Lao Lin opened a flexible packaging film factory in Qingpu, Shanghai, making high-toughness packaging films for food factories. Last month, the client switched the packaging film from MVLDPE back to regular LLDPE. The few bags of Exceed 1018 and two bags of Affinity 2045G in the warehouse have been lying on the tray for almost a year. The lettering on the bags is worn out, the labels are still from last year, and the warehouse manager said, "If this material isn't moved soon, it's almost turning into an antique."
High-toughness film material is not cheap; if it stays in the warehouse for a day, it becomes a daily capital cost.
Stagnant material is not inventory, but a liability lying in the warehouse.
MVLDPE this stuff, metallocene ultra-low-density polyethylene, is basically used for high-end flexible packaging films—thin and tough, with high tensile strength, making it especially popular for food packaging films. What makes it so delicate? It's afraid of moisture, mixing, and high temperatures. It's the same as cling film that sticks to your hands after being stored for a long time—the material itself isn't spoiled, but if it absorbs moisture, it easily forms crystalline spots and holes when blown out. What's even more troublesome is that MVLDPE is more expensive in the market, with smaller quantities than LLDPE. When sellers hear it's metallocene, they frown first.
The common problem with high-end materials is—everyone is afraid to buy and wants to lower prices. What's even more troublesome is that when MVLDPE is placed next to ordinary LLDPE, you can't tell by eye alone; you have to measure melt index and density.
Let me tell a true story: Lao Lin had previously contacted two scrap collectors. The first one was MVLDPE and immediately said, "This metallocene material is too niche, we can't do it." The second one came, but after circling the warehouse, he said, "Your grade is unclear, so I can only calculate it as a wholesale product." Old Lin knew in his heart that his bags of Exceed 1018 were genuine high-toughness film grades, but since the other party didn't understand, he had no choice.
When a wholesaler saw high-end niche materials, their first thought wasn't "How much is this material worth?" but "How much can I bet on?" He didn't understand the difference between Molotene and ordinary LLDPE, yet he dared to use the word "niche" to pressure you to the core.
To put it bluntly, what they earn isn't the price difference of the material, but the price difference you can't find for the next supplier.
Cologne New Materials focuses on MVLDPE recycling and end-user absorption. High-toughness film-grade materials like Exceed 1018, Exceed XP 6056ML, and Enable have been used by downstream flexible packaging film factories. After grading and grading, they are directly taken away. For film-grade materials like Affinity 2045G, we also accept niche grades and enter our own modified granulation formula for digestion, regardless of batch or color. It's similar to glue: high viscosity sticks to large items, weak viscosity sticks to small items, and no material is wasted.
Pricing is based on melt index, tensile strength, and appearance grading. Clean materials get good prices, and slightly degraded materials are treated as modified materials. With our own production capacity and long-term customers as a backup, our quotes are stable—no one raises prices just because you use high-end materials.
High-end material isn't unwanted by anyone; it's that you haven't found the right people who truly use it.
The five-step cooperation process: material submission, graded evaluation, on-site pickup, payment deduction, settlement and invoice. That's how Old Lin handled the batch—he took photos and sent them to bid Exceed 1018 about four tons and Affinity 2045G for two tons. We appraised and quoted the price, then scheduled a time for on-site weighing. The recycling payment was directly offset by his purchase of KONICE modified plastics next month, offsetting nearly 20,000 yuan. After clearing out a row from the warehouse, Old Lin said, "If I'd known, I should've handled it the year before last, no need to hold it for so long."
Recycling isn't about selling cheaply; it's about converting the money held in your position into new materials that can be turned.
Currently, the MVLDPE grades that can be recycled include ExxonMobil Exceed 1018, Exceed XP 6056ML, Enable, Dow Affinity 2045G, and other mainstream numbers; Other grades like Priman SP2020, Lanzhou Petrochemical MPE1018, LG/SK, etc., are subject to physical appraisal. In terms of form, we collect: stagnant original packaging, high laminated edges, blown film sprue, machine head material, waste film roll, and inventory scrap. Natural color and black materials are packed separately, with better grading prices.
Three common misconceptions, here is a reminder—
"Metallocene material is niche and no one buys it?" "The truth is, if you find the right terminal, high-end film-grade materials like Exceed can still sell quickly."
"Waiting for customers to come back?" "The truth is that MVLDPE absorbs moisture and degrades, so customers can't wait, and the residual value drops first."
"Whoever sells at the highest price?" "The truth is, people quote high prices over the phone and bargain on the spot, so comparing prices with three companies actually results in losses."
