EMS-GRIVORY Grivory:

发动机周边、长期高温、低吸水——上PA6T,别用PA66硬顶;
认证件、外观高光件——正牌,别省;
一般结构件、非外观件——可看副牌,先复测后量产;
系别后缀认死,66、DT、6I别混,耐水解的别用通用系列顶;
冷热冲击、热老化必做,别只看新料TDP;
吸潮照样预干燥,跨批次留样;

Saving 1,500 yuan on one ton of secondary-brand PA6T; a batch of engine intake connectors warped, leading to returns and a compensation claim of 60,000 yuan. Even an elementary school student can calculate this, but when placing the order, there are always people who only see the 1,500 yuan saved on that one ton.
PA6T material is notoriously expensive when it’s the genuine brand. It has a high melting point, good long-term temperature resistance, and a lower water absorption rate than regular nylon, which makes it indispensable around engines and electronic connectors. So, many manufacturers waver between 'the genuine brand is too expensive' and 'the knockoff might fail,' and in the end, they impulsively choose the cheaper one, then use a batch of returned goods to make up for the cost.
The problem isn't complicated—it's not that sub-cards can't be bought, it's that when many people buy sub-cards, they skip the necessary checks as well. This article will go through the PA6T account, from materials and manufacturers to avoiding pitfalls, and clarify everything at once.
PA6T: Semi-aromatic nylon for engine surroundings and lead-free welding
PA6T is called poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide), and its monomers are hexamethylenediamine and terephthalic acid. Pure PA6T has too high a melting point to process, so in industry it is usually copolymerized and modified with 66, 6I, DT, etc., which preserves heat resistance while making it moldable. After modification, the melting point is still around 300°C, with long-term heat resistance, low water absorption, and dimensional stability, making it a primary material for engine peripheral components and lead-free SMT connectors.
The major international manufacturers in this category are a bit more active than PA46 and PA9T. According to third-party market reports (2024–2026 scope), the main companies at the forefront are: Mitsui Chemicals from Japan, brand ARLEN®, the first to mass-produce modified PA6T, achieving a melting point of 320°C; Celanese (which acquired the former DuPont Transportation & Advanced Polymers business in 2022), brand Zytel® HTN, with the most comprehensive range of PA6T/66, PA6T/DT, and PA6T/6I systems; and Swiss EMS-GRIVORY, brand Grivory®, known for PA6T/6I and low water absorption. These three companies are names that cannot be bypassed in the PA6T circle.
Sub-brand common sense: the grade within the same brand that hasn't crossed the line
First, explain the concept correctly.
The secondary grade is neither a substandard product nor recycled material. It is a batch from the same manufacturer and the same grade where a few indicators didn't fully meet the standards during factory inspection. It goes through the same polymerization line, has the same molecular structure as the standard grade, and may have slightly different melt index, a bit more fiberglass content, or a half-degree difference in color, but it is still original material from the factory, with no secondary thermal processing.
Four sources: leftover materials from starting and stopping production, transition materials from grade switching, batches with minor fluctuations in specific indicators, and subsidiary line leftover materials. For the same grade, secondary grades are classified into selected secondary and ordinary secondary, with prices usually lower than the main grade.
| Type | Source | Quality | Typical uses |
|---|
| Genuine brand | Original factory standard batch | All indicators meet the standards, batch stability | High-requirement parts, certified parts |
| Side deck | Factory batch not fully up to standard | Individual indicators slightly deviate, but the base material is consistent with the genuine brand | Inner components, general structural parts |
| Recycled material / Sprue material | Processing scrap material into pellets | Has undergone one heat history | Low-demand products |
| Recycled material | Recycled Plastic Pelletizing | Performance fluctuates greatly | Low-end products, fillers |
Mitsui Chemicals ARLEN: The pioneer in mass-producing modified PA6T
Mitsui's ARLEN® is a pioneering product in the mass production of modified polyamide 6T. By adding a third component for copolymerization, it balances heat resistance and molding flowability, with a melting point of 320°C and fairly good flowability, especially suitable for SMT lead-free soldered electronic components and heat-resistant automotive parts. The E series is general-purpose with glass fiber reinforcement, the C series is low-warpage, the F series is halogen-free flame-retardant, and the H series is hydrolysis-resistant, with clear suffix distinctions.
Its secondary grades mostly appear in batches with slightly deviated fiberglass content or fluidity. For factories making general engine peripheral structural parts and non-high-gloss parts, selecting the secondary grade carefully still retains the heat resistance base. Packaging comes in both large and small sizes. Be careful not to confuse the suffix: the H series is hydrolysis-resistant, don’t use the E series to substitute for tasks involving soaking in water.
Celanese (formerly DuPont) Zytel HTN: the company with the widest system coverage
Zytel® HTN originally belonged to DuPont and was incorporated into Celanese in 2022, but the grade system has not changed. Its PA6T base materials are classified in detail: the 52 series is PA6T/66, the 51 series is PA6T/DT, and the 54 series is PA6T/6I. With glass fiber reinforcement, the heat deflection temperature can exceed 280°C, and the long-term heat resistance is 150–160°C. It is widely used in automotive engine components and high-voltage connectors.
Secondary grade materials often appear in batches with slightly deviating fiberglass content or color hue. They have a large circulation and high market recognition, and secondary grade sources are relatively easy to find. For factories with large usage and producing mature parts, the cost-performance ratio is good, but you still need to strictly identify the series and not use 52 series for 51 series applications.
EMS-GRIVORY Grivory: the carefully selected handle in the low water absorption range
Grivory® from Swiss EMS-GRIVORY is a well-established brand in semi-aromatic polyamides. Grivory HT is based on PPA, and the PA6T/6I system pays particular attention to low water absorption and dimensional stability. Its headquarters is in Domat/Ems, Switzerland, and it conducts its own polymerization, making it suitable for parts that require long-term dimensional accuracy.
Its secondary brand material comes from the same sources as other companies, with circulation not as large as the first two, but the stability is reliable. For engine component manufacturers who require precise sizes and are worried about moisture absorption and deformation, its secondary brand is an option worth exploring.
PA6T secondary brand, save on cost but not on validation
The most classic mistake with PA6T secondary brands is confusing the '1,500 saved' with the '60,000 lost'. First, identify the system and suffix; PA6T has several copolymer systems, and mixing them up is bound to cause problems. Second, engine components must undergo both hot-cold shock and thermal aging retests; don’t just look at the new material. Third, low water absorption is its selling point, but it still needs pre-drying to prevent moisture uptake. Fourth, secondary brands still require batch numbers and sample retention, and you need to monitor cross-batch consistency.
In plain terms, the secondary brand saves on the purchase price difference, but the money used for verification cannot be saved along with it.

PA6T secondary brands are matched to high-temperature conditions, batch cracking as soon as they float
Mnemonic:
Engine peripheral, long-term high temperature, low water absorption—install PA6T, don't use PA66 hard tops;
Certified parts, appearance high-gloss parts—genuine brand, don't skimp;
General structural parts, non-appearance parts—check the secondary brand, retest before mass production;
Stick to the suffix of the series, don't mix 66, DT, or 6I, don't use generic series for hydrolysis-resistant products;
Cold and heat shock and thermal aging are a must, don't just look at new material TDP;
Pre-drying even after moisture absorption, retain samples across batches;
Original factory packaging, batch number required, small packaging for sample making, large packaging for mass production.
Mianyang, a client who makes car engine peripheral intake joints previously used low-priced secondary brands to cut costs, and installed them without thermal shock testing. As a result, when the cabin temperature rose in summer, the joints cracked and leaked, and a batch of returns plus claims cost over 60,000 yuan—enough to buy ten tons of genuine parts. Later, they switched to imported PA6T secondary brands, re-checked by series type, and redone thermal shock and aging processes. The cracking problem didn't happen again, and the cost per unit was still lower than the genuine part. This is the truth of the cost account—you save on what needs inspection, and the amount saved will eventually be compensated with interest. Ningbo Kelong New Materials Co., Ltd. has been handling imported PA6T secondary brands for years, handling dozens of similar cases a year. Basically, they help you detect the 'cracking at high temperatures' before mass production.
Those who make engine parts, intake joints, or heat-resistant structural parts—who hasn't been tricked by PA6T? Is it because the system is mistaken and the machine becomes brittle? Or is it that they skipped verification and lost a batch of goods? Or did the batch float and all the dimensions go off?
