副牌尼龙能不能用在汽车件上?先想清楚它坏了会怎样再定

有一家做汽车内饰卡扣的厂,用副牌 PA66 做了两年。

两年里没出过任何问题——配货稳定、客户没投诉、失效记录是零。这件事他们自己也觉得做对了。

第三年他们接了一个新项目,是给另一家主机厂供同类型的卡扣。样品做出来了,性能全部通过,价格也有优势。

然后在客户审核环节被拦下了。

拦下的原因不是件有问题——客户看了他们的历史数据,两年零失效记录,做得很好。

拦下的是一张材料承认表。

审核的人问:这个件的材料牌号是什么?能不能对应到原厂的某个牌号?有没有每批次的 COA?换批次的时候你们怎么验证?

他们答不上来。因为副牌料拿不到这些。

后来这个项目没做成。负责人跟我说了一句话,我觉得比任何技术参数都值得记下来:

"这两年我一直在想这批料能不能用,从来没想到它会挡住我去更大的客户。"

这是一个很少被摆到台面上谈的成本——副牌料的代价不止是失效风险,还有一层天花板:它会限制你能进谁的供应链。

这篇就讲清楚这件事。

一、先把"汽车件"拆成三档

按"坏了会怎样"分,不是按用在车的哪个部位分:

区分的关键不是"这个件在车上",而是"这个件坏了,代价是返工单还是召回令"。

一句话:副牌料能不能用在汽车上,不取决于料,取决于这个件坏了会怎样。

为什么第一档不用讨论

有人会问:万一性能测出来确实够呢?

这个疑问很自然,但它问错了方向。

第一档件的设计逻辑不是"算出需要的强度然后选够用的料",而是"在最坏情况下也必须不出事"。

所以它的选材依据从来不是一组性能数据,而是一整套已经通过验证并被记录在案的组合:某个牌号、某个供应商、某套工艺参数。这个组合一旦被承认,接下来几年都不许动。

副牌料的特性恰恰和这个逻辑相反——它的定义就是"有浮动"。

所以这一档里,讨论性能数据其实没有意义。这不是一个能不能达标的问题,是一个允不允许有浮动的问题。

召回这件事的成本结构

再说一件在第一档里经常被低估的事。

一个零部件如果导致召回,它的成本不是"这个零件多少钱"——是要按整批车辆、整链式的动作来算的:

备件、物流、经销网络的人工、终端客户的时间补偿、品牌影响——这些加起来,和一个卡扣或者一个小齿轮的材料价,完全不在同一个数量级上。

这就是为什么业内有一句很朴素的话:

材料费通常只占成品成本的一部分,但选错了,后面所有的加工投入都可能白费。

在第一档的位置上,为了省料钱而承担任何不确定性,在概率上是不划算的——哪怕那个不确定性很小。

二、真正的门槛:不是材料,是认证

这是比"性能够不够"更容易被忽略的一层,也就是开篇那个故事拦住人的那一层。

汽车供应链的材料管理,核心不是"这个料的性能能不能满足",而是"这个料的身份能不能被证明"。

主机厂和 Tier 1 要的通常是一整套材料文件:

原厂 COA(每批次质检单)

材料牌号锁定(要能对应到原厂牌号)

材料承认书 / PPAP 相关材料文件

涉及安规场景的 UL 黄卡等第三方认证

为什么这套体系不认"差不多"

值得说透这一点,因为它解释了副牌料为什么"测出来够用也没用"。

材料承认体系的设计逻辑是这样的:

我先承认"这个料 + 这套工艺 = 合格",然后约定以后五年、十年都不许变。有了这个约定,我以后就只需要抽检,不需要每次重做全套验证。

这套体系的地基是"确定性"。

而副牌料的定义是"某一项偏离了窗口的那批料"。它有浮动——一旦允许浮动,上面那条推理链就断了:第二次送来的料和第一次承认的那批不一样,那次承认过的结论就不再自动成立。

所以这不是挑刺,是这套机制本身没法容纳浮动。

认证体系不认"差不多",只认"同一批"。

这也是为什么有些项目一开始用副牌料试产没问题,到了客户审核环节被拦下——不是料不行,是料证明不了自己。

这里有一个很现实的取舍

有时候我会和客户这样确认:

"你现在这一票订单做出来是能用的。但你接下一个更大的客户时,他大概率会问你要材料文件。那时候这批料就没法用了,你会重新验证一遍。"

这个取舍本身没有对错——有的厂就是做区域市场、就做非认证件,副牌料的成本优势是实打实的。

关键是这个决定要在事前做,不要在客户审核那天被动地发现。

采购上的一条判断:问"副牌能不能用在汽车件上"时,客户通常说得出件装在哪个位置,却很少说清有没有安规或主机厂认证要求——而这一项才是真正决定答案的。 件装在哪,只说明它在车上;有没有认证要求,才说明它能不能用副牌。先问认证,再谈性能。

三、三个问题自测:这个件能不能用

Before discussing the price, answer these three questions first:

① This part is broken, what are the consequences?

Rework → can be discussed; line stoppage → be cautious; recall or safety incident → no need to discuss.

In practice, this step is the easiest to be neglected. Because the question 'What happens if this part breaks?' sounds like a qualitative question, many people casually answer 'Not too serious.'

There’s a way to make it concrete: suppose it breaks on the end customer’s car, then follow down three steps—

Will the customer notice? (Some parts, once put in, can no longer be seen)

If you find it, will you complain? (Some items are broken but it doesn't affect their use)

If you file a complaint, will you be held accountable?

If you can't answer all three steps, that's the real 'not too serious'.

② Does the customer or OEM have any material certification requirements?

Need COA, need part number lock, need PPAP → the secondary brand material is basically out of the game.

As long as the final product performs well, the identity of the material doesn't matter → there is flexibility.

Note that there is a spot here that is easy to get wrong: Some clients do not want the material files themselves, but their clients do.

For example: you supply to a Tier 2, and they don’t require a COA; but their products are delivered to a Tier 1 for assembly, and Tier 1 is part of the vehicle certification system, so they will trace it back. The chain can extend upwards without you noticing.

So when asking, don't just ask your direct customer; ask 'what position this part will ultimately be installed in the whole vehicle,' and also 'whether there is any link in the chain that would require material documents.'

③ Can the batch be locked?

This one is the easiest to skip.

The risk of sub-materials is not in 'one batch being different,' but in 'the next batch being different.' If the customer is doing long-term mass production and taking delivery monthly, and you cannot guarantee batch number stability, then the risk of this project is not in the material cost, but in delivery.

There is an often overlooked contradiction implied here: the longer-term and more stable a project is, the less suitable secondary materials are. This is because the longer the cycle, the greater the risk that the batch number cannot be locked; conversely, the more one-off and short-cycle a project is, the more it can use them.

One of the three says 'No,' this piece should not use secondary material. No need to force it.

4. There is also a practical variable: who your client is

The same item has completely different thresholds for customers at different levels.

Supply Tier 1 (First-tier Support): Material approval usually follows Tier 1's own verification system. As long as your actual test data can pass their approval process, there is relatively more flexibility—they want to know 'whether this part can be used'.

Directly supplied to OEMs, or to enter the announcement directory/material list: material grades often need to be fixed in the drawings or material list. In such cases, there is basically no place for secondary grade materials—they want to know whether the identity of this material can be written into the document.

So before self-testing, first confirm one thing: which layer of the supply chain this item ultimately entered.

This factor determines feasibility even earlier than performance data and is also the easiest to be overlooked.

The lesson from the buckle factory at the beginning is at this level: in the first two years, their clients didn't require material documents, but in the third year, new clients did. The same batch of materials and the same parts, the feasibility completely changed.

5. If it really needs to be used, four risk control measures

Some scenarios are indeed suitable—for non-load-bearing parts in the third tier, internal parts, and appearance-insensitive parts, using genuine material is a waste. But four things must be done:

First, secure the batch number and prepare enough at one time.

Do not buy in small batches. Changing the batch number for a secondary brand material is equivalent to changing the material and requires revalidation.

The arithmetic behind this is actually quite simple: suppose a batch requires three rounds of verification, and the labor, machine downtime, and sample costs for each verification together will likely exceed the money saved from using substandard materials. Therefore, 'small amounts multiple times' is usually uneconomical for substandard materials.

Second, retain a sample.

Each batch sample is sealed and kept until the end of the project cycle. If there is a problem, it can be traced and self-proven.

Specific method: Keep 500 grams to 1 kilogram of each batch, sealed and away from light, label with batch number and arrival date, and keep it for at least half a year after this batch is used up. This expense is almost negligible, but it is the only thing you can present if something goes wrong.

Third, the first item and regular full inspection.

It's not just about conducting an incoming material inspection once. The characteristic of secondary-grade materials is fluctuation, so inspections need to cover middle and later batches.

Fourth, write into the file.

Which brand of auxiliary card to use, which component to use it on, and the allowed range of indicators all need to be documented in writing. Verbal agreements are not effective when problems arise.

A special reminder here: these four measures are not about adding more layers, but are complementary. Implementing only one or two of them will greatly reduce their effectiveness—for example, if you keep samples but don’t lock the batch number, when something goes wrong, you won’t know which batch that material in your hands is from.

6. An Honest Reminder

The price difference of secondary-grade materials is real, and the cost savings it can provide are also real. But there are two accounts that need to be considered together:

One item is explicit: material price difference × quantity used.

One item is implicit: verification costs, sampling and management costs, and the cost of rework or production stoppage in case of failure.

On this basis, I want to add a third item to the account — the one that is most easily overlooked:

Opportunity cost: Will it block you from getting bigger clients?

The buckle factory mentioned at the beginning saved two years' worth of material costs, but in the third year it lost a project it could have won. That project was worth much more than what was saved in those two years.

So my advice has always been: when you can use the genuine brand, don't save money; when you can use the secondary brand, don't waste it.

The order of judgment is 'what happens if this part breaks,' not 'how much cheaper is this material.'

Conclusion

Back to the original question: Can secondary-grade nylon be used in automotive parts?

Yes, but it should be used in the third tier, and it must meet the three self-assessment criteria and four risk control measures; do not touch the first and second tiers.

An even earlier statement than these three is: Think carefully about whose supply chain you want to enter in the next three years. Sometimes this sentence determines the answer even before choosing the materials themselves.
