做可降解材料这行,有条心照不宣的鄙视链:做PBAT膜的看不起做PLA注塑的,做PLA注塑的看不起纯淀粉填充的。但有意思的是,每年因为“降解”俩字翻车翻得最凶的,恰恰是被捧上天的PLA。一次性餐具做出来,一装热汤就软、一进堆肥就不烂、一捏就脆——问题不在PLA不行,在你买到的PLA副牌,离正牌差的到底是结晶度,还是干脆掺了别的料。
PLA,是从玉米里长出来的塑料
PLA叫聚乳酸,是玉米淀粉发酵成乳酸、再聚合成的生物基可降解塑料。它透明、挺括、可堆肥,做一次性餐具、餐盒、吸管特别上镜。但它也有脾气:脆、耐热差,装个七八十度的汤就容易变形,结晶慢、加工窗口窄。说白了,它是个“看着环保、用起来挑活”的料。正牌PLA不便宜,做一次性餐具的利润又薄,副牌那一档,自然就成了很多厂的必争之地。
PLA副牌,先把回料这道线划清
PLA副牌的来历,逻辑通用于整个系列:同一厂家、同一牌号的原生聚合粒子里,出厂检验没完全达正牌标的那一档,来源还是开停车头尾料、换牌号过渡料、工艺波动致个别指标(分子量、结晶度、透光)小幅超标的批次、副线尾料。它是原生料,分子链没断。但PLA有个特殊坑——它最怕二次热历史,所以跟回料、再生料的边界尤其要划清:

全球前三国外厂,攥着大半江山
按产能份额口径,国外PLA是双寡头带长尾。NatureWorks(美国,嘉吉Cargill旗下,品牌Ingeo)年产能约15万到18万吨、份额约三成上下,常年居前;TotalEnergies Corbion(道达尔能源科碧恩,品牌Luminy)在泰国曼谷有约7.5万吨产能、并在法国扩产,份额约两成出头;第三梯队是日本三菱化学等,量小但牌号专。国内海正、金丹这些是大陆厂商,不在我们这篇讨论范围。数据分歧处按梯队摆。
NatureWorks:Ingeo的老大哥
NatureWorks的Ingeo,是PLA里辨识度很高的牌子,注塑级、片材级、纤维级都齐。它的副牌,常见偏差在分子量和结晶速率上——做非透明件、做配色餐具、做一般一次性制品的厂最喜欢,因为这些件不要求高透,对加工流动性更敏感。要上高透餐具、要堆肥认证的,还是正牌。大包装小包装都有。
TotalEnergies Corbion:Luminy的耐热牌
道达尔科碧恩的Luminy,强项在耐热级和立构复合晶PLA,能扛更高温度。它的副牌,多落在色泽或某批分子量上。做需要稍微耐热一点的餐盒、做餐具壁厚件的厂,拿这种副牌试料,比正牌省一截,热变形底子却比普通PLA强。
三菱化学:日系的细分牌号
三菱化学在PLA上走细分,做几个针对薄膜和纤维的牌号,量不大。它的副牌流出少、更碎。碰到这种料,一样要核对是原厂、哪个牌号、差在哪项——PLA这个品类,掺假和掺回料的传闻一直没断过,认厂比认价重要。
做餐具,别把“降解”俩字当护身符
避坑要点:一、看分子量和结晶速率这两项,脆不脆、变形不变形全在这;二、要堆肥认证的件用正牌,普通一次性制品再谈副牌;三、警惕掺了廉价填充或回料的“PLA副牌”,真PLA烧起来是纸香、不冒黑烟;四、批次留样,餐具是入口的东西,色差和脆性拼一起就是客诉。包装照旧,认化验单不认袋。

In the biodegradable materials industry, there’s an unspoken hierarchy of disdain: those making PBAT films look down on those making PLA injection molding products, and those making PLA injection molding products look down on those using pure starch fillers. Interestingly, each year the products that suffer the most from the word 'degradable' are precisely the PLA products that are highly praised. Disposable tableware made from PLA can get soft when filled with hot soup, fail to decompose properly in compost, or become brittle at the slightest pinch—the problem isn’t that PLA itself is bad, but that the PLA you bought is a sub-brand. The difference from the official brand may be in crystallinity, or perhaps they’ve just mixed in other materials.
PLA is a plastic that comes from corn.
PLA, called polylactic acid, is a bio-based biodegradable plastic made by fermenting corn starch into lactic acid and then polymerizing it. It is transparent, crisp, and compostable, making it especially photogenic for disposable tableware, lunch boxes, and straws. But it also has its quirks: it is brittle, has poor heat resistance, and it easily deforms when holding soup at seventy to eighty degrees Celsius. It crystallizes slowly and has a narrow processing window. In short, it is a material that 'looks eco-friendly but is fussy to use.' Genuine PLA is not cheap, and the profit margin for disposable tableware is thin, so the second-tier brands naturally become a fiercely contested battleground for many factories.
PLA sub-brand, first clarify this line for reclaimed material
The origin of PLA sub-brands follows a logic that applies to the entire series: for the original polymer particles of the same manufacturer and the same grade, those batches that do not fully meet the official standard during factory inspection still come from start and end offcuts during production, transitional batches with changed grades, or batches where individual indicators (molecular weight, crystallinity, transparency) slightly exceed limits due to process fluctuations, or leftover material from secondary lines. It is original material, and the molecular chains are intact. However, PLA has a special pitfall—it is most sensitive to secondary thermal history, so the boundary with recycled or reclaimed materials needs to be particularly clear:

The top three foreign companies in the world hold the majority of the market.
By production capacity share, the foreign PLA market is dominated by two major players with a long tail. NatureWorks (USA, under Cargill, brand Ingeo) has an annual capacity of about 150,000 to 180,000 tons, with a share of around 30%, consistently ranking first; TotalEnergies Corbion (TotalEnergies Corbion, brand Luminy) has about 75,000 tons of capacity in Bangkok, Thailand, and is expanding in France, with a share just above 20%; The third tier includes companies like Mitsubishi Chemical in Japan, which have small volumes but specialized grades. Domestic companies like Haizheng and Jindan are mainland manufacturers and are not within the scope of our discussion here. Where data differs, it is arranged by tier.
NatureWorks: Ingeo's Big Brother
NatureWorks' Ingeo is a highly recognizable brand in PLA, available in injection molding grade, sheet grade, and fiber grade. Its sub-brands commonly differ in molecular weight and crystallization rate—factories making non-transparent parts, colored tableware, or general disposable products prefer them because these items don't require high transparency and are more sensitive to processing flow. For high-transparency tableware or compostable-certified products, the main brand is still used. Both large and small packages are available.
TotalEnergies Corbion: Heat-Resistant Brand at Luminy
Luminy from Total Corbion specializes in heat-resistant grades and stereocomplex PLA, able to withstand higher temperatures. Its sub-brands usually differ in color or certain batches of molecular weight. For factories making slightly more heat-resistant lunch boxes or thicker utensils, trying materials from these sub-brands can save some cost compared to the main brand, while the base heat distortion resistance is still stronger than ordinary PLA.
Mitsubishi Chemical: Japanese Specialty Grades
Mitsubishi Chemical is specializing in PLA, producing a few grades aimed at films and fibers, but the quantities are not large. Its secondary grades are less available and more fragmented. When dealing with such materials, you still need to check the original manufacturer, the specific grade, and what the differences are — in the PLA category, rumors of adulteration and recycled material have never stopped, so knowing the manufacturer is more important than the price.
When making tableware, don't treat the word 'degradable' as a talisman.
Key points to avoid pitfalls: 1. Look at molecular weight and crystallization rate; whether it’s brittle or deforms depends entirely on these; 2. For items that require composting certification, use the genuine brand, and only discuss secondary brands for ordinary disposable products; 3. Watch out for 'PLA secondary brands' mixed with cheap fillers or recycled materials. Real PLA smells like paper when burned and doesn’t emit black smoke; 4. Keep samples from each batch. Tableware is something that goes into the mouth, and differences in color or brittleness can lead to customer complaints. Packaging stays the same: accept test reports, not just the bags.
