"Boss, the sealing rings I produced from this batch of TPE crack in winter. Is it a material issue or a craftsmanship issue?" "The purchaser on the other end of the phone is very anxious. I asked him to send the pellets over and checked. The hardness rating is rated at Shaw Brother 70A, but the actual measured hardness is less than 65A, which seriously exceeds the oil coating standard. In the TPE business, hardness differs by five degrees, and sealing rings go from "usable" to "leaky." TPE sub-brands have a lot of issues; today I'll explain everything thoroughly.
Today, I'll thoroughly explain the sub-label secrets of three leading domestic TPE companies: Dawn Shares, Kingfa Technology, and CGN Juner. What is
TPE? Domestically, the modified blending route
TPE a general term for thermoplastic elastomers, which are elastic like rubber at room temperature and can be molded by injection molding like plastic when heated, without vulcanization. Domestically, TPE is mostly a mixture made by modifying elastomers like SEBS and SBS with PP and white oil blends, used in automotive seals, appliance handles, cable sheaths, toothbrush grips, and soft rubber toys. Unlike PEEK, it relies on polymerization but on modified formulations, so the leading domestic companies are mostly modified compound manufacturers.
Among domestic TPE/thermoplastic elastomer leading companies, Dawn Co. is a specialized benchmark, with an annual thermoplastic elastomer production capacity of about 90,000 tons. In 2006, it established China's first independent TPV production line; Kingfa Technology is the carrier of modified plastics, with a total capacity of over 3 million tons. TPE is just one part of its vast product matrix, but its scale and customer coverage are among the top; CGN Jun'er is backed by CGN Group, giving it differentiated advantages in flame-retardant engineering plastics and high-temperature resistant TPE. Additionally, Zhejiang Zhongcheng and Jiangsu Bote are also important TPE capacities.
TPE sub-brand: hardness and oil filling are the lifeblood
TPE sub-brand, and is the batch with slight deviations in indicators within the same formulation system of the modified plant. For TPE, the most common differences in sub-brands are concentrated in four areas: hardness drift, low tensile strength, excessive oil filling, and melting index fluctuations.
Why are these key factors? Eighty percent of TPE products rely on hardness to determine performance. Seals need a certain hardness to have resilience, and the rubber handle must be moderately soft. If the amount of oil is too high, the product will release oil, become sticky, and harden at low temperatures; If the stretch is low, it will break easily. All these are made by fine-tuning the formula ratio; the secondary brand is the amount added or decreased in a certain batch.
Difference from recycled TPE: recycled TPE is the product crushed and pelletized, losing elasticity and aging resistance, resulting in surface fogging; TPE secondary brand is original mixed pellets, with only slight deviations in hardness or oil content. For automotive seals, using sub-brand means "hardness difference by a few degrees," while recycled material means "hardening and leaking after half a year."
Dawn Co., Ltd.: Domestic benchmark for TPE/TPV specialization
Dawn Co., Ltd. is headquartered in Longkou, Shandong, and is one of the few listed companies in China that treats thermoplastic elastomers as its main business. Its annual thermoplastic elastomer production capacity is about 90,000 tons, with a particularly strong TPV (Dynamic Vulcanization) product line, and the country's first independent TPV line originating from here. Its downstream coverage includes automotive seals, new energy coolant pipelines, home appliances, cables, and more. The characteristics of
Dawn's sub-brand materials are: mature TPV and TPE formulations, with precise hardness control in batches; It also purchases upstream EPDM units for raw material self-supply, ensuring good consistency in blending and blending; The sub-brand mainly features slight hardness fluctuations, suitable for non-critical automotive seals, home appliance soft rubber parts, and cable sheaths.
Applicable scenarios: automotive sealing strips, new energy pipelines, home appliance handles, cable sheaths, soft rubber coatings.
Kingfa Technology: The TPE pole in the modified aircraft carrier
Kingfa Technology is in Guangzhou and one of the largest modified plastics enterprises in China, with an annual capacity of over 3 million tons of modified plastics. Its TPE/TPV product line covers automotive, home appliances, power tools, and other fields, backed by a large modification technology platform with rapid formulation iteration. The characteristics of
Kingfa's sub-brand materials are: a complete formulation system, covering both soft and hard TPEs; Many customers for automobiles and home appliances, with sub-brands mostly coming from mass production grade switching; Stable quality but due to large volumes, sub-brand batches require batch by batch to confirm hardness. Suitable for automotive interior soft rubber parts, home appliance rubber coating, and daily products.
Applicable scenarios: automotive interior soft rubber, power tool handles, home appliance rubber coating, daily necessities, toys.
CGN Jun'er: Differentiated Path in Flame-Retardant High-Temperature Resistant TPE
CGN Jun'er is a modified enterprise based in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, backed by CGN Group. It has differentiated expertise in flame-retardant engineering plastics and high-temperature resistant modified materials. TPE products focus on flame-retardant and temperature-resistant mid-to-high-end sectors, with customers including new energy and electronic appliances.
Jun'er's sub-brand materials are characterized by: flame-retardant TPE and high-temperature resistant TPE specialties have a good reputation; Product positioning is focused on mid-to-high-end products, with relatively small sub-brand volumes; Suitable for cable sheaths and electronic and electrical soft rubber parts with flame-retardant or temperature-resistant requirements.
Applicable scenarios: flame-retardant cable sheaths, electronic and electrical soft rubber parts, new energy seals, high-temperature resistant rubber coatings.
TPE secondary brand pitfall guide
First, hardness must be measured. TPE secondary brand hardness drift is most common; don't trust the nominal value on the packaging bag. When you arrive, use a Shore hardness tester to average out three points.
Second, check the oil fill. Place the pellets on white paper for two days to see if there are oil marks seeping out; Use the oil-discharged secondary brand on seals; it hardens after half a year.
Third, distinguish between TPE and TPV. TPV has better temperature and oil resistance and is more expensive; don't use ordinary TPE secondary brands as TPVs around the engine compartment.
Fourth, do not use secondary brands for food contact and medical products. TPE products with food contact or medical certification requirements must use genuine brands and retain certification; secondary brands are only used for industrial parts.
Cologne warehouse stock | Mixed domestic TPE specifications
Cologne maintains domestic TPE sub-brand stock at the Ningbo warehouse, with main brands covering three leading domestic companies: Dawn Co., Kingfa Technology, and CGN Juner. Main grades cover multiple hardness levels from Shaw Brothers 50A to 90A, with packaging in large and small packaging, and different hardness and uses are mixed according to customer products.
Warehouse stock is usually around 4000 tons: small sub-brand stock is 600-900 tons, boxed sub-brand stock is 250-450 tons, and large bulk materials per ton are 2650-3150 tons.
Supply Assurance with Inspection Order: Each batch of TPE sub-brand material comes with hardness, tensile strength, and oil fill test data; Different hardness levels are stored separately in warehouses, customers report product usage, and Cologne directly matches the appropriate hardness spot batch.
Selection Mnemonics and Case Studies
How to choose domestic TPE sub-brands? Remember these four points: Hardness must be tested upon arrival, oil release is absolutely avoided, TPE and TPV are not mixed, certified parts do not touch sub-brands.
Hefei An injection molding factory specializing in automotive interior soft plastic parts used a genuine imported TPE brand for center console coating, with a high cost per ton. This year, they switched to using the Cologne-supplied Jinfa TPE sub-brand. Upon arrival, hardness was tested first. Shore 85A was tested in the formula window for adhesive adhesion and low-temperature resistance, and after mass production, the defect rate did not increase, reducing raw material costs per ton by nearly 1,400 yuan. The workshop director said: Interior coating is not a key sealing component; it is hard enough and does not leak oil. Customers can't tell the difference when the genuine sub-brand is stamped
