information from Biesterfeld and others, its long carbon chain grades such as PA610 and PA610/1010 are now operated by Celanese, but the Zytel brand name remains. DuPont's technological accumulation in long carbon chain nylons is widely recognized in the industry.
Its sub-brands often have slightly different melting points or reinforcement ratios compared to the main brand. When making fiberglass-reinforced structural parts or oil- and chemical-resistant components, selecting the right sub-grade ensures both strength and dimensions are within specifications.
07 Buying a PA610 side card, first figure out whether you are buying a 610 or a 6
PA610 sub-brand acceptance, focus on three things.
First, check the brand and source of the material, measure the density and moisture content, and look at the DSC melting point. Don’t let PA6 or PA66 sneak in disguised. Then check the viscosity and melt flow index. Long-chain nylons are sensitive to viscosity, and any fluctuation can affect both spinning and injection molding. Finally, check the original factory packaging. Both large and small packages are fine, but the batch number and certificate of quality must match.
Common pitfalls are: mixing PA6 with PA66 and selling it as PA610, resulting in dimensional deviations after water absorption; or directly using secondary brands with high moisture content on the machine, causing products to foam and surface blister. Industrial parts compete based on dimensional stability, and moisture absorption is something you can't save on, whether in drying the material or in material selection.

08 Eight-line mnemonic, plus a case from Nanchang
Here's a selection mnemonic that you can follow directly:
Want low water absorption and stable dimensions—look at PA610 first, don't rush to use PA6;
High requirements for industrial parts — choose BASF, EMS-GRIVORY, DuPont Zytel;
Material source — measure density and melting point, don't let PA6/PA66 mix in;
Viscosity melt index—both drawing and injection molding depend on it;
Moisture content — Dry the material before feeding into the machine, no bubbling on the surface;
Recycled material from scraps — don’t buy it as a secondary brand, the molecular weight has already decreased;
Large packaging and small packaging — only original factory packaging with traceable batch numbers can be signed;
Mass production — first test the size with a small sample, keep a sample, then increase the quantity.
There is a customer in Nanchang who manufactures industrial brush bristles and bearings. Previously, they bought an unknown source of 'PA610' to save money. After drawing, as soon as it encountered moisture, the bristle diameter tolerance deviated significantly. After installation, both noise and wear exceeded the standards, and the rework rate for a batch of goods reached 15%.
Later, we switched to the selected subsidiary brand of PA610 from a major imported manufacturer. The measured moisture content and viscosity deviated very little from the main brand. After moisture absorption, the dimensional change rate was kept within specifications. The tolerances for bristles and bearings were stabilized in one go, bringing the rework rate down to below 0.5%, and the cost per ton of material was also significantly reduced.
