PCTG副牌,高透明耐热容器那一关,为什么只认这三家国外大厂?

The light transmittance of the same grade PCTG sub-brand often fluctuates by one or two points around 90%, the heat distortion temperature differs by less than 5°C, and the molecular framework and genuine plate are not replaced.

Nearly 40% of highly transparent plates are held by a US factory

Here's a figure: For the global amorphous copolyester plate, Eastman alone accounts for nearly 40%. The drop-resistant, dishwasher-safe, BPA-free water cup you have is most likely related to Tritan.

But the genuine Tritan is expensive—so much so that many factories making transparent containers and packaging can only use PET hard as a hard shell—PET softens when exposed to hot water, but can't withstand hot drink cups or baby utensils at all. The gap in between is where the PCTG secondary brand is located. This article explains it clearly. What is

PCTG:

PCTG it "stifles" PET crystals , scientifically named polyterephthalate cyclohexanedimethanol, an amorphous copolyester. To put it plainly: it is related to PET, but it contains CHDM (cyclohexanedimethanol) in its molecules, which kills the crystals, making it translucent and tough, chemical-resistant, water-resistant, and disinfectable. At the high-end level, Eastman's Tritan uses TMCBD (tetramethylcyclobutylene glycol), which is heat-resistant and completely BPA-free.

What can it do? Transparent water cups, baby utensils, food containers, cosmetic packaging, transparent medical devices—wherever you want to be "transparent, tough, heat-resistant, and BPA-free," you can find it.

Globally, only three companies are leading this industry: Tritan™ and Eastar™ from Eastman in the US are the leaders, with nearly 40% market share in China; SK Chem's SKYGREEN® and ECOZEN™ from Korea are second, just over 20%; Selenis (M&G succession system) from Italy follows with the Selekt™ series. Domestic materials are still catching up. Let's talk by tier.

Secondary Card Knowledge: Focus on light transmission, yellowness, and IV value

PCTG secondary cards, still following the same logic. If the same manufacturer and grade are polymerized, and any item in the factory inspection for light transmittance, hue, or viscosity doesn't fully meet the line, it's a secondary brand. There are four main sources: starting and stopping the starting and tail materials, switching grades as transition materials, process fluctuation batches, and secondary line scraps.

It's still original factory native particles, with an amorphous structure identical to the genuine brand, except that some indicators have slightly fluctuated. It's not the same as recycling PCTG—after a thermal cycle, the recycled material loses viscosity and increases yellow, and when made into transparent parts, it becomes foggy and yellow. Boundary table remains as before:

TypeSourceQualityTypical Use
Genuine BrandOriginal Factory Standard BatchFull Indicator Compliant, Batch StableHigh Requirements, Certified Parts
SubbrandOriginal factory substandard batchslight deviations in certain indicators, substrate consistent with genuine brandGeneral parts, color-matched parts, internal parts

PCTG and sub-brands focus on three things: light transmittance, yellowness index, and viscosity (IV value). These three factors determine whether the container you blow through completely, whether it is yellow, and whether the wall thickness is uniform.

Eastman: Tritan is their first brand from

, Eastman USA. PCTG's high-end brand is their Tritan™. Brands like TX1001, TX1800, EX401, EX501—brands like mother and baby tableware and sports cups are all familiar to any factory. Eastar™ is a cost-effective general-purpose product.

Eastman's strengths are BPA-free certification, high heat resistance, and dishwasher durability. When using secondary brands, the light transmittance or yellowness usually fluctuates slightly, but the molecular framework is original. For ordinary transparent containers and daily necessities that aren't required for transparency at the level of mother and baby, Eastman's secondary brand is a safe choice.

SK Chemicals: The second in the cost-performance and bio-based category

is SK Chemicals from Korea. Their SKYGREEN® is a traditional transparent copolyester, while ECOZEN™ is a new generation with bio-based additives, 100°C boiling water resistance, and dishwasher safety. It's widely used by factories for small kitchen appliances, water cups, and food storage containers.

SK Chemical's advantages are cost-effectiveness and bio-based concept, with stable batch production. The secondary brand material is suitable for transparent packaging and cosmetic containers with moderate heat resistance requirements. When choosing their secondary brand, focus on whether the light transmission and heat resistance match your disinfection process.

Selenis: The cost-effective choice for general-purpose sheet packaging

Third company, Italian Selenis. This company is the successor of the original M&G copolyester system, producing the Selekt™ series of amorphous copolyesters, and has a place in packaging and sheet materials.

Its feature is general-grade cost-effectiveness, making it very suitable for hot-formed sheets and transparent packaging containers. Secondary brand materials are suitable for transparent packaging and display boxes that do not directly contact high temperatures. When choosing secondary brands, test viscosity and forming windows well.

Pitfall: Don't skip on hot maternal and baby drinks; ordinary secondary brands are sufficient

PCTG How to choose secondary brands? First, identify the grade of use. For mothers and babies, hot drinks, and disinfectants, don't skimp on that little money; For regular temperature transparent parts, the secondary brand is sufficient.

Second, monitor light transmittance and yellowness. Customers can spot misty or yellow parts at a glance. Third, measure the IV value. If viscosity is incorrect, the blow mold wall thickness is uneven, and injection molding may also have issues.

Fourth, identify the manufacturer. Eastman, SK Chemical, and Selenis have sub-brands that are original factory materials; avoid unfamiliar "copolyester alternatives." Fifth, only ask about large and small packaging packaging. Large packaging is used for mass production blow molding injection molding, small packaging is sampled.

Selection Formula A case for a Xi'an transparent container factory

Tip:

1. BPA-free, heat-resistant, disinfectable — Eastman Tritan;

2. Cost-effective and bio-based — SK Chemical SKYGREEN/Ecozen;

3. Universal transparent sheet packaging — Selenis;

4. Measure light transmittance, yellowness, and IV value before entering the factory;

5. Mother and baby hot beverage parts — use the official standard, don't save money;

6. Ordinary transparent containers — secondary brands are sufficient;

7. For mass production, choose large packaging; for samples, choose small packaging.

Xi'an's client who makes transparent food containers. Previously, to cut costs, they used regular PET hardtop transparent containers, but as soon as they were microwaved, they deformed and shrank, resulting in a return rate of 9%. Later, they switched to Eastman sub-brands of the same grade. Light transmittance and yellowness were tested before signing upon arrival. Microwave deformation and transparency were done in one go, with return rates dropping to 0.4% and yield rates returning to 96%.

Materials cost over a thousand yuan per ton, but the money saved after a year of after-sales service multiplied several times. This is the value of product selection—transparent heat resistance, and the mistake is losing after-sales compensation. Ningbo Kelong New Materials Co., Ltd. has long been a sub-brand supplier for major imported manufacturers, handling many cases related to packaging and transparent containers. Simply put, it's about helping you get the issue of 'permeability and heat stability' in place before mass production.
