ASA, scientific name: acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate copolymer. It is a sibling of ABS, but underwent a key surgery: replacing the butadiene rubber in ABS with acrylic rubber.
The double bond in the butadiene molecular chain is a living target for UV and oxygen; once exposed to sunlight, the chain breaks and turns yellow. Acrylate doesn't have this weakness; its weather resistance is directly upgraded. So ASA's exterior parts don't look yellow after years of outdoor use.
Its work is very focused: automotive exterior parts—rearview mirror housings, cooling grilles, triangular trim panels, wheel arches; then outdoor equipment, villa blinds, courtyard furniture, air conditioner outdoor unit panels.
