Old Zhou opened a modification factory in Yuyao, specializing in PP filler modified granules. Last month, a downstream client changed the formula at the last minute, cutting from homopolymer PP powder to copolymer pellets. The dozen tons of homopolymer powder and several bags of high-melt finger powder in the warehouse corner slept on the pallet for over three months. Forklift drivers walked around the way; the woven bag openings got damp from workshop rain leaks, and a squeeze could produce lumps. The money on the ledger still had the word "raw material" on it—in other words, dead money lying in the accounts.
If an order is canceled, you can take it again; if a customer changes materials, you can negotiate again, but the pile of powder in your warehouse won't just grow and disappear on its own.
Obsolete material isn't an asset, it's a liability lying on the books.
PP powder is different from granular material; it's bulk fine powder that takes up space, raises dust, and weighs the scale. What's even more troublesome is that it absorbs moisture. The material next to the modification workshop gets stuck and compacted for too long, just like flour that gets damp—it's not that it's spoiled, but its fluidity quietly worsens. Feeding it into the screw makes it easier to bridge and unstable feeding, resulting in pellets with melting fingers that fluctuate wildly. If you don't know grading, mixing homopolymer powder and high-melt finger powder into one bag, the seller will take a look and give you the bulk price, selling the good material at a crumb price. Over time, the label on the bag gets worn off, and even you don't know how much melting index is inside.
Powder material won't appreciate in value; it will only gradually consolidate and drop in value.
Let me tell you a true story: Old Zhou once found a scrap dealer who drove a small truck over, circled the warehouse twice, and immediately said, "Your powder is trendy, clumped, and mixed with floor ash. I'll pay you the bulk price." Old Zhou thought he'd quickly make room and agreed. But after weighing, the vendor started picking bags again—one had dust, another had a smudged label, and he cut another 300 per ton. Old Zhou felt uncomfortable, but with the goods loaded onto the truck, what else could he do?
The wholesaler's calculations were even more precise than your accountant's—picking out good flour and charging it as defective, returning lumps and charging the shipping fee. Think about it, he's not making money from scrap, but from money you don't understand.
The seller's quotation sheet is like a weather forecast—just take it at a glance before you leave, don't take it seriously.
Cologne New Materials follows a terminal digestion route for PP powder recycling, not relying on resale to make a price difference. Mainstream products like homopolymer powder and high-melting index powder are still used by downstream modification and pelletizing plants. After grading and receiving them, they are taken directly without inventory pressure. We don't pick on batches of mixed materials, slightly damp or dusty materials on the ground—they go into Cologne's own modified granulation formula and digest them, just like mixing Chinese medicine: one flavor has a higher melting index, and another ingredient is added to make up for it.
Pricing isn't one-size-fits-all. Grading by melt index, ash content, appearance, and whether it is lumping; good physical properties offer good prices, slightly damp ones are accepted as modified grades, with price differences displayed on the table. Plus, with our own production capacity and long-term customers as a backup, quotes don't fluctuate with the market. When prices rise, they chase after you; when prices drop, we ignore calls. We still pay what we should do.
Good materials aren't afraid of not having buyers; what they fear is selling good materials as waste.
The five-step cooperation process: material reporting, grading evaluation, on-site pickup, deduction of payment, settlement and invoice issuance. Old Zhou's batch of materials went like this—he took a few photos and sent them in price labels about twelve tons. After we appraised and quoted a price, we arranged a time for on-site weighing. After the goods were brought back, the recycling proceeds were directly offset by his purchase of KONICE modified plastics for the next month, nearly half of the cost. So the warehouse was cleared, the cash was back, and the new material arrived at the factory. After the trip, he told me he should have handled it two years ago if he had known this way.
The essence of recycling isn't selling scrap, but turning dead money into working money.
Recyclable PP powder covers homopolymer powder from major mainstream companies like Sinopec, PetroChina, and CNOOC Refining, as well as common private powder materials like Luqing Petrochemical and Dongfang Hongye. Specific grades are subject to physical appraisal. In terms of form, we collect: stagnant original powder (whole bags or loose bags are fine), moisture-affected lumping material, leftover residue from reproduction, workshop-ground powder, machine head powder for machine and line cleaning, mixed label powder. If it clumps, don't force it to be rolled open and given to customers. Take photos first and report the material; grading is more cost-effective than fiddling with it yourself.
Three common misconceptions, here is a reminder —
"Is recycling just selling cheap?" "The truth is selling by grade and grade; good powder sells at a good price, while mixed powder gets underpriced."
"Waiting for price increases?" "The truth is that PP powder material will only collapse in price and lose value; once it absorbs moisture and clumps, it loses value."
"Who bids higher and sells to whom?" "The truth is that when you get it, you bargain, weigh it, and delay payments. Comparing prices to the three companies actually causes losses
