它在发泡型TPU(适合运动鞋中底)和无卤阻燃TPU(5G基站外壳)上技术突出,产品定位中高端。
Let's talk about the industry's hierarchy: those who make transparent phone cases look down on those who make shoe materials, those who make shoe materials look down on those who make pipes, and those who make pipes look down on traders who "dare to accept any TPU." In the end, I found that the TPU sub-brand in the trader's hands was labeled as 95A transparent material, and the case turned yellow after just a week in the sun. TPU is a different application level in terms of hardness, transparency, and hydrolysis resistance. Whether the sub-brand can be used depends first on whose material it is.
Today, I'll thoroughly explain the sub-brand secrets of three leading domestic TPU companies: Wanhua Chemical, Meirui New Materials, and Yinuowei. What is
TPU? Domestic capacity leader
TPU thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers polymerized by diisocyanate and polyol polymerization, characterized by wear resistance, transparency, good resilience, injection molding, and extrusion capability. They are used in shoe materials, films, cable sheaths, pipes, phone cases, rollers, and hoses. TPU is a product that has been thoroughly localized domestically, with large-scale production capacity in both private and state-owned enterprises.
Among domestic TPU leading companies, Wanhua Chemical relies on its own MDI raw materials, ranking among the top in both cost and scale, with an annual TPU capacity of over 100,000 tons; Meirui New Materials is one of the few listed companies in China focused on TPU as its main business. Its Yantai base has a TPU capacity of 100,000 tons, with outstanding foamed TPU and halogen-free flame-retardant TPU technologies; Yinuowei is in Zibo, Shandong, producing both polyether and polyester TPU, with a total polyurethane production capacity of over 900,000 tons, and large volumes of shoe soles and adhesive direction. Huafeng Chemical's TPU is also very large, which will be discussed separately in the broad polyurethane category in this article.
TPU sub-brand: Hardness, transparency, and hydrolysis resistance
TPU sub-brand, which are batches with slight deviations in inspection indicators within the same original grade system. For TPU, the most common differences for sub-brands are four: hardness drift, reduced light transmittance, high yellowing index, and insufficient hydrolysis resistance rating.
Why are these key points? TPU is heavily used in transparent products; poor transparency causes phone cases and films to fog; High yellowing index causes yellowing after a few months of exposure to sunlight; Insufficient hydrolysis resistance; making tubes and underwater parts causes stickiness and breakage within half a year. Polyester TPU is wear-resistant but not hydrolytic-resistant, while polyether type is hydrolyzable but has low hardness. Before choosing a secondary brand, figure out which type you use. Difference between
and recycled TPU: Recycled TPU is made by crushing shoe material and pipes into pellets, with molecular weight already degraded, resulting in reduced strength and transparency; TPU secondary brand uses original factory particles, with only slight deviations in some indicators. For transparent shells, using secondary brands is a matter of "low yellowing enough," while using recycled material is a matter of "transparency."
Wanhua Chemical: A cost-based leader backed by MDI
Wanhua Chemical is a global leader in MDI. TPU is its downstream product line, relying on its own diisocyanate raw materials for strong cost control and scale. Its TPU covers multiple directions including films, shoe materials, pipes, and cables, making it one of the largest domestic TPU shipment companies. The characteristics of
Wanhua sub-brand materials are: self-sourcing of raw materials leads to significant cost advantages and strong sub-brand price competitiveness; Large volumes of film-grade and general injection molding grades, with standardized batch management; Suitable for cost-sensitive and large-batch general products of shoe materials, pipes, and films. Transparent-grade sub-brands must confirm yellowing batch by batch.
Applicable scenarios: shoe materials, pipes, films, cable sheaths, drums, and general injection molded parts.
Meirui New Materials: TPU specialized listed company
Meirui New Materials is one of the few listed companies in China focused on TPU as its main business, with a TPU production capacity of 100,000 tons at the Yantai base. It excels in foamed TPU (suitable for sports shoe midsoles) and halogen-free flame-retardant TPU (5G base station housing), with products positioned in the mid-to-high-end.
Meirui secondary brand materials are characterized by: special function TPU has a good reputation, with technical barriers between foamed and flame-retardant grades; Product batch consistency is good; Secondary brands mostly come from mid-to-high-end grades with slight fluctuations, suitable for mid-to-high-end applications such as shoe midsoles, flame-retardant electronic components, and films. For transparent and flame-retardant secondary brands, check the inspection report with the goods.
Applicable scenarios: sports shoe midsoles, 5G flame-retardant shells, films, tubes, wear-resistant parts.
Yinuowei: A large-scale enterprise specializing in dual-route polyether polyester
Yinuowei is located in Zibo, Shandong, owning two TPU routes: polyether and polyester. The total polyurethane production capacity exceeds 900,000 tons, covering shoe soles, adhesives, inks, and rubber rollers, with operating rates consistently high. The characteristics of
Yinuowei's sub-brand materials are: both polyether and polyester, allowing customers to supply everything in one place; Large quantities of sole and adhesive grade TPU are available at affordable prices; Secondary brands mainly experience slight fluctuations in hardness and viscosity, suitable for non-transparent and non-high-certification products such as soles, rubber rollers, and adhesives. Use transparent parts with caution.
Applicable scenarios: shoe soles, rubber rollers, adhesives, ink, ordinary injection-molded parts.
TPU secondary brand pitfall guide
First, first distinguish between polyester type and polyether type. Polyester is wear-resistant but not hydrolyzable, polyether is hydrolyzable but relatively soft; if used incorrectly, underwater parts will fail within half a year.
Second, yellowing must be tested for transparent parts. Transparent TPU secondary brands must undergo UV aging; if yellowing exceeds the standard, do not use transparent shells or films.
Third, hardness must be measured. TPU hardness ranges widely from 60A to 85D, and it's common to see a few degrees difference between the nominal value and actual value. Hardness is checked upon arrival.
Fourth, use secondary brands for food grade and medical grade. TPU products with food contact or medical certification must be genuine brands; secondary brands are only used for industrial and general consumer goods.
Cologne Warehouse Stock | Large quantities of domestic TPU always in stock
Cologne keeps domestic TPU sub-brand stock in Ningbo warehouses, with main brands covering three leading domestic companies: Wanhua Chemical, Meirui New Materials, and Yinuowei. Main grades cover common models for footwear grade, film grade, cable grade, and flame retardant grade. Packaging is divided into large and small packaging, with polyether and polyester types stocked separately.
warehouse stock is usually 3000-6000 tons: small sub-brand stocks 500-800 tons, boxed sub-brand stocks 200-400 tons, large packs/ton stocks 2500-4800 tons.
Supply guarantees direct sourcing from original factory and packaging: Cologne directly connects channels with three leading companies, TPU sub-brand material retains original factory package markings, no unpacking or mixed batches; Customers report hardness and usage, Cologne matches stock from original batch packaging, yellowing and hardness indicators can be checked as needed.
Selection Mnemonics and Cases
How to choose domestic TPU sub-brand? Remember these four points: first separate polyester and polyether, test for yellowing of transparent parts, test hardness upon arrival, and ensure certified parts don't touch the secondary brand.
Wuhu is a factory specializing in sports shoe midsoles, which used to use a certain imported genuine brand of foamed TPU, and the cost per ton couldn't be reduced. This year, they switched to using the sub-brand of Meirui New Materials foamed TPU supplied by Cologne. They first tested the foaming rate and rebound rate with half a ton. The foam hole structure and rebound rate were within the original formula's range. After mass production, the feel and rebound of the midsole were good, and the cost per ton of raw material dropped by nearly 2,300 yuan. The factory director said: The midsole of sports shoes doesn't use transparent shells, so the rebound is sufficient and the foam is stable. There's no need to force the premium of imported genuine brands
