工程师举着一个磨花的齿轮:"这批POM做出来的齿轮,跑三个月就响,你换的什么料?"
采购翻着单子:"大厂副牌啊,比正牌便宜两千一吨。"
工程师把齿轮往桌上一放:"便宜两千,一批齿轮赔五万。你自己说。"
采购不说话了。
POM就是这样一个料:耐摩擦、耐疲劳、自润滑,齿轮、滑块、传动件都靠它。但它又是出了名的"差一丝就翻车"——熔指偏一点,齿轮精度就飘;含水率高一点,打出来就气泡银丝。正牌贵,回料不敢用,副牌这个中间地带,多少人踩过坑。这篇把POM的全球格局和副牌门道讲透。
POM,聚甲醛,俗称赛钢。
这东西像塑料里的"机芯件":刚性高、摩擦系数低、耐反复疲劳、尺寸稳,做齿轮、齿条、凸轮、滑块、拉链、弹簧件,凡是要精密传动又要耐磨的地方,几乎都有它。共聚POM耐水解耐温宽,均聚POM刚性更猛。
全球POM供应,是个小而集中的圈子。按产能和市场份额交叉,排在前面的国外大厂主要是三家:塞拉尼斯、宝理塑料、巴斯夫。
塞拉尼斯是全球POM的龙头,而且是少有的同时做均聚和共聚的厂;宝理塑料是日本的亚洲主力;巴斯夫是欧洲老牌。这三家加起来,占了全球POM的大头。
POM副牌,先讲透。
它是同一厂家同一牌号生产线上,出厂检验个别指标小幅偏离正牌标准的那部分——熔指飘一点、色相差一点、或灰分浮一档。分子结构和正牌一条线下来,耐磨底子没变。
四个来源:开停车头尾料、牌号切换过渡料、工艺波动致个别指标小幅超标的批次、副线尾料。POM产线投资大、批量不算大,副牌货源在大盘里相对紧俏。
边界划清:正牌全指标达标、批次稳;副牌基材一致、个别指标小幅浮动;回料是加工边角料再造粒,受过一次热历史,耐磨和疲劳性能掉得快;再生料是废旧回收造粒,波动大。POM副牌做一般齿轮、传动件、滑块可以;做精密级齿轮、高负荷传动件、认证件,别省这个钱。
先说塞拉尼斯(Celanese)。
这家是全球POM的龙头,市场份额口径上排前面。它厉害在一点:全球少有的同时掌握均聚和共聚POM核心技术的厂。共聚线有Hostaform®和Celcon®两个商标,均聚线有Delrin®——Delrin本来是杜邦的王牌,后来随业务并入塞拉尼斯旗下。
Hostaform/Celcon做通用和工程级共聚POM,齿轮、紧固件、传动件都用它;Delrin做均聚,刚性和耐磨更猛,精密件圈子里认。
塞拉尼斯的副牌特点:牌号全、技术底子厚,副牌多为通用工程级的小幅浮动料。做一般精度齿轮、普通传动件,它的副牌性价比和认可度都高。
再说宝理塑料(Polyplastics)。
这家是日本POM的代表,亚洲POM市场的主力。品牌Duracon®,是POM圈里的"熟面孔",全球产能口径上以数十万吨计,日本、泰国、美国、中国南通都有基地。
Duracon的特点是尺寸稳、低摩擦、耐疲劳,做汽车和电子的精密传动件认可度很高。国内做齿轮、做汽车小零件的厂,Duracon是常用底子。
宝理的副牌特点:亚洲供应链熟、牌号流通广,副牌多为通用级的小幅浮动批次。做非高精密的一般齿轮、滑块、结构传动件,它的副牌上手快。
第三家,巴斯夫(BASF)。
德国化工巨头,POM在它家叫Ultraform®。巴斯夫的POM在欧洲汽车和工业圈认可度高,份额口径上排全球前几位。
Ultraform系列覆盖通用到改性,做齿轮、轴承保持架、汽车内饰传动件都有对口牌号。巴斯夫的工艺管控细,批次匀。
巴斯夫的副牌特点:批次浮动窄,做需要稳定量产的一般传动件,用起来心里有底。
POM副牌挑货,几条要命的规矩。
烘干是命。POM加工前不烘到含水率达标,打出来就是银丝和气泡。别把烘干的锅甩给料。
认熔指。齿轮件要低熔指保耐磨,薄壁件要高熔指保流动,差一点精度就飘。
对用途。副牌别碰精密级齿轮、别碰高负荷传动、别碰认证件。一般齿轮、普通滑块、非关键传动,才是它的位置。
防分解。POM加工温度窗口窄,料温高了分解出甲醛,刺鼻又伤模。副牌料杂质多一点,更要控温。
看包装留样。大包装小包装都有,批次可溯。

Procurement fell silent.
POM is this material: friction-resistant, fatigue-resistant, self-lubricating. Gears, sliders, and transmission parts all rely on it. But it's also famously "a slight miss and it fails"—if the melting finger is slightly off, the gear precision will drift; if the moisture content is higher, the hammer will bubble like silver wire. Genuine brands are expensive, recycled materials are hesitant to use; many people have fallen into the middle ground of secondary brands. This article thoroughly explains the global landscape of POM and the secrets behind secondary brands.
POM, polyoxymethylene, commonly known as Saigang.
This thing is like the "core component" in plastic: high rigidity, low friction coefficient, resistant to repeated fatigue, stable size, used for gears, racks, cams, sliders, zippers, springs—almost everywhere precise transmission and wear resistance are needed. Copolymer POM has broad hydrolysis resistance and temperature resistance, while homopolymer POM has even stronger rigidity.
Global POM supply is a small but concentrated circle. Based on capacity and market share, the top foreign giants are mainly three: Celanese, Poly Plastics, and BASF.
Celanese is the global leader in POM and one of the few factories that does both homopolymerization and copolymerization; Polyplastics is Japan's main player in Asia; BASF is a long-established European brand. Together, these three companies account for the majority of global POM stocks.
POM secondary brands, let's get to the bottom first.
It's the part of the same manufacturer's production line with the same grade, where some factory inspection indicators slightly deviate from the official standard—melt finger floats a bit, color difference is slight, or ash content floats by one level. Molecular structure aligns with genuine brand, but wear resistance remains unchanged.
Four sources: starting and stopping starting and scraping materials, grade switching transition materials, batches with slight exceedances due to process fluctuations, and secondary line tailings. POM production lines require large investments, but the batch size is not large, so sub-brand supply is relatively tight in the market.
Boundary Clear: Genuine brands meet all indicators and batches are stable; Sub-brand base materials are consistent, with some indicators fluctuating slightly; Re-feed is processed scraps re-pelletized, having undergone one heat history, with rapid wear and fatigue loss; Reclaimed materials are recycled from waste and have large fluctuations. POM sub-brands can be used for general gears, transmission parts, and sliders; For precision gears, high-load transmission parts, and certified parts, don't skimp on this cost.
Let's start with Celanese.
This is the global leader in POM, ranking among the top in terms of market share. Its strength lies in one point: it is one of the few companies worldwide that masters core technologies for both homopolymerization and copolymer POM. Copolymer lines have the Hostaform® and Celcon® trademarks, while the polymerization line has Delrin®—Delrin was originally DuPont's ace, later merged into Celanese as part of its business.
Hostaform/Celcon makes general-purpose and engineering-grade copolymer POM, using it for gears, fasteners, and transmissions; Delrin makes homopolymers, offering stronger rigidity and wear resistance, recognized in the precision parts community.
Celanese sub-brand features: complete grades, solid technical foundation, mostly general engineering-grade small floating materials. For general precision gears and ordinary transmission parts, its sub-brand offers high cost-performance and recognition.
Let's talk about Polyplastics.
This is a representative of Japanese POM and a mainstay in the Asian POM market. The Duracon brand is a "familiar face" in the POM community, with global production capacity in the hundreds of thousands of tons, with bases in Japan, Thailand, the US, and Nantong in China.
Duracon features stable size, low friction, fatigue resistance, and high recognition for precision transmission parts in automotive and electronics. Domestic manufacturers producing gears and small automotive parts often use Duracon® as a common base.
Baoli's sub-brand features: familiar supply chain in Asia, widely circulated grades, mostly general-grade small floating batches. Makes non-high-precision general gears, sliders, and structural transmission parts; its sub-brand is quick to pick up.
Third company: BASF.
German chemical giant, POM is called Ultraform® under its company. BASF's POM is highly recognized in European automotive and industrial circles, ranking among the top globally in market share.
Ultraform series covers general to modified, producing gears, bearing cages, and automotive interior transmission parts, all with matching grades. BASF's process control is meticulous, with uniform batches.
BASF's secondary brand features: narrow batch fluctuation, making general transmission parts that require stable mass production, so you have confidence in using them.
POM secondary brand picking goods, there are a few strict rules.
Drying is life. If you don't dry until the moisture content meets the standard before POM processing, the results will be silver threads and bubbles. Don't throw the dried pot into the material.
Recognize the melting finger. For gears, low-melt fingers should be worn resistant; for thin-walled parts, high-melt fingers should ensure flow; if you miss the precision, it will float.
Regarding the purpose. For sub-brands, avoid precision-grade gears, high-load transmissions, and certified parts. General gears, standard sliders, and non-critical transmissions are where it should be.
Prevent decomposition. POM processing has a narrow temperature window; when the material temperature rises, it decomposes and releases formaldehyde, which is pungent and damages the mold. Sub-brand materials have more impurities, so temperature control is even more important.
Check the packaging to keep samples. Both large and small packages are available, batch traceability.

Hefei, Anhui has a client who makes automotive small gears and mechanical transmission parts. Previously, he was caught on POM: wanted to get a cheap batch of unknown "big brand sub-brand" products. The gears made made noises after three months of installation, and when disassembled, they were worn into a fan shape. One batch of parts was reworked and claimed compensation amounting to tens of thousands. Later, they switched to Baoli Duracon POM secondary plates for non-high-precision general gears and sliders.
