1. 问国标码:M,30-11这种代号,拆开看熔指和冲击;
2. 问灰分:A级≤0.5%,B级0.5%到2%,C级超过2%;
3. 问黑点:外观件要求≤3个/10g,多了直接pass;
4. 问纯度:06020001/02/03,数字越小越纯;
5. 问用途:注塑、挤出、高光,熔指得对得上工艺;
6. 问认证:阻燃、汽车、食品接触,要什么拿什么;
Both are called recycled ABS, and one ton can cost 6,000 yuan.
Black mixed color material costs 5,500 per ton, porcelain white high-gloss material costs 11,000 yuan per ton. They look similar when you see them in front of you, but the things you buy are completely different.
Those who make electronic and electrical housings, car interiors, or pallet trash bins all claim to use "recycled ABS." Some use it to replace it with high-end panels, while others can only crush it into a trash bin.
What's the difference? Grade. If you can't tell the grade, you place an order—it's no different from blindly buying goods. This article breaks down the grading system of recycled ABS, so after reading it, you won't be treated like chives.
Recycled ABS doesn't have a unified grade, unlike virgin materials where you can just sign up for PA-757 and know what kind of temperament it is. In the industry, it is graded based on six dimensions: national standard name, A/B/C grade, waste plastic classification code, processing purpose, formula, and special certification.
Knowing all six dimensions is great, but ordinary people only need to grasp two main lines: first, how clean the material is, looking at ash content and black spots; second, what the material can do, looking at melting fingers and impact.
The rest is all about these two criteria. The price difference of 6,000 yuan isn't about hype, it's about the grade.
You need to know how to decipher the national standard code
National standard GB/T 40006.5 gives recycled ABS a set of ID card writing methods. It looks like a foreign book, but when you break it down, there are two sets of numbers.
Fusion Index has five levels: 04, 08, 15, 30, 50; Cantilever beam notch impact has three levels: 07, 09, 11. Together, it's a string of codes, for example, M, 30-11—M is injection molded grade, 30 corresponds to melt index level 30, 11 corresponds to impact grade 11.
For comparison: M, 15-09 are injection molding grade, melt index level 15, impact grade 09. Melt index one level lower, impact level one lower, suitable for thick-walled structural parts, not for thin-walled phone cases. When you see the code, first check whether M is injection molded or extruded, then look at the last two digits to get a good idea.
Think carefully, this string of codes clearly shows its flow performance and drop resistance. Learn to read this code string: if a supplier tries to pass off low-grade material as high-grade material, you'll see right through it—he says this material has a high melting index and is easy to manufacture, but when you see the code only has 07-grade impact, you'll probably be nervous.
By the way, the M in the code name isn't just injection molding; extrusion grade uses E, other uses and other letters. Before ordering, ask suppliers to provide the full code, don't just take a photo of the material bag and decide it. Grade
A, B, and C grades—the difference is not just a letter
In the industry, recycled ABS is divided into three grades: A, B, and C, with the scale for grading being ash content and black spots. Grade
A ash ≤ 0.5%, black spots ≤ 3 per 10g, with cleanliness close to virgin material, suitable for top-new materials used in high-end appliance panels and as carriers for modified masterbatches; Grade B ash content ranges from 0.5% to 2%, used for structural parts and non-appearance parts; Grade C ash content exceeds 2%, with dense black spots, only suitable for pallets, trash bins, and low-end daily necessities.
Speaking with data: Grade A material stretches 38 to 42 MPa, notch impact is 15 to 25 kJ/m², ash content is kept below 0.5%, performance curve follows native ABS; Grade B stretch is 30 to 38 MPa, impact 8 to 15 is sufficient for structural parts; Grade C stretch is 25 to 30 and impact 6 to 10, so don't expect appearance or performance.
One letter difference, a difference of several thousand yuan per ton, completely mismatched application scenarios. Using grade C material for appearance parts isn't about saving money; it's causing trouble for molds and customers.
Conversely, using Grade A materials for trash bins is also wasteful—good materials used in unseen places can't lower costs and even take up goods that should have been sold to appearance customers.
Waste plastic classification codes are another kind of industry
besides national standard naming and ABC grades, there is also a set of GB/T 37547 waste plastic classification codes that govern material purity.
06020001 is Category A, ABS purity ≥99%; 06020002 is Category B, purity 98% to 99%; 06020003 is Category C, purity 95% to 98%. The smaller the number, the purer the material. The density gradually climbs from 1.06 to 1.07, dropping by level.
How do you actually use this code for procurement? Asking suppliers to report 06020001 or 06020002 is much more reliable than saying Grade A material is more reliable. 99% purity and 98% purity, the number of black spots produced by injection molding can be doubled. Friends who do exterior parts must specify the classification code in the contract, not just the four words 'recycled ABS.'
Yuyao has a client who makes router shells. Previously, they received materials from small domestic workshops: one batch had ash content of 1.8%, another 0.4%. The black spots from injection molding fluctuated, and customers returned batches one batch, with a return rate of 8%. Later, Ningbo Kelong New Materials Co., Ltd. directly sourced PIR sprue material from Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and multiple countries. Each batch of raw materials was first sorted for density sorting and ash content testing, with ash content stabilized below 0.3%, black spots controlled below 3 per 10g, grade stable from mixed B grade to A grade, and return rate kept below 0.5%.
To put it bluntly, multi-country direct procurement is not marketing hype; it's about batch control and stable grade—each batch of material passes inspection before it arrives; unqualified materials simply can't enter the pelletizer.
Injection molding to extrude highlight, choosing the wrong use is all for nothing .
Choosing the correct grade still requires matching use. Recycled ABS is divided into four lines by processing method:
injection molding grade melt index 10 to 30, good flowability, used for shells, structural parts, and daily necessities; extrusion grade melt index 1 to 8, melt stretchable for lengthening, used for sheets, pipes, and profiles; high-gloss grade requires low black spot and high gloss, used for home appliance exterior parts and consumer electronics face panels; plating grade requires strict rubber phase content—butadiene must be between 20% and 25%, particle size 0.1 to 0.5 microns for uniform surface etching; butadiene content fluctuates greatly, and very few can be used on plating lines; for decorative parts, prefer spray paint grade, avoid ordinary injection-molded grade hard testing.
If you choose the wrong purpose, no matter how pure the material is, it's still wasted—using the extrusion grade to make thin-walled shells can't even fill the mold; Conversely, using a high melting grade to extrude sheets causes the melt to break as soon as you pull, leaving the surface full of ripples.
So the material selection order is to first decide on the product, then the process, and finally the grade. Don't start by asking about the price per ton—that's the beginning of the sales process being manipulated by sales.
Several special grades, explained in one sentence
Flame retardant grade: UL94 V-0 or V-2, power adapters, routers, and set-top box casings all rely on it, watch out for brominated residues.
Heat Resistant Grade: Heat distortion temperature ≥ 95°C, suitable for microwave and automotive peripheral heat-resistant parts, does not collapse at 95°C.
Automotive Grade: Requires IATF 16949 plus IMDS traceability and low VOC for instrument panel frames, door panels, interior trim, and column trim.
Food Contact Grade: Requires FDA 21 CFR separate certification, very high threshold, recycled ABS can pass, very rare, don't make promises lightly.
High Impact Resistance: Notch impact ≥ 15 kJ/m², suitable for trolley bags, sports protective gear, and outdoor items at minus 20 to 30 degrees Celsius.
Final note: Level 7 material selection tips
1. Ask about national standard codes: M, 30-11, etc. Break down to check melting fingers and impact;
2. Ask about ash content: Grade A ≤0.5%, Grade B 0.5% to 2%, Grade C over 2%;
3. Ask about black spots: Appearance parts require ≤ 3 pieces per 10g; if you have more, just pass;
4. Ask about purity: 06020001/02/03, the smaller the number, the purer the form;
5. Ask about usage: injection molding, extrusion, highlighting; melting fingers must match the process;
6. Ask about certification: Flame retardant, automotive, food contact—take whatever you want;
7. Ask about batch: Can you provide test reports for each batch? If you don't dare to give one, be cautious
In conclusion: The grade of recycled ABS essentially reflects the pricing based on the purity and compatibility of the processing. Ningbo Cologne New Materials Co., Ltd. has been engaged in grading and modifying recycled ABS for many years. Their material sources are directly procured from multiple Southeast Asian countries, with controllable batches and stable grades. Simply put, they help you find the grade that truly suits you among the dazzling variety of options.
