CAP就是醋酸丙酸纤维素,做眼镜框、牙刷柄、玩具、工具柄这些讲究手感和上漆性的件。它吸潮性强,跟海绵吸水一样,袋子一开水分就往里钻。回炉前不烘透,做牙刷柄、眼镜框这种小件,表面就出银丝、没光泽。
更现实的是它小众。CAP和CA、CAB三兄弟摆在仓库,工人根本分不清,混着装袋。一混,眼镜框厂和改性厂都不敢收,怕物性串了。单价上,CAP不便宜,几箱压着占的钱不少。
车间里每天切的水口料,跟CA、CAB的水口料堆一块儿,越堆越高,越堆越乱。
小众料混着堆,就好比把茅台和散装酒装一个瓶里,喝的人不敢喝,收的人不敢收。

Last month, a toothbrush handle project changed materials temporarily. The warehouse had two boxes of original CAP materials, Eastman Tenite, CAP-482-0.5, and 383-11, but suddenly no one used them.
CAP this material for glasses frames, toothbrush handles, toys, tool handles, and pharmaceutical coatings, it feels good and the surface is good to paint. But it has the same temper as CA and CAB — moisture absorption. After being opened and stored for a long time, the pellets darken and soften, and when reforged for high-precision parts, problems often arise.

CAP's awkward part is: it looks like CA and CAB, but the circle is small, and when mixed together, no one can tell the difference.
Stagnant material isn't an asset, it's a liability lying on the books.
CAP is cellulose acetate propionate, used for glasses frames, toothbrush handles, toys, tool handles—pieces that require a feel and paint quality. It's highly moisture-absorbing, like a sponge absorbing water—once the bag is opened, moisture seeps in. If it's not thoroughly baked before reheating, making small items like toothbrush handles or frames will show silver threads and lose its shine.
More realistically, it's niche. CAP, CA, and CAB are stored in the warehouse, and workers can't tell them apart, mixing them and packing them together. Once mixed, neither the glasses frame factory nor the modification factory dares to buy them, afraid of mixing up the material. In terms of unit price, CAP isn't cheap; a few boxes of sprue material take up a lot of money.
The sprue material cut daily in the workshop is piled up together with the CA and CAB sprue material, piling up higher and messier.
Mixing niche materials is like putting Moutai and bulk liquor in one bottle—people who drink it don't dare to drink, and those who buy it don't dare to buy.
Old Zhu once contacted the material collector. When the dealer saw the material grains, he said, "Isn't this just CA? Unified price," completely ignoring whether it's CAP or CAB. Old Zhu was anxious—he knew there was a price difference here, but he couldn't argue with them.
To put it bluntly, the wholesaler's attitude toward these three brothers was, "Anyway, it's all cellulose acetate, just lower your price." It's not that he can't tell the difference, he just can't be bothered to tell them apart; once he does, it's harder to lower the price.
Some vendors have the same understanding of niche ingredients as naughty kids who can't tell the three brothers apart—they can name one name, and the rest just stick to that name.

Tell a true story. Last year, a factory in Ningbo that made toothbrush handles had about two or three tons of CAP raw material mixed with CA and CAB sprue materials. The customer changed the material and the order was withdrawn. On our trip, we first helped separate and grade the three brothers: the non-moisture-resistant handle material was modified, the mildly moisture-absorbing material was dried and downgraded, and the recycling amount was directly deducted from the next batch of KONICE goods. The warehouse mixed material was cleared out, and the new material had a place to store it.
Good material isn't afraid of not having no buyers; the fear is selling good material as waste.
