Old Zhu opened a film blowing factory in Taizhou. Last year, responding to the "plastic ban," he had just switched the production line from PE film to biodegradable shopping bags. As soon as the new material ran smoothly, the customer changed the weight and thickness again. The batch of BASF ecoflex F, ecoflex BMB, and several bags of Bluetrak Yinchuang in the warehouse slept on the pallet for nearly half a year. Because of the moisture from the return of the southern sky, the material clumped together, and the money still hung with the words "biodegradable material" on the ledger—in other words, dead money lying on the account.
Policy-driven production line switching, trial production materials under pressure—this is a hurdle boss currently working in biodegradable products cannot avoid.
Obsolete material is not an asset, but a liability lying on the books.
PBAT this substance, scientifically called butylene adipate terephthalate, is naturally eaten by microorganisms. But this "innate degradability" is a double-edged sword—it has a low melting point and absorbs moisture. When warehouse humidity rises, the surface of the pellets first hydrolyzes and then self-bonds into clumps, just like steamed buns showing moisture—they quietly "degrade" on their own as they sit for you. What's even more troublesome is that ecoflex F, BMB, and Origo-Bi grades have different uses and formulations. If you mix them, the resulting bag won't be strong enough. If you don't understand grading, mixing trial production edges with the original material will cause the seller to pay you the standard price, selling the good material at a junk price. Over time, the label wears off, and you can't even see the production date.
Biodegradable materials aren't left waiting for prices to rise, but to quietly melt away on their own.
Here's a true story: Old Zhu once found a scrap goods dealer who drove a small truck over, circled the warehouse twice, and immediately said, "Your material is clumped and sticky, probably almost degraded. I'll pay you the standard price." Old Zhu thought he'd quickly make room and agreed. But after weighing, the other party started picking bags again—one was dirty, that had a smudged label, and they would cut a few hundred more per ton. Old Zhu felt frustrated, but the goods were loaded, what else could he do?
The wholesaler's calculations were even more precise than your accountant's—picking out good materials and charging them as defective products, returning bad goods by shipping fees. Honestly, they're not making money from scrap, but money from people who don't know the trade.
Vendors' quotes are like weather forecasts—just check them before you leave, don't take them seriously.
Cologne New Materials does PBAT recycling by following a terminal digestion route, not reselling to make price differences. Mainstream brands like ecoflex F, ecoflex BMB, Origo-Bi, Mater-Bi, Greentrak are still used by downstream biodegradable bags and agricultural film factories. After grading and picking them up, they are directly taken away without inventory pressure. We don't pick out trial production leftovers, batches of miscellaneous materials, or slightly self-adhesive materials—they go into Cologne's own modified formula and digest them, just like mixing Chinese medicine. One flavor has a slightly more fluid flow, so another ingredient is added.
Pricing isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. Grades by grade, melting index, appearance, moisture absorption and degradability—original new material gets a good price, slightly hydrolyzed is charged as modified, and the price difference is displayed on the table. Plus, with our own production capacity and long-term customers as a backup, our quotes don't fluctuate wildly. When prices go up, they chase after you; when prices drop, we ignore their calls. We still get what we owe.
Good materials aren't afraid of not having buyers; what's scary is selling good materials as scrap.
Five-step cooperation process: material reporting, grading and evaluation, on-site pickup, deducting payment, settlement and invoicing. Old Zhu's batch of materials went like this—he took a few photos and sent them with the grade and about eight tons. After we appraised and quoted a price, we agreed to come and weigh the goods at home. After the goods were brought back, the recycling payments were directly offset by his purchase of KONICE modified plastics next month, nearly half. It means the warehouse was cleared, the cash was returned, and the new materials arrived at the factory. After the trip, he told me he should have handled it two years earlier.
The essence of recycling is not selling scrap, but turning dead money into living money.
Recyclable PBAT covers PBAT resins from major domestic manufacturers such as BASF ecoflex F, ecoflex BMB, Italy's Novamont Origo-Bi and Mater-Bi, Xinjiang Lanshan Tunhe Greentrak, Kingfa Technology, Wanhua Chemical, and other mainstream domestic manufacturers. Other grades are based on physical appraisal. In terms of form, we collect: stagnant original packaging (whole bags or loose bags are fine), trial production leftovers, film blowing edges, bag sprue nozzles, self-adhesive lump materials, and inventory scraps. Biodegradable materials have short shelf lives, and the longer they delay, the less valuable they become. If you find backlog, report it early.
Three Common Misconceptions, Here's a Reminder—
"Is recycling just selling cheap?" "The truth is that good materials can be sold at good prices, and mixed materials get underpriced."
"Is biodegradable material really safe to use? "The truth is, it's naturally destined to degrade; after absorbing moisture and sticking itself, its strength drops faster."
"Who offers the highest price and sells to whom?" "The truth is, when you get the price, you bargain, weigh, or delay payments. Comparing prices to the three companies actually results in losses."
