做塑料这一行,金字塔尖有个心照不宣的鄙视链:做LCP、PEEK的觉得自己是"贵族",做PPA的觉得自己"高不成低不就",做PA66的则在底下笑PPA贵得离谱。
但有意思的是,真正在发动机周边翻车的,往往不是用不起PPA的厂,而是那些图便宜、把"号称高温尼龙"的料灌进传感器壳子里的厂。
舱里温度一百三四,再被机油、冷却液一泡,普通PA66撑几个月就发软、翘曲、尺寸飘。PPA就是为这个温度区间生的。可问题在于,正牌PPA一吨的价,差不多够买两吨PA66。于是副牌PPA这门生意,就这么被"贵又不敢用"的纠结逼出来了。
PPA到底是个什么段位的料
PPA中文叫聚邻苯二甲酰胺,说白了就是在尼龙分子链里塞进对苯二甲酸,把熔点从PA66的二百六十度级一下抬到三百摄氏度往上,长期耐温能稳在一百五十度以上。发动机周边的进气总管、中冷器壳、传感器接头、油底壳附件,现在基本是它的天下。
这个品类的全球盘子高度集中。按第三方市场报告(2024—2026年口径),排在前面的国外大厂大致是这几家:索尔维,其高性能聚合物业务在2023年分拆后归入Syensqo,牌号Amodel®,全球份额约两成出头,苏州基地年产能超2.5万吨;塞拉尼斯,2022年完成对原杜邦交通与材料事业部的收购,牌号Zytel® HTN,在高端PPA领域长期领跑;巴斯夫,牌号Ultramid® Advanced,紧随其后。这三家合计拿走全球大半江山,剩下还有瑞士EMS-GRIVORY等在分一块。
副牌不是次品,是原厂同批料里没踩线的那一档
先把一个概念讲透——什么叫副牌。
副牌不是次品,更不是回料。它是同一厂家、同一牌号里,出厂检验时个别指标没完全踩线的那一批。聚合是同一条线下来的,分子结构和正牌一模一样,可能熔指偏了一点、色相差了半度、灰分多了一格,但它还是原厂原生粒子,没有经过二次热加工。
它的来源就四类:装置开停车时的头尾料不稳定、牌号切换时的过渡料、生产中个别指标小幅飘移的批次、副线尾料。同一牌号副牌还分精选副、普通副两档,价格通常比正牌低一截。
边界要分清,别买错:

索尔维/Syensqo:Amodel是PPA这行的"老资历"
谈PPA绕不开Amodel。这牌子做了四十多年,汽车发动机周边的认证清单里几乎都能见到它。它的特点是长期耐高温和耐化学性做得扎实,Supreme系列玻璃化温度能到一百六十多度,专门对着电动车动力总成和金属替代件。
副牌方面,Amodel的副牌多是熔指或色相小幅飘移的批次,基材配方和正牌同源。对不做外观高光、只做内结构件的厂来说,挑对精选副,发动机周边的耐受温度一点没缩水。它的副牌在市场上既有大包装也有小包装,按用量选就行。
塞拉尼斯(原杜邦):Zytel HTN走的是应用量最大的那条路
Zytel® HTN这个名字,老工程师基本都听过。它原属杜邦,2022年随杜邦交通与材料事业部一起并入塞拉尼斯,配方和牌号体系没变,只是换了个东家。它在高端PPA里的应用面铺得最宽,汽车电子、高压连接器、发动机周边都有量。
HTN的体系分得很细,52系、51系、54系对应不同的共聚和填充。副牌料往往出在玻纤含量或流动性小幅偏离的批次上。对做一般进气件、传感器壳体的厂,它的副牌性价比很能打,前提是你得把牌号后缀认清楚,别拿51系去顶52系的活。
巴斯夫:Ultramid Advanced走耐水解和低翘曲路线
巴斯夫的Ultramid® Advanced(T系列)在PPA里算后发但扎实。它的强项是耐水解和尺寸稳定,对着发动机冷却回路、热管理部件这类长期泡在水里的工况。
它的副牌料来源和别家类似,也是批次指标小幅偏离。对不需要走最高认证、但要在湿热环境里长期服役的件,巴斯夫副牌是个被低估的选项。
PPA副牌这单,别被价签牵着走
买PPA副牌,最忌讳的就是只看价。第一,先确认牌号后缀和你的工况对不对,PPA光共聚体系就好几套,张冠李戴等于白买。第二,高温尼龙吸潮后必须充分预干燥,副牌也一样,烘料不到位照样起泡脆裂。第三,小批试产先跑热老化和尺寸复测,别一上来就吨级上机。第四,要原厂原包,大包装小包装都得有批号,别接那种"散包混装"的来历不明货。
说白了,副牌省的是采购成本,不是技术标准。

桂林有家做汽车发动机周边进气传感器壳体的客户,之前一直用普通PA66顶,夏天舱温一高,壳体变形、接头漏装,三个月内返厂率到8%。后来换了进口PPA副牌,按发动机工况重新烘料、复测热老化,返厂率压到0.4%以内,单件材料成本还比正牌PPA低了一截。这就是选对档位的意义——不是贪便宜,是把指标花在真正需要的地方。宁波市科隆新材料有限公司做进口高温尼龙副牌做了多年,类似的案子每年处理几十起,说白了就是帮你把"高温下会不会翘"这种事,在量产之前先量一遍。
In the plastic industry, there’s an unspoken hierarchy of contempt at the top of the pyramid: those who work with LCP and PEEK consider themselves 'noble,' those who work with PPA feel 'stuck in the middle,' and those who work with PA66 laugh at PPA for being ridiculously expensive.
But interestingly, the ones that actually end up having failures around the engine are often not the factories that can't afford PPA, but those that go for cheapness and stuff so-called high-temperature nylon into sensor housings.
The cabin temperature is 134, and after being soaked in engine oil and coolant, ordinary PA66 will soften, warp, and have dimensional drift in a few months. PPA is made for this temperature range. The problem is that the price of a ton of genuine PPA is almost enough to buy two tons of PA66. So the business of sub-brand PPA was pushed out by this dilemma of 'expensive and too risky to use.'
What level of talent is PPA actually?
PPA, called polyphthalamide in Chinese, simply put, is about inserting terephthalic acid into the nylon molecular chain, raising the melting point from the 260°C range of PA66 to above 300°C, and making it able to withstand temperatures above 150°C for long periods. Components around the engine, such as intake manifolds, intercooler housings, sensor connectors, and oil pan accessories, are now basically dominated by it.
The global market for this category of plates is highly concentrated. According to third-party market reports (2024–2026 standard), the leading foreign manufacturers are roughly the following: Solvay, whose high-performance polymer business was spun off into Syensqo in 2023, with the brand Amodel®, holding a global market share of just over 20%, and its Suzhou plant having an annual capacity of over 25,000 tons; Celanese, which completed the acquisition of DuPont's Transportation & Advanced Materials business in 2022, with the brand Zytel® HTN, long leading in the high-end PPA sector; BASF, with the brand Ultramid® Advanced, closely following. These three together take up more than half of the global market, while the rest is shared by companies like Switzerland’s EMS-GRIVORY.
The secondary card is not a defective product; it’s from the same batch of original factory materials, just the ones that didn’t hit the line.
First, let's thoroughly explain a concept—what a sub-brand is.
Secondary grade is not a defective product, nor is it recycled material. It is a batch from the same manufacturer and brand that, during factory inspection, had a few indicators that didn’t fully meet the standards. The polymer comes from the same production line, with a molecular structure identical to the standard grade. The melt flow might be slightly off, the color hue might differ by half a shade, or the ash content might be one level higher, but it is still original particles from the factory, without any secondary thermal processing.
There are only four sources: unstable head and tail material when the equipment is started or stopped, transitional material during grade switching, batches with slight fluctuations in certain indicators during production, and leftover material from secondary lines. For the same grade, secondary grades are further divided into premium secondary and ordinary secondary, with prices usually lower than the main grade.
Boundaries need to be clear, don't buy the wrong one:

Solvay/Syensqo: Amodel is a 'veteran' in the PPA field
When talking about PPA, you can't avoid Amodel. This brand has been around for more than forty years, and it can be seen on almost every certification list related to automotive engines. Its characteristic is solid long-term heat resistance and chemical resistance. The Supreme series has a glass transition temperature of over 160 degrees, specifically designed for electric vehicle powertrains and metal replacement parts.
Regarding secondary brands, most of Amodel's secondary brands are batches with slight variations in melt index or color, and the base material formula is the same as the primary brand. For factories that do not focus on surface highlights and only produce internal structural parts, selecting the right premium secondary brand does not compromise the temperature resistance around the engine at all. Its secondary brands are available in both large and small packages in the market, so you can choose according to your usage.
Celanese (formerly DuPont): Zytel HTN follows the route with the largest application volume
Most veteran engineers have heard of the name Zytel® HTN. It originally belonged to DuPont, and in 2022, it was incorporated into Celanese along with DuPont's Transportation & Advanced Polymers division. The formulations and grade system haven't changed, only the ownership. Its applications are the broadest among high-end PPAs, with significant usage in automotive electronics, high-voltage connectors, and around engines.
The HTN system is divided in detail, with the 52 series, 51 series, and 54 series corresponding to different copolymers and fillers. Secondary grades usually appear in batches where the glass fiber content or flowability slightly deviates. For factories making general intake components and sensor housings, its secondary grades are very cost-effective, provided you clearly understand the grade suffixes and don’t use a 51 series grade for tasks meant for the 52 series.
BASF: Ultramid Advanced Takes the Hydrolysis-Resistant and Low-Warp Path
BASF's Ultramid® Advanced (T series) is relatively late in the PPA market but solid. Its strengths are hydrolysis resistance and dimensional stability, suitable for conditions like long-term immersion in water, such as in engine cooling circuits and thermal management components.
Its secondary brand material source is similar to other companies, and there is also a slight deviation in batch indicators. For parts that do not require the highest certification but need to serve long-term in humid and hot environments, the BASF secondary brand is an undervalued option.
For this PPA sub-label order, don't be led by the price tag
When buying PPA secondary brands, the biggest taboo is to only look at the price. First, confirm whether the grade suffix matches your working conditions. PPA just in the light copolymer system has several sets, and mixing them up is equivalent to buying for nothing. Second, high-temperature nylon must be fully pre-dried after moisture absorption, and it’s the same for secondary brands—if the material isn’t properly dried, it will bubble and crack. Third, for small batch trials, first run heat aging and dimensional re-measurement; don’t go straight to ton-scale production. Fourth, get original factory packaging; both large and small packages should have batch numbers. Avoid those "bulk mixed packaging" products with unknown origins.
To be clear, the secondary brand saves on procurement costs, not technical standards.

Genuine PPA is so expensive that we don't dare to stock parts around the engine. Recycled PPA warps at high temperatures, while major manufacturer's secondary PPA balances both the temperature resistance level and cost.
Here are a few useful mnemonic phrases you can use directly:
For cabin temperatures consistently above 130, it must withstand engine oil and coolant—use PPA, don’t stubbornly force PA66;
Certified parts, exterior glossy parts—use genuine ones, don’t save money on this.
For internal structural parts, not appearance parts—you can look at the secondary brand, try first before use;
First fix the grade suffix, don’t mix up different copolymer systems;
Secondary brands should still be pre-dried and retested for heat aging;
Require original factory packaging and batch numbers for sampling, don’t accept loose mixed packages;
Large volume use goes with large packaging, sample testing and debugging use small packaging.
There is a client in Guilin making automotive engine peripheral intake sensor housings. They used to use ordinary PA66, but in summer when the cabin temperature rose, the housings deformed and connectors leaked, resulting in a return rate of 8% within three months. Later, they switched to imported secondary brand PPA, re-dried the material and retested heat aging according to engine conditions, bringing the return rate down to below 0.4%, and the unit material cost was even lower than the original PPA. This demonstrates the significance of choosing the right tier—not about seeking cheapness, but about allocating performance where it truly matters.
