PAR(聚芳酯)小众,坑也跟着小众。
尤尼吉卡(Unitika,日本):U-Polymer(U聚合物)是它家招牌,1973年全球率先把聚芳酯工业化,是这个品类的开山户,光学、汽车、精密仪器用得多;
索尔维(Solvay,特种聚合物业务现属Syensqo,比利时):Ardel系列聚芳酯,主打耐紫外、光学与高温性能;

出光透镜、高光外观件,认正牌;
灯座、反光支架、内件,副牌能省;
耐紫外、雾度、黄度先测再镀;
暴晒件别碰回料再生料;

PAR this industry, the waters are deeper than you think. Also called polyarylate, also claimed to be "transparent and heat-resistant," the price difference per ton can double. After coating and sun-drying, the lenses made from the mold turn yellow, cracked, and cracked. Even better, very few people truly understand PAR, because it's so niche.
Shaanxi Baoji, there's a factory that makes car light lens accessories. Last year, they bought a batch of "transparent PAR sub-brands" cheaply, priced nearly 30% lower than the genuine ones. They produced a bright appearance, but after aluminum plating and plating, after two months of road testing in the car, the lens holders inside the lampshades started to yellow and crack locally under UV exposure, and a batch of lights were sent back for rework. The owner only realized later: what he bought wasn't a genuine sub-brand from a major brand, but a mixed generic material.
PAR (polyarylate) is niche, and so is the niche market. Today, let's break this down—what exactly is it, who supplies it, and how to choose sub-brands to avoid making a mistake. What is
PAR and who is supplying
PAR? The scientific name is polyarylate, a transparent, amorphous, highly heat-resistant super engineering plastic with a heat deformation temperature of 170 to 200 degrees, UV resistance and good light transmission. It is a specialized material for car headlight lenses, lamp holders, optical lenses, and high-temperature resistant transparent parts. It is different from PCT and PC; its value lies in the combination of "transparency, sun resistance, and heat resistance."
PAR is a typical niche category, with only a handful of leading foreign companies worldwide. Written by actual tier, no hard listing:
Unitika (Japan): U-Polymer is their brand, pioneering polyarylate industrialization in 1973, widely used in optics, automotive, and precision instruments;
Solvay (specialty polymers now under Syensqo, Belgium): Ardel series polyarylates, focusing on UV resistance, optics, and high-temperature performance;
Mitsubishi Engineering-Plastics (Japan): Supplies polyarylate grades, with presence in electronics, automotive, and aerospace sectors.
Niche categories are mainly from these three major foreign players; the rest are mostly modified factories and trade materials, not original raw pellets.
What is a sub-brand, and where are the boundaries
PAR The concept of sub-brand is consistent with other polyarylate family materials.
Definition: Within the same manufacturer and grade, the part of the factory inspection that does not fully meet the genuine brand standards. For the same batch of polymer material, if the product is certified and the official label is affixed, and some specs fluctuate slightly, it is the secondary brand.
Four main sources: start-and-stop head and tail materials, grade switching transition materials, batch residues with slight exceedances in certain areas due to process fluctuations in color/light transmission/melting index, and secondary line residues.
It is still original factory original polymer particles, with molecular structure identical to genuine brands. Boundary table:
| Type | Source | Quality | Typical use |
|---|
| Genuine brand | Original factory compliant batch | All indicators compliant, batch stable | Optical lens, car light highlighters |
| Subplate | Original factory batches not fully meeting standards | Some indicators slightly deviated, same base material | Lamp holder internal parts, non-external heat-resistant parts |
| Reused/sprue material | Processed scraps repelled and granulated | Already suffered once heat history | Low demand products |
| Regenerated material | Recycled plastic pelletizing | Fluctuates performance, yellows easily | Low-end products and fillers |
PAR The biggest pitfall is this: recycled and recycled materials have gone through several cycles of heat, but UV resistance and light penetration fail. Parts made from car headlights turn yellow after exposure to sunlight—this is exactly the pitfall that Baoji factory fell into.
Unizika U-Polymer: The pioneering brand
Unijika's U-Polymer is the ancestor of polyarylates. Transparent, highly heat-resistant, and weather-resistant, used long-term for lamp lens holders, reflective bowl peripherals, and transparent parts in precision instruments. It later launched the Unifyr series, which has higher heat resistance.
Its secondary brand floating items are usually light transmittance (haze) and hue. For non-high-gloss headlights, reflective brackets, and internal heat-resistant parts, these sub-brands are sufficient; But for lenses and exterior high-gloss parts that directly emit light, they must be genuine or carefully selected—don't gamble.
Applicable scenarios: headlight holders, optical components.
Solvay Ardel: UV resistance grade
Solvay Ardel series polyarylates, focusing on UV stability and optical performance, suitable for outdoor sun-exposed parts. Its secondary brand mostly fluctuates slightly in melt finger and hue, but its main UV resistance is generally still present.
For decorative frames, reflective parts, and outdoor optical parts with exposed car lights but not main lenses, the Ardel secondary brand is worth considering. Note that its packaging is divided into large and small packages; small quantities go small, large quantities go big.
Applicable scenarios: outdoor optical and car light decorative parts.
Mitsubishi Engineering Plastics: Stable supplementary grade
Mitsubishi Engineering Plastics supplies polyarylate grades, reliable for electronics and automotive applications. Their sub-brand has frequent fluctuations, relatively standardized channels, and batches aren't chaotic.
For domestic manufacturers, Mitsubishi's sub-brand is better suited for non-exterior heat-resistant structural parts and electronic peripheral parts, offering stable cost-performance. Together with Unijika and Solvay, it forms the three main foreign original manufacturers available in the niche PAR category.
Applicable scenarios: electronic heat-resistant parts, automotive structural parts.
Pitfalls avoided: What is the biggest concern for car lighting parts
PAR Three pitfalls for sub-brand lighting optical parts.
First, UV resistance is the most critical hurdle in this line. Any recycled material that has passed through heat history will turn yellow under direct sunlight. For headlight parts, you must use the original original sub-brand; don't gamble on "transparent recycled PAR" just because it's cheap.
2. Test light transmission and hue first. Secondary brands often have fog and yellowness; leave samples for lighting before aluminum coating; if yellowness exceeds the standard, do not use the main lens.
3. Identify the sources of the three original manufacturers. The biggest fear of niche materials is "putting a false head on a sheep's head while selling dog meat"; get original factory chips from U-Polymer, Ardel, or Mitsubishi whose grades can be verified.

Selection Mnemonic and a Baoji Case
Selection Mnemonic:
Idemitsu lenses and high-gloss exterior parts, make sure they are genuine brands;
Lamp holder, reflector bracket, internal parts; a secondary brand can save money;
Test for UV resistance, haze, and yellowing before plating;
Do not touch reclaimed or recycled materials after prolonged sun exposure;
Recognize the original pellets from U-Polymer, Ardel, and Mitsubishi.
The factory in Baoji that makes peripheral components for car lights, after suffering losses from using inferior materials, switched the lens housings to carefully selected sub-brands of Uniliga U-Polymer. They first carried out UV exposure tests and retained samples before coating and road testing. The batches that would yellow and crack were reduced from affecting entire headlights to almost zero, and the complete vehicles passed acceptance in one go. This illustrates the value of choosing the right original equipment sub-brand for niche materials—it’s not about being cheap, but about testing UV exposure for you before mass production. Ningbo Kolon New Materials Co., Ltd. has been blending imported PAR sub-brands for many years and has handled quite a few cases involving automotive optical components.
PAR secondary card bought the wrong model number, the car headlight lenses turned yellow after coating when exposed to sunlight, with a drop in light transmission, and an entire batch of headlight covers had to be reworked and repainted.
