Old Feng makes transparent cast films and toughening compatibles in Yuyao, Ningbo, with extruders coming and going in EMMA year-round in and out of the workshop. Last month, a high-transparency film project changed its raw material system, and two trays of EMMA raw material in the warehouse suddenly became unusable.
EMMA this material is ethylene methyl methacrylate copolymer, used for high-transparency cast film and toughening compatibilizer—transparent, soft, and low-temperature resistant. But its processing temperature is not high, so the leftover material absorbs moisture and oxidizes for a long time, losing its transparency and toughness.
Old Feng's warehouse manager moved the two supports inward, with the ledger marked "Pending Processing." At the end of the workshop, daily cut EMMA sprue material and membrane edge scraps are piled up in the corners, mixed with EVA.
EMMA's pain point is: it looks like EVA, transparent toughening has a high premium, and if you mix it in, it loses value.
Stagnant material isn't an asset, it's a liability lying on the books.
EMMA plainly, it's modified polyethylene, with methyl methacrylate added, specialized for high-transparency casting film, cold resistance toughening, and compatibilizer. Because it's transparent and soft polyolefin, the unit price isn't low, and once you keep it in storage, it takes up a lot of money.
EMMA after sitting for a while, its transparency and toughness drop, just like cling film fogging and brittle after prolonged storage—it still looks like a rolled film, tears after a couple of pulls, and doesn't shine even under light. The original packaging absorbs moisture and oxidizes when opened, then reheated to make transparent film. When the haze increases, the customer returns it immediately.
The workshop is more practical about mixing materials. EMMA and EVA sprue material look similar, so workers just pour it into one bag for convenience. Once mixed, the premium for EMMA's transparent toughening material is wasted, and it can only be sold as regular EVA.
The high price of transparent soft material lies in the words "transparent" and "soft"; once mixed in, it's worthless.
Old Feng once contacted the buyer. The dealer picked up the material pellets and said, "Isn't this EVA? At EVA price." Old Feng shook his head on the spot—this was EMMA, a high-transparency film product, and the price was lower than EVA. But the dealer wouldn't listen; he didn't recognize EMMA.
To put it bluntly, wholesalers instinctively lean toward EVA for materials that "look like EVA." It's not that they don't know about EMMA, but they recognize that EMMA has no benefits—if they accept it, they have to offer you a good price; if they don't, they can pressure you.
Some traders think that "plastics are divided into transparent and opaque." You talk about transparent toughening with them, and they talk about wholesale goods.
Cologne New Materials does EMMA recycling and knows exactly how transparent and soft materials are. EMMA is a cast film and cold-resistant toughening material, and downstream film and modification factories are constantly searching for matching materials. We have downstream and modified formulas in the right market, so we can buy them and make a move.
If you encounter discoloration, increased haze, or mixed with EVA, don't worry—go into Cologne's own modified formula for grading and digestion, no grade or batch selection. EMMA belongs to EMMA, EVA to EVA, graded separately.
Pricing is based on ester content, melting index, and transparency, with clear pricing. Transparent grade is just transparent grade, no one-size-fits-all .
Own production capacity plus downstream customers as a backup, stable quotation, not fluctuating with market trends.
The essence of recycling is not selling scrap, but turning dead money into living money.
Cooperative with five steps of "replacing recycled materials with new materials": material reporting→ grading evaluation→ on-site pickup→ deduction of payment→ settlement and invoicing. The recycled amount is directly used for new material payments in Cologne, and the EMMA direction corresponds to the KONICE modified plastic series.
Tell a true story. Last year, a factory in Ningbo that made transparent cast film had about 4 tons of original EMMA mixed with a bunch of EVA sprue material, and the raw material system was changed so it wouldn't be needed. On our trip, they first picked out the EMMA mixed in EVA and graded it; those with enough transparency went through transparent film modification, and the recycled batch was directly offset against the next batch of KONICE payments, about half offset. The row of mixing bags in the workshop was cleared out, and the warehouse was back in use.
Good material isn't afraid of not being picked up; the worry is selling good material as waste.
EMMA we collect year-round, accepting mainstream grades such as high-transparency cast film grade, cold resistance toughening grade, and compatibilizer grade. Specific grades are subject to physical appraisal; we do not casually state numbers.
Recyclable forms: stagnant original packaging, sprue gate material, cast film scraps, defective scrap parts, and inventory scraps. Special reminder—EMMA sprue material must be separately packaged with EVA; mixing with transparent toughening premiums will disappear.
- "Isn't EMMA just EVA?" The truth is EMMA follows a transparent soft main chain, casting film has a high premium, and mixing and selling it is selling cheaply.
- "Waiting for the project to restart?" The truth is that transparent material gets foggier the more you store it, and optical performance is already worn out.
- "Who bids the highest price and sells to whom?" The truth is, EMMA is treated like EVA, and what you get is the EVA price.
Fully certified and properly processed, with weighbridge lists, recycling slips, and flow certificates corresponding, can pass environmental audits and ISO audits, and does not end up with illegal small workshops
