Old Zhu is doing toothbrush handles overmolding in Dongguan. The two trays of TPE pellets in the warehouse have been sitting on trays for almost half a year. An export customer changed the color scheme, and the inventory suddenly increased by five or six tons. The bag surface was already absorbed moisture, the pellet color had darkened, and the warehouse staff checked the ledger to find the material was custom-made to 50A hardness, with limited versatility and hard to resell. Old Zhu squatted at the workshop door to do the accounts: TPE is like gummy—after sitting for a while, the surface turns oily and white, and once wrapped on the PP handle, it falls off easily.
Stagnant material isn't an asset, it's a liability lying on the books.
TPE this stuff, the boss dealing with glue, toys, cables, and daily necessities deals with it every day. It's a thermoplastic elastomer, with Shore hardness ranging from 30A to 90A, and the formulation system is diverse. The problem is it's afraid of moisture absorption and precipitation. Once the packaging breaks, the plasticizer slowly moves to the surface, making the overmold sticky; If the hardness is wrong, the customer's mold can't hold it. What's even more troublesome is that TPE is basically a custom-made material. Your batch is 50A black, while other factories require 70A transparent, which is basically useless. Dealers collect materials regardless of hardness or color, pressing each ton like a ton. TPE sits like fermented steamed buns—it still smells like flour, but doesn't feel chewy when pinched.
The essence of recycling isn't selling scrap, but turning dead money into living money.
Let me tell a real story. A boss called in a wholesaler, who picked up a tablet of TPE and rubbed it, said it was oily or not right, and immediately charged at floor price. The wholesaler's calculations were even more precise than your accountant's—he took the goods back, reclassified them by hardness and color, mixed the good grains into low-end daily necessities, sold the good grains at local stalls, and the price difference went straight to his pocket. Think about it, he's not buying your scrap, he's using your custom materials to fill his main road. Some vendors are even more ruthless, not even testing hardness, mixing 50A and 80A into a truckload and then telling the next buyer it's the wholesale price.
The wholesaler isn't helping you deal with scrap; they're using your good materials to make up for their subpar goods.
Kelong New Materials is taking the path of terminal digestion. We have long-term downstream clients for overmolding, toys, cables, and daily necessities. We don't worry about TPE as a custom material—if it matches hardness and color, we can ship directly; If not, we can incorporate it into our own modified formula system and absorb it, regardless of hardness or color. Pricing is based on Shore hardness, tensile strength, and grading for sedimentation, with one price per grade, clearly stated on the recycling form. With our own production capacity and customer backing, our quotes are stable and don't fluctuate wildly with market trends.
Good material isn't afraid of not being picked up; what's worrisome is selling good material as scrap.
On the day of the appraisal, our technician brought a Shaw hardness tester, pinched it on site, and checked the hardness to check if there was oil, recording both color and hardness. You are present and weigh the materials; the tare weight, gross weight, and net weight all match the orders. Since there are many TPE custom materials, we will ask clearly what products you originally made for this batch to better satisfy downstream customers.
A different approach is more cost-effective—recyclable material for new material. Five steps of the process: first submit materials, take photos, report grade number or hardness, tonnage, and city; We will come to the site for grading and evaluation, and after testing, quote on the spot; On-site weighing and receiving the goods; The recovery payment will be directly deducted from your purchase price for new materials from Cologne; Final settlement and invoice issuance. A long-term customer specializing in automotive seals had about 7 tons of TPE obsolete material stored in the warehouse, which was offset by grading for nearly half of the new material payment, saving about 20,000 yuan in cash flow. The newly brought back was the full range of QUANICE elastomers, which were directly renewed on the production line.
To put it simply, scrap isn't something you can't accept; it depends on how you handle it.
As for specific grades, we regularly recycle mainstream TPE grades such as Keteng G series, Taipol and T-blend, Baling YH series, Dawnprene, and Wanhua Wanthane TPE; Other customized grades are subject to physical appraisal. Recyclable forms include obsolete original packaging material (whole or bulk packs), glue nozzle material, extrusion gate material, pelletizer head material, scrap parts, and inventory scrap material. Pellets that release oil should be bagged separately, not mixed with new pellets.
To be honest, there are lots of TPE custom materials. Your batch of hardness and color can't be used by other factories—it's just dead material sitting there. But for modification factories, as long as the physical properties match, the colors can still be matched. The key is to find someone willing to grade by physical properties, not just a fixed price for regular goods.
Just a few words at the last minute to avoid pitfalls. Is recycling just selling cheap? The truth is selling by hardness and grade; good materials can be sold at good prices. No one wants custom materials? The truth is finding the right end customers—modification factories and daily necessities factories are all looking for suppliers. Whoever offers the highest price sells to whom? The truth is that when you get it, you bargain, weigh it down, and delay payment—the price is even worse than the three companies
