买再生ABS,心里打鼓的是什么?不是强度不够,是放了半年黄得像老照片,客户当场退货。
你花高价买了"瓷白高光料",注塑出来白得发亮,仓库搁三个月再看,已经黄得发闷;刚测的冲击18 kJ/m²,半年后掉到12,冬天一磕就裂。
更扎心的是,新件做出来验得好好的,客户装机放俩月,色差、气味、脆裂全来了。
这篇不堆参数,只讲怎么用参数避开黄变和冲击衰减这两颗雷,让你下单前心里有本明白账。
再生ABS的国标底线是:拉伸强度≥30 MPa、悬臂梁缺口冲击≥6 kJ/m²、灰分≤5%。这是及格线,过了线才叫合格品。
好一点的A级料能做到拉伸38到42 MPa、冲击15到25 kJ/m²,性能曲线已经贴着原生ABS走。
但再生料天生有两个短板绕不开:一个是黄变,一个是冲击衰减。这俩不解决,料再便宜也是给客户埋雷。
黄变不是玄学,是丁二烯在自燃
ABS里的丁二烯橡胶相带双键,回收过程中多次受热受氧,双键被氧化,生成共轭羰基发色团。
这些发色团专挑400到500纳米波段吸收蓝光,肉眼看就是发黄,b*值一路往上窜。新料b*一般在3到5,放半年可能窜到12以上,做白色家电件的客户对b*特别敏感,超过8就拒收。白料放半年黄成旧报纸,本质上就是这堆发色团攒多了。
溴系阻燃剂分解出的HBr还会催化这个反应,做阻燃级白料的朋友应该深有体会,阻燃料黄得比普通料快。有机锡稳定剂、抗氧剂氧化生成的醌类,也会凑热闹加深黄变。
你要是做白色家电件,新件验的时候白得发亮,三个月后客户拿来一比,黄了两个色号,整批拒收——这不是客户刁难,是发色团在你看不见的地方攒数据。
解药也不复杂:抗黄变剂加TiO2遮盖,再控制再生次数,别让同一段料来回再生四五次。
冲击掉得比股票还快
丁二烯相降解是典型的三模态失效:橡胶相氧化变脆、橡胶和SAN基体界面脱粘、边界空穴成核,裂纹顺着空穴一路跑。打个比方,这就像老化的橡皮筋——先是表层发脆,跟着和基体脱开,再到边界到处是小空穴,裂纹一口气跑到底,冲击就垮了。
量化一下:刚造出来冲击掉8%到12%不算稀奇,高温高湿搁半年,冲击衰减35%以上都有可能。你买的时候测的是新料,客户装机用的是半年后的老料,中间差的就是这段衰减。
更狠的是,拉伸强度也跟着掉10%到15%,维卡软化点往下挪10度,冬天低温环境一叠,整批件脆得像苏打饼干。未改性的PCR-ABS冲击保留率一般在80%到92%,配方调得好能回到原生料水平,调不好就是赌运气。
所以做汽车件、做户外件的,别光看新料测试报告,让供应商给一份老化后的冲击保留率数据,那才是半年后客户手里的真实性能。

颜色是再生ABS的第二张脸
再生ABS的颜色,就是一张定价表。
黑色用量占大头,遮盖力强,杂质和黄变全给你盖住,成本也低,电子电器外壳、汽车内饰都靠它;白色和瓷白比黑色贵1000到3000块一吨,旺季甚至能到3000以上,要硬扛黄变,白度要求高,做家电外观件、消费电子面壳;本色料干净度高、没染过色,能二次配色,做高端改性母粒载体,价格比白料还高一截;杂色料定位低端,做托盘、垃圾桶、低端日用品,一吨也就五六千。
浅色件配色要加大量TiO2遮盖黄变,一吨料多加30到80公斤钛白粉,光这笔成本就上千,再加上螺杆磨损和换色清机,这就是白料为什么贵一千到三千的原因。
所以行里有句话:黑色料随便造,白色料要养着。做白件的客户,光配色成本就比黑件高出一大截,采购时别只比料价,把配色和损耗算进去才是真账。
灰色是中间路线,成本中等,做结构件和非外观件够用;蓝、红、黄这些定制色,要单独配色,换批次还得重新调,量小的客户慎选。
气味和VOC,开箱那一刻决定生死
再生ABS的气味,是隐藏的退货杀手。
丁二烯降解出醛酮小分子,残留添加剂、表面油污汗渍没清干净,一开箱就是一股味,注塑车间都能闻到。
特别是从海外进来的料,海运捂一个月,再闷在仓库里,小分子全被锁在颗粒里,开机一烘全释放出来,车间那股味能冲人一个跟头。
做汽车内饰件,气味等级要求≤3.0级,差一点客户就拒收;做家电面板,闷在密闭空间里那股味更明显。
气味等级从5级压到3级,不是喷点香精就行——先在挤出阶段加真空脱挥装置把醛酮小分子抽走,再配除味剂中和残留,接着深度除杂把油污汗渍清掉,三道工序下来气味才能稳在3级以内。验货时别光看外观,开袋闻一下,能帮你挡掉一半的坑。
四个改性方向,各管一段
抗黄变改性:加抗氧剂和紫外线吸收剂,做白色、浅色家电外观件,b*值半年波动压在3以内。
增韧改性:补橡胶相或加弹性体,把掉下去的冲击拉回原生料水平,做低温户外件和薄壁壳。
除味改性:脱挥工艺加除味剂,做汽车内饰、低VOC家电件,气味等级稳在3级。
配色母粒:白度、黑度、灰阶稳定,同批色差ΔE控制在1.5以内,换批次不用重新调色。

Buying recycled ABS, what's making you nervous? It's not because the strength isn't strong enough, but because after half a year it's yellowed like an old photo, the customer returns it on the spot.
You paid a high price for 'porcelain white high-gloss material', and the injection molding turns out shiny white. After three months in the warehouse, it's already yellowed and stuffy; The impact test was just 18 kJ/m², dropped to 12 six months later, and cracked at the slightest hit in winter.
What's even more painful is that the new part tested perfectly after being made, but after two months of installation, color differences, odor, and cracking all appeared.
This article won't pile up specs, just how to use them to avoid yellowing and impact attenuation, so you have a clear plan before ordering.
The national standard bottom line for recycled ABS is: tensile strength ≥30 MPa, cantilever gap impact ≥6 kJ/m², ash content ≤5%. This is the passing line; only products that meet the threshold are considered qualified.
A better grade A material can achieve tensile strength of 38 to 42 MPa and impact of 15 to 25 kJ/m², so its performance curve is already aligned with native ABS.
But recycled material naturally has two unavoidable shortcomings: yellowing and impact attenuation. If these two are not addressed, no matter how cheap the material is, it will still leave customers with a mine.
Yellowing isn't mystical; it's the butadiene rubber in the self-igniting
ABS with double bonds. During recovery, it is repeatedly heated and oxygenated, oxidizing the bonds and forming conjugated carbonyl chromophores.
These chromophores specifically absorb blue light in the 400 to 500 nanometer band, which visibly turns yellow, with the b* value constantly rising. New material b* is usually between 3 and 5, but after half a year, it may spike above 12. Customers making white appliances are especially sensitive to b*—anything above 8 is rejected. White material turns yellow like old newspapers after half a year, which essentially means too many chromophores have accumulated.
The breakdown of brominated flame retardants produces HBr that catalyzes this reaction. Friends working with flame-retardant grade white materials should know this well: the anti-sulfur fuel turns yellow faster than ordinary materials. Quinones produced by oxidation of organotin stabilizers and antioxidants also join the crowd to deepen yellowing.
If you make white appliances and new ones look shiny when inspected, three months later the customer brings them back, shows two yellow shades, and rejects the whole batch—this isn't the customer making things difficult, but the color groups are collecting data where you can't see them.
The remedy isn't complicated: anti-yellowing agents add TiO2 to mask, then control the number of regeneration cycles. Don't let the same batch regenerate four or five times.
Impact falls off faster than stocks
butadiene phase degradation is a typical three-mode failure: rubber phase oxidation and brittleness, debonding at the interface between rubber and SAN matrix, nucleation of boundary holes, and cracks running along the holes. To use an analogy, it's like an aging rubber band—first the surface becomes brittle, then it separates from the matrix, then small voids appear everywhere at the boundary, cracks run all the way down, and impact collapses.
Quantify: It's not unusual for the first batch to lose 8% to 12% impact, but after half a year of high temperature and high humidity, impact attenuation can exceed 35%. When you buy, you test new material, but the customer uses old material from six months old. The difference is this stage of attenuation.
What's even worse is that tensile strength drops by 10% to 15%, and the Vicat softening point is shifted down by 10 degrees. In cold winter conditions, the whole batch is as brittle as soda crackers. Unmodified PCR-ABS impact retention rates are generally between 80% and 92%. If the formula is set well, it can return to the original material level; if not, it's just a matter of luck.
So for automotive or outdoor parts, don't just look at new material test reports; ask suppliers to provide aging impact retention data—that's the real performance customers will have six months later.
Cixi has a factory that makes white hair dryer casings. Previously, they used local miscellaneous materials, but new pieces turned shiny white, yellow like old newspapers after half a year, and the notch impact dropped from 16 to 9. Color is the second face of recycled ABS
The color of recycled ABS is basically a pricing list.
Black accounts for the majority, has strong coverage, covers all impurities and yellowing for you, and is low-cost. Electronic appliance shells and car interiors all rely on it; White and porcelain white cost 1000 to 3000 yuan per ton more than black, and during peak seasons can even exceed 3000 yuan. To withstand yellowing, high whiteness is required, suitable for home appliance exterior parts and consumer electronics face covers; This pigment is highly clean, unstained, can be recolored, used as a high-end modified masterbatch carrier, and is priced higher than white; Mixed colored materials are positioned as low-end; for pallets, trash bins, and low-end daily necessities, a ton costs only five to six thousand.
Light-colored parts require a large amount of TiO2 to cover yellowing; one ton of material adds 30 to 80 kilograms of titanium dioxide, which alone costs over a thousand. Add screw wear and color change cleaning machines, which is why white materials cost 1,000 to 3,000 yuan.
So there's a saying in the industry: black materials can be made freely, but white materials need to be maintained. For customers doing white goods, the cost of color matching alone is much higher than for black parts. When purchasing, don't just compare material prices; the real deal is to factor in color matching and loss.
Gray is the middle route, with moderate costs, sufficient for structural and non-appearance parts; Custom colors like blue, red, and yellow require separate color combinations and remixing when changing batches. Customers with small quantities should be cautious.
Odor and VOCs determine life or death the moment of unboxing
The smell of recycled ABS is a hidden return killer.
Butadiene degrades into small aldehyde and ketone molecules, leaving residual additives and surface oil stains and sweat stains that are not cleaned thoroughly. As soon as the box opens, a strong odor is detected even in the injection molding workshop.
Especially for materials imported from overseas, if stored in the warehouse for a month, small molecules are locked inside pellets. Once the machine is turned on and the dryer is blown, all the scent is released, and the workshop odor can make people fall over.
For automotive interior parts, the odor level requirement is ≤ 3.0—if you almost refuse to accept it, the customer would refuse; For home appliance panels, the smell is even more pronounced when kept in a sealed space.
Reduce the odor level from level 5 to level 3—it's not just about spraying fragrance—first, during the extrusion stage, a vacuum devolcanization device is added to remove small aldehydes and ketones molecules, then a deodorizer neutralizes the residue, followed by deep impurity removal to remove oil stains and sweat stains. After these three steps, the odor can stay within level 3. When inspecting goods, don't just look at the appearance—opening the bag and smelling it can help you avoid half the pitfall.
Four modification directions, each pipe section
Anti-yellowing modification: Add antioxidants and UV absorbers to make white and light-colored home appliance exterior parts, with b* value fluctuating within 3 for half a year.
Toughening modification: Supplement rubber phase or add elastomer to pull the impact back to the original material level, making low-temperature outdoor parts and thin-walled shells.
Odor removal modification: Add deodorizer in the devaporation process, used for automotive interiors and low-VOC home appliance parts, with odor levels stable at level 3.
Color masterbatch: Stable whiteness, blackness, and grayscale; color difference ΔE of the same batch controlled within 1.5, no need to re-adjust colors when changing batches.
