一吨SOE正牌,比普通SEBS贵出一截;换副牌,一吨能省两三千。可要是这副牌的阻尼性能不对,车内饰板装配后异响、回弹不对,一批件赔出去的钱,够你买十吨正牌。
这笔账小学都会算,可真到下单那一刻,总有人先盯着价格看。SOE这东西,偏偏是那种差一点点就全错的料。
几乎一家独大的高阻尼料
SOE,全称苯乙烯-烯烃-苯乙烯嵌段共聚物,业内更熟悉的是旭化成(Asahi Kasei)那个注册商标S.O.E.。它本质是氢化苯乙烯类弹性体(SEBS)的一种变体,但软段用了共聚型设计,本事就是室温区间有很宽的阻尼峰——高阻尼、低回弹、耐磨、抗刮。
这品类小众到几乎是一家独大:旭化成的S.O.E.是招牌,代表牌号S1606、S1611、S1619。能跟它对位的国外备选,主要是JSR、科腾(Kraton G高阻尼系列)、可乐丽(Septon高阻尼牌号)。按梯队写,旭化成是头一家,后面几家是同性能档的备选。(口径:产品/技术梯队,企业官网)
SOE跟普通SEBS到底差在哪?普通SEBS的软段是纯乙烯-丁烯,损耗峰窄,回弹偏快;SOE用共聚软段设计,把损耗峰拉宽到室温一大片区间,意味着在很宽的温度范围里都能吸震、低回弹。做汽车内饰,要的就是车在过减速带、过坑洼时那种闷住的、不弹手的手感,这正是SOE的看家本领。
副牌是损耗峰飘了一格
SOE副牌是什么?旭化成的SOE走专利共聚软段路线,副牌多来自装置开停车头尾料和牌号切换过渡料。它的分子骨架跟正牌一致,只是损耗峰位置或邵氏硬度在出厂检验时小幅飘移。
边界照旧:副牌是原厂原生粒子;回料是内饰件水口料再造粒,已经受过一次热历史,阻尼性能掉一档;再生料是废塑料回来的,阻尼谱根本对不齐。SOE这种料用在汽车内饰软触、减震、发泡件上,副牌那点硬度飘移,在不要求精确阻尼的内饰包覆件上,完全够用。
旭化成S.O.E.:牌子本身就是它
旭化成是S.O.E.这个牌子本身。S1606、S1611主打高阻尼低回弹,做汽车内饰软触、脚垫发泡、运动护具。它家副牌多是硬度或损耗峰小幅飘移的批次,特点是跟PP、SEBS、EVA相容性好,做内饰包覆件配配方省心。旭化成副牌包装规格杂,大包装小包装都有。
做汽车内饰的厂都清楚,S1606和S1611这种牌号,正牌按车规件的批次管理走,副牌则更多出现在装置开停车和牌号切换的尾段。对那些不直接装车、只做包覆层和发泡件的二供厂来说,这一档副牌的性价比,正合适。
JSR:第二供应源的稳
JSR在氢化苯乙烯类弹性体里有自己的高阻尼牌号线,性能档跟SOE对位。它家副牌配方文档规范,批次一致性好,做减震件和阻尼垫的厂拿来做第二供应源很稳。
科腾Kraton G:供应链成熟的备选
美国科腾Kraton G系列里也有高阻尼、低回弹的氢化牌号,跟SOE在汽车内饰和胶粘改性上对位。科腾副牌的好处是供应链成熟、可追溯,做要求供货稳定的内饰件,拿它顶正牌风险可控。
三个坑,都在阻尼谱上
SOE副牌三个坑。头一个是阻尼温谱不对。SOE的灵魂就是那条宽阻尼峰,副牌飘了峰位,做减震件的工作温度就不对,车一过减速带就异响。
再一个是低回弹手感。内饰软触要的就是那个闷的回弹,副牌回弹偏了,手感一下子就露馅。还有一个是相容性。SOE跟PP、SEBS的共混是配方核心,副牌进来必须重新配一遍,别照正牌配方套。
汽车内饰件还有个时间维度:装车后要经历高低温循环和日晒老化。副牌如果加氢度或耐候指标飘了,新车时手感正常,半年后内饰件变硬、阻尼下降,异响就找上门。所以做内饰软触的厂,副牌除了常温测,还得补一段热老化后的阻尼复测。

One ton of genuine SOE is significantly more expensive than ordinary SEBS; switching to a secondary brand can save two to three thousand per ton. But if the damping performance of this secondary brand is not right, after the car interior panels are assembled, there could be abnormal noise or incorrect rebound. The money lost compensating for a batch of defective parts could buy you ten tons of the genuine brand.
Even elementary school students can do this math, but when it comes to placing an order, there are always people who first focus on the price. SOE is exactly the kind of thing where a tiny mistake can ruin everything.
High-damping material that is almost a monopoly
SOE, which stands for Styrene-Olefin-Styrene block copolymer, is more commonly known in the industry as Asahi Kasei's registered trademark S.O.E. Essentially, it is a variant of hydrogenated styrene elastomer (SEBS), but its soft segments are designed with a copolymer structure. Inherently, it has a very broad damping peak at room temperature—high damping, low rebound, wear-resistant, and scratch-resistant.
This category is so niche that it is almost dominated by a single company: Asahi Kasei's S.O.E. is the flagship, with representative grades S1606, S1611, and S1619. The main foreign alternatives that can compete with it are JSR, Kraton (G high-damping series), and Kuraray (Septon high-damping grades). In terms of hierarchy, Asahi Kasei is the leading company, and the following companies are alternatives with similar performance. (Caliber: product/technology hierarchy, company websites)
What exactly is the difference between SOE and ordinary SEBS? The soft segment of ordinary SEBS is pure ethylene-butylene, with a narrow loss peak and relatively quick rebound; SOE uses a copolymerized soft segment design, widening the loss peak over a large range around room temperature, which means it can absorb shock and have low rebound over a wide temperature range. For automotive interiors, what is needed is that muted, non-bouncy feel when the car goes over speed bumps or potholes, which is exactly SOE's specialty.

What is an SOE sub-brand? Asahi Kasei's SOE follows the patented copolymer soft segment route. Sub-brands mostly come from the start-up and shutdown residues of the equipment and transitional materials from grade switching. Its molecular backbone is the same as the main brand, only the loss peak position or Shore hardness may slightly shift during factory inspection.
The boundaries remain the same: the secondary brand is made from original factory native particles; reprocessed material is made from sprue material of interior parts, which has already gone through one thermal history, causing its damping performance to drop by one level; recycled material comes from waste plastic, and its damping spectrum is completely inconsistent. When SOE materials are used in automotive interior soft-touch, shock-absorbing, or foamed parts, the slight hardness fluctuation of the secondary brand is perfectly sufficient for interior coverings that do not require precise damping.
Asahi Kasei S.O.E.: The brand itself is it
Asahi Kasei is the S.O.E. brand itself. S1606 and S1611 are mainly focused on high damping and low rebound, used for soft-touch automotive interiors, foam for floor mats, and sports protective gear. Their sub-brands mostly feature batches with slight variations in hardness or loss peak, characterized by good compatibility with PP, SEBS, and EVA, making them convenient for interior trim molding formulations. Asahi Kasei's sub-brands come in various packaging specifications, including both large and small packages.
Factories that make car interiors are all aware that grades like S1606 and S1611, the main grades are managed according to car-grade batch standards, while the secondary grades appear more in the later stage of device start-stop and grade switching. For those secondary suppliers who do not directly install parts on cars and only make covering layers and foam parts, this level of secondary grade offers just the right cost-performance ratio.
JSR: Stability of the secondary supply source
JSR has its own high-damping grade line in hydrogenated styrene elastomers, with performance specifications matching SOE. Its secondary brand's formulation documentation is standardized, batch consistency is good, and manufacturers making shock-absorbing components and damping pads can reliably use it as a second source.
Kraton G by Keteng: A Mature Alternative in the Supply Chain
In the U.S., Kraton's G series also has hydrogenated grades with high damping and low rebound, which correspond to SOE in automotive interior and adhesive modifications. The advantage of Kraton's secondary brand is that the supply chain is mature and traceable. For interior parts that require stable supply, using it to replace the main brand has controllable risks.
Three pits, all on the damping spectrum
Three pitfalls of SOE sub-brands. The first one is that the damping temperature spectrum is incorrect. The soul of SOE is that broad damping peak, but the sub-brand's peak position drifts, so the working temperature for vibration damping parts is wrong, causing abnormal noises when the car goes over a speed bump.
Another one is the low rebound feel. The soft-touch interior requires that kind of dense rebound; when a secondary brand's rebound is off, the hand feel immediately gives it away. Another issue is compatibility. The blending of SOE with PP and SEBS is the core of the formula, so when a secondary brand comes in, the formula must be reworked; you can't just apply the main brand's formula.
Automotive interior parts also have a time dimension: after being installed in the car, they have to undergo high and low temperature cycles and sun exposure aging. If a sub-brand has fluctuations in hydrogen content or weather resistance indicators, the interior parts may feel normal when the car is new, but after six months, they become hard, the damping decreases, and abnormal noises appear. Therefore, manufacturers making soft-touch interior parts need to not only test sub-brands at room temperature but also perform a damping re-test after heat aging.

There is a customer in Jingzhou who makes automotive interior soft-touch covered parts and vibration-damping mats. They previously used 100% Asahi Kasei S1611 genuine brand, but the cost could not be reduced at the SOE level. Later, they mixed 20% of the same manufacturer’s sub-brand into the formulas for interior covers and floor mat foaming. The hardness deviation was controlled within 2 degrees Shore, and the low-rebound feel and damping test matched the data of the all-genuine formula. The cost per ton of material was saved by just over two thousand.
