很多人以为买ETFE,买的就是那层透光的膜。真相是——你下单的时候,真正在买的是手里那张透光率和耐候性的化验单。同样挂着“ETFE副牌”,有人铺在博览馆顶上当门面,十年不黄;有人贴在自家车棚上,两年就发雾开裂。差在哪?差在你知不知道这副牌离正牌差的是哪一项,更差在哪一档应用上。ETFE正牌贵、回料不敢用,副牌这一关,懂的人拿它省钱,不懂的人拿它返工。
不是所有塑料,都敢铺在屋顶上
ETFE是乙烯-四氟乙烯共聚物,半透明、自清洁、耐候、轻质,还能做成充气的膜单元。水立方那种气枕式立面,用的就是它——靠它透光、自重轻、酸雨晒几十年不老化。它耐折、耐候、化学惰性好,做成薄膜、做成粒料挤出型材都行。可它也是氟塑料里出了名的娇贵:透光率、拉伸强度、雾度,任何一项飘了,铺上去就是整块立面的事。
副牌从哪来,和回料怎么分
ETFE副牌,本质和其他氟塑料一样:同一厂家、同一牌号的聚合粒子里,出厂检验没完全踩中正牌指标的那一档。来源还是那四类——开停车头尾料、换牌号过渡料、工艺波动导致个别指标小幅超标的批次、副线尾料。分子结构没变,原生粒子没掺假,只是透光、雾度、熔指在化验单上偏了一格。这跟边角料再造的回料、和废膜回收的再生料,完全是两码事:

全球做ETFE的,数来数去就这几家
ETFE树脂是高度集中的生意。综合几份市场报告,按份额口径,全球前五大厂商——科慕Chemours(美国,Tefzel)、大金Daikin(日本,Neoflon ETFE)、旭硝子AGC(日本,Fluon ETFE)、索尔维、3M——合计占去全球约六成半到七成。其中科慕份额居前,AGC在薄膜、尤其建筑膜这块走得极深,大金在树脂和汽车线缆线上量大。需要说明的是,树脂口径和膜口径排名会有出入,数据分歧处就按梯队摆,不硬排座次。
科慕:Tefzel这条树脂线
科慕的Tefzel,是ETFE里老牌的粒料体系,耐辐射、耐化学、电气性能稳。它的副牌,常见偏差在熔指和颜色上,对做电线被覆、做设备内衬、做一般工业型材的厂来说,这种偏差不影响核心性能。用它做建筑内层膜、做非可视面的夹芯层,性价比很扎实;但做正面景观立面、要做到均匀透光的,还是正牌更稳。
大金:Neoflon的膜与料
大金的Neoflon ETFE,在膜材和多层共挤上口碑很硬。它的副牌批次,多落在薄膜厚度公差、表面光泽这一类指标上。做车棚雨棚、做温室覆盖、做广告灯箱外罩的厂,拿这种副牌下料,成本下来一截,肉眼几乎看不出差别。大包装小包装都齐,适合不同规模的挤出和吸塑件厂。
旭硝子AGC:建筑膜的老玩家
AGC(旭硝子)在ETFE薄膜、尤其大跨度建筑气枕这块积累极深,水立方这类项目背后都有它的身影。它的副牌量不算大,往往是某一批透光率、某一批耐候等级差了毫厘。拿这种料做背衬膜、做室内隔断、做非承重覆盖,等于用副牌的价买了正牌的底子。
上屋顶之前,先想清楚这三件事
避坑要点:一是分内外,正面立面、要均匀透光的别碰副牌,背衬、内层、非可视面再考虑;二是看透光率和拉伸强度这两项化验单,雾度差一点没事,强度掉档就会塌;三是同一工程别混不同批次,色差和雾度拼缝在阳光下很显眼。包装照旧,认批次、认化验单,别认袋子上印的字。

Many people think that when they buy ETFE, they are buying that layer of translucent film. The truth is—when you place the order, what you are actually buying is the test report of light transmittance and weather resistance that comes with it. Even for those labeled as 'ETFE sub-brands', some are laid on the top of exhibition halls as a showcase and don’t yellow for ten years; others are applied to private carports and become foggy and crack within two years. What's the difference? The difference lies in whether you know which aspect of the sub-brand falls short of the genuine brand, and in which application it falls short even more. Genuine ETFE is expensive and doesn’t dare to use recycled material; for the sub-brand, those who understand it use it to save money, while those who don’t will end up doing rework.
Not all plastics are safe to be laid on rooftops
ETFE is an ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer. It is semi-transparent, self-cleaning, weather-resistant, lightweight, and can also be made into inflatable membrane units. The cushion-like façade of the Water Cube uses it — it allows light to pass through, is lightweight, and withstands acid rain for decades without aging. It is resistant to bending, weather, and chemically inert, making it suitable for films or pellet-based extrusions. However, it is also famously delicate among fluoroplastics: if any property such as light transmittance, tensile strength, or haze deviates, installing it means redoing the entire façade panel.
Where does the by-product come from, and how is it separated from the return material?
ETFE secondary brand, in essence, is the same as other fluoroplastics: within the polymer particles of the same manufacturer and same grade, those that did not fully meet the primary brand index during factory inspection fall into this category. The sources are still those four types—offcuts from start-up and shutdown, transitional material when changing grades, batches with slight deviations in certain indicators due to process fluctuations, and tail materials from secondary lines. The molecular structure hasn't changed, and the virgin particles are not adulterated; it's just that the light transmittance, haze, and melt index are a notch off on the test report. This is entirely different from reclaimed material made from scrap or recycled material from waste film.

When it comes to making ETFE globally, there are only a few companies.
ETFE resin is a highly concentrated business. According to several market reports, based on market share, the top five global manufacturers—Chemours (USA, Tefzel), Daikin (Japan, Neoflon ETFE), AGC (Japan, Fluon ETFE), Solvay, and 3M—together account for about 65% to 70% of the global market. Among them, Chemours holds the leading share, AGC has a strong presence in films, especially architectural films, and Daikin has large volumes in resins and automotive wiring. It should be noted that rankings differ depending on whether considering resin or film market share; in cases of data discrepancy, companies are listed by tiers rather than being strictly ranked.
Chemours: Tefzel this resin line
Chemours' Tefzel is a long-established resin system within ETFE, resistant to radiation and chemicals, with stable electrical properties. Its off-brand version commonly has slight variations in melt index and color, which do not affect core performance for factories making wire coatings, equipment liners, or general industrial profiles. Using it for building inner layer films or non-visible sandwich layers offers a very solid cost-performance ratio; however, for front-facing architectural facades where uniform translucency is required, the original brand is still more reliable.
Daikin: Neoflon's Films and Materials
Daikin's Neoflon ETFE has a strong reputation in film materials and multi-layer co-extrusion. Its secondary brand batches mostly vary in indicators like film thickness tolerance and surface gloss. Manufacturers making carports, canopies, greenhouse covers, or advertising lightbox covers can use this secondary brand for cutting materials, significantly reducing costs, with almost no visible difference to the naked eye. Both large and small packaging are available, suitable for extrusion and thermoforming factories of different scales.
Asahi Glass AGC: An Old Player in Architectural Films
AGC (Asahi Glass) has deep expertise in ETFE films, especially in large-span architectural cushions, with projects like the Water Cube bearing its mark. Its secondary brand is not produced in large quantities and usually just falls short by tiny margins in light transmittance or weather resistance. Using this material for backing membranes, indoor partitions, or non-structural coverings is like buying the foundation of the main brand at the price of the secondary brand.
Before going on the roof, first think through these three things
Key points to avoid pitfalls: First, differentiate between exterior and interior parts. For the main façade that needs even light transmission, avoid using secondary brands; consider them only for backing, inner layers, or non-visible surfaces. Second, check the test reports for light transmittance and tensile strength—slight haze is okay, but if the strength drops a grade, it will sag. Third, do not mix different batches in the same project, as color differences and haze variations at joints are very noticeable under sunlight. Packaging remains the same; rely on batch numbers and test reports, not the text printed on the bags.

Previously, they installed membranes for a logistics park carport and, to save money, bought a batch of ETFE membrane materials of unknown origin. A year after installation, the sun-facing surfaces were completely fogged and the edges were blistering.
