Old Wu opened a precision injection molding factory in Dongguan, specializing in perfume bottle caps and golf ball shells. Last month, an overseas client canceled an entire order. The batch of Dow Surlyn 8940, Surlyn 8920, and several bags of 1652 in the warehouse slept on the tray for more than half a year. Because the air conditioning in the workshop was a bit damp, the pellet surface was dark, and the money on the ledger still had the words "imported material"—in other words, dead money lying on the account.
If an order is canceled, you can take it again; if a customer changes factories, you can look again, but that pile of SURLYN in your warehouse won't just grow out of its own legs and leave.
Obsolete materials aren't assets, they're liabilities lying on the books.
SURLYN this thing, scientifically called ionic polymer, is nothing like ordinary PE. Its molecules contain metal ion bonds, making it elastic, transparent, and a bit sticky to the touch. It's used for perfume bottle caps, golf balls, and high-end shoes, and its unit price is much higher than ordinary materials. But this precious material is delicate—moisture-absorbing material causes water marks and fogging, just like sugar blocks with moisture. If not dried and machine-loaded, the caps will be covered with fine grain. What's worse is that 8940, 8920, and 1652 have much different uses. If mixed, the bottle caps won't transmit light or feel right. If you don't understand grading, mix scraps and original raw material in one bag, and the seller will give you the standard price at a glance, selling the good material at a junk price.
SURLYN sitting there won't appreciate in value; it will only slowly absorb moisture, lose value, and drop.
Let me tell the truth: Old Wu once found a scrap goods dealer who drove a small truck over, circled the warehouse twice, and immediately said, "Your material is dark, has water marks, and scraps are mixed in. I'll calculate the wholesale price for you." Old Wu thought he could quickly make room and agreed. But after weighing, the other party started picking bags again—this bag was dirty, that had worn labels, and they would cut a few hundred more per ton. Old Wu felt like he was bleeding, but the goods were loaded, what else could he do?
The wholesaler's calculations were even more precise than your accountant's—picking out good materials and charging them as inferior goods, returning trendy goods by shipping fees. Pinpin, what they make isn't from scrap material, it's money you don't know about the trade.
The vendor's quotation list is like a weather forecast—just glance at it before you leave, don't take it seriously.
Cologne New Materials follows a terminal digestion approach for SURLYN recycling, not relying on resale to make a price difference. Mainstream grades like Surlyn 8940, 8920, 1652 are still used by downstream factory for bottle caps, shoe materials, and transparent parts. After grading and picking in, they are taken away directly without inventory pressure. We don't pick out batches of miscellaneous, slightly darkened, or excess scraps—they go into Cologne's own modified formula and digest it, just like mixing Chinese medicine. This flavor is a bit more elastic, and another ingredient is enough to make up for it.
Pricing isn't one-size-fits-all. By grade, transparent grade, appearance, moisture absorption, grading, we offer good prices for original new materials, and for darkened edges, we accept modified grades, with price differences displayed on the table. Plus, with our own production capacity and long-term customers as a backup, our quotes don't fluctuate wildly. When others go up, they chase after you; when prices drop, we ignore their calls. We still get what we deserve.
Good materials aren't afraid of not being picked up; what they fear is selling good materials as waste.
The five-step cooperation process: material reporting, grading and evaluation, on-site receipt, deducting payment, settlement and invoice. Old Wu's batch of materials went like this—he took a few photos and sent them with grades and about two tons. After we appraised and quoted a price, we arranged a time for on-site weighing. After the goods were brought back, the recycling payments were directly offset by his purchase of KONICE modified plastics the following month, about half of the total. So the warehouse was cleared, cash was returned, and new materials arrived at the factory. After the trip, he told me he should have handled it two years earlier.
The essence of recycling isn't selling scrap, but turning dead money into living money.
Recyclable SURLYN covers mainstream dissociative grades like Dow (formerly DuPont) Surlyn 8940, 8920, 1652, and other brands like Mitsui Hi-milan based on physical appraisal. In terms of form, we collect: stagnant original packaging (whole bags or loose bags are fine), bottle cap/sprue material for sprue materials, gate material, scrap material, defective transparent parts, and inventory scraps. Raw materials and scraps are quoted separately, and transparent grades are priced even higher separately.
Three common misconceptions, a reminder for you—
"Is recycling just selling cheaply?" "The truth is that quality and grade are sold; good materials can be sold at good prices, and mixed materials get underpriced."
"Waiting for prices to rise?" "The truth is that SURLYN just keeps moisture absorbed, loses in price, and offcuts are even less likely to be mixed in."
"Who bids higher and sells to whom?" "The truth is that when you get it, you bargain, weigh, and delay payments, so comparing prices to the three companies actually results in losses."
